“Just perfect”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 11, 2010

I actually tried to change our choice of hotel because of all the bad reviews on here - I am so glad we didn't! The service was excellent, the room was perfect with all the amenities you could need. There was absolutely NO NOISE whatsoever!! Perfect night's sleep on all 11 nights. The loft room made it so spacious for the four of us. The ski valet service is the best I have ever had - so obliging. The position could not be better for access to the lifts and to the shops - there is a supermarket right opposite. The pool, jacuzzi and sauna are super additions to the accommodation. As my wife said, "we could not have chosen a better place to stay in Whistler".

This hotel has a great location, only a short walk from the lifts. The rooms are good but housekeeing left a bit to be desired. They only have to make the bed, empty the bins and change the towels, but to be quite honest a five year old could have made a better job of making the bed. I felt they were short staffed and run off their feet as they were sometimes coming to do the room at 4/5:00 p.m.

The reception staff were not warm and welcoming especially Shelli, if you get her, forget it. The most sullen and rude person I have ever met. If you get Danielle, you are on to a good thing, always helpful and smiling even under adversity.

The noise level if you have a room facing the square goes on from 10:30 until 3:00 a.m. so try and book one of the quiet rooms. If you are booking through the UK travel companies, you will not get this option, so beware. The drug store is next door, go purchase some good earplugs and get to bed before the noise starts or you will never get to sleep. The other alternative is to go out and join the crowd until 3:00.

We have stayed in lots of lively resorts in Europe who manage to keep the noise contained and still allow people to have a good time, but Whistler doesn't seem to have grasped this concept.

I would recommend this hotel for its location but that is all,

Blackcomb lodge is in a great location in Whistler village, but there are loads of other places nearly as well located that are just nicer. For the price i paid (more than $350/night for 2 people in one King bed) I would expect more. plain and simple. It was a terrible value for the money; if it were about half that, i might look the other way about some of the issues (the shower, dusty bed, and total lack of service).

I had the worst daily showers there of anywhere I've been. The water didn't even have enough pressure to make it out of the showerhead--it just trickled down. After a long day of snowboarding, I want a nice shower, not to have to huddle under a tiny stream of water. I called the front desk about this 2x and both times they said they'd send someone to look at it, but "we're pretty 'low flow' all over the property, so...". Nobody ever came.

If you have allergies at all, I'd avoid this property as it is incredibly dusty.

We stayed on the "Village Stroll" side of the hotel, which was a bit noisy, but that's the tradeoff for being in a central location in the village. I had no real issue with the noise if the rest of the property was better maintained.

Okay I read these reviews prior too heading up to whistler and was a bit worried. But I will be honest with you the renovation, the proximity and the service were nothing short of extraordinary. It was loud at night but there are about 10 other hotels located around this area and part of the lifestyle in whistler is exactly the carefree, live large atmosphere that you get to see from your private patio. I think if you are going for a retreat then you should look at the fairmont, four seasons, pan pacific-- they are very close to the slopes but not so close to having a beer, coffee or late night snack.
The room was beautiful, clean and current in features. The front desk was helpful in giving us local pubs, clubs, places showing the UFC and most of all friendly

I feel bad for others who did not enjoy themselves because Whistler is an amazing place and we go several times a year and this hotel is going to be one of our repeats in the future.

Good location, clean enough rooms, air conditioner worked but shut off after 5 minutes.
Had to keep getting up during the night to turn it back on. We were in room 132 and it was so excessively noisy till 4am!!!!! Doors slamming in the hallways and loud drunks, right out front of our balcony there was yelling going on all night, there's a bar at the end of the lodge so all the loudmouths came out of there!!! Our bathroom sink was clogged so it took forever for the toothpaste spit to drain, YUCK!!! Went to La Brasserie for breakfast, it took twenty minutes for the waitress to clear off the table and take the order, food was not very good. Was really disappoint in Ric`s Mix Grill (fancy restaurant downstairs) My steak mooed, I asked for it medium, the twice baked potatoe had raw bacon in it, and the ``oscar`` part of it consisted of two scallops, two shrimps and cold bernaise sauce, sent that back for heating twice, the waitress proceeded to tell me the cook said bernaise sauce is supposed to be served chilled!!!! Yeah right, in Alaska maybe!! Anyways, the service in Whistler better improve before the 2010 Olympics or it`s going to reflect very badly on the resort and hopefully not on our province in general.....

We stayed at Blackcomb for a few nights as part of a package deal.
Pros
Beds were comfy
Great central location
Clean and tidy

Cons
The room stated it could sleep six but we were quite cramped with four adults and wondered where we could have put the coffee table if we had needed to use the sofa bed.
It was VERY VERY noisy. Im a very deep sleeper(i work shift work and can sleep through anything) and even i was waking up several times during the night with people coming in late at night and then getting up very early for skiing. The noise reminded me a bit of staying in a backpackers. It felt like there was never quiet. We had read previous reviews and requested a quiet back unit so i imagine the front units would be even noisier with the tractors coming to clear the snow in the mornings.
Skiis and snowboards had to be kept in racks at reception, its fair enough but it didnt seem like they took very good care of them.
The unit was FREEEEZING when we arrived. There was no central heating just a blow heater which we left running most of the time we were there.

Overall the location was excellent, being right in the centre of the village and it was clean and tidy however i probably wouldnt stay here again.

Granted it was a last minute trip, we heard the Blackcomb lodge was functional, close to slopes and nice. First of all, the hotel is basically next to and above the gigantic stage where bands perform. It's also where the media is situated for the Olympics in 2010. Secondly, the hotel is NOT as close to the slopes as reviewers keep writing. I would have spent the money and gone to Four Seasons or Pan Pacific if their policy allowed refunds. Here's a breakdown of the pro's and con's as we experienced.

PROS
1. It is in the village. If you're a 20-something year old wanting to party and drink all night this is the perfect spot.
2. If you like to annoy other guests in the hotel with your rowdy, racist and drunk behavior - this is a great hotel because you will find others just like yourselves.

CONS
1. The hotel LOCKS your skis/snowboards up in the ski rental shop next door that doesn't open until 8am. This means if you were like us that had a early morning flight or heli-skiing trip planned, you are SCREWED. We complained - the staff looked at us and said there's no need for us to be angry in such a manner.
2. The staff are miserable and NOT helpful.
3. The staff lie. They said early check in was possible. When we got there, they said it was a mistake.
4. The staff upon checking in said "no your room is not next to the music stage but your room has its own set of issues."
5. Housekeeping came at 6:30PM when my husband and I were resting and watching TV.
6. Pillows were awful and there were 3 tiny pillows to a king sized bed.

Conclusion: If Whistler is a once in a lifetime trip for you, save your vacation, spend the money and stay in a four star hotel where this kind of behavior is unacceptable, and staff will get fired for being monumentally rude.
