We went on the bear excursion with our guide Jason. He is very knowledgeable and it is evident that he LOVES his work and the bears! We lived in the lower mainland so we see bears all the time but this tour was so amazing because we got to explore the back roads of the mountain. We saw 5 bears, one that flew right passed our landrover. The scenery is spectacular! I highly recommend this tour! :) FUN FUN FUN!!!!

Our family of four was impressed by the kindness of the receptionist. She was very kind to us and very informative. Our driver was also very kind and knowledgable of bears and the area. My concerns are this: the price was very high for our family and our daughter (3 years of age) had to pay full price. The area where we drove on the tour was a public access road that only stretched a few miles. The land rover was full and when trying to take photos of the bears, the people who did not have direct access to the windows of the rand rover (the person in the middle of the middle row and ALL of those in the back row) had to try to maneuver their cameras to take photos. It was a little difficult to take pictures of the bears. Overall, it was a good experience but there are several things we wish would have been different (price and access to windows).

We were able to join this tour at the last minute after being let down by another company. The lady in the tours office by the olympic park in Whistler could not have been more helpful, and even ensured that we got our money back for the tour from the other company and made all the phone calls for us. We were picked up promptly from the hotel, by a very knowledgable guide. The max the 4x4 could take is 6 passengers so the tour would never be too big.
The guide took us to the area most likely to find bears, and additionally took us up some tracks to go look at the alpine ski slopes which we were interested in seeing. We were able to see 3 bears (it was the first week of the season) and the guide was extremely informative, giving us lots of information about their habitat and behaviours. He is a professional photographer and was also able to make sure we got really good photos, moving the car to different angles. The tour lasted 2 hours but that didn't include the time driving to and from hotels and we were able to spend 45 minutes with a single bear.
We drove to the same area ourselves the next day but didn't see any bears. Some people have said that the cost is too much for driving in an area accessible to cars, but really I felt we were paying for the privelidge of the personal guided tour and nature information as well as the ability to see natural areas of beauty we would never have found ourselves.

We had a very good trip with James Fougere, He really loves bears and He said "Bear is my brother" (LOL). He looks like bear's family and He is very fun and excellent guide. He knows them all and where to find them so We saw 17 different bears on our trip. We also saw 3 black tailed deers. I was so excited! I compared about price with another bear tour but price is too high ($220???) but my tour price is $119, I think that price is not bad because it is the best way to see the local bears and We learned more about bears from James.

Although I have rated this excursion as "poor", this is purely in relation to value-for-money rather than the actual experience. We booked the 8am "Rainforest Experience" which the website states includes **bear watching**. Our excellent guide arrived promptly to take us out on this tour. On hearing how hopeful we were to see bears, he seemed rather surprised but agreed to take us to try and see some bears although it would mean less time for the rainforest. We went along the Callaghan Road, that a previous contributer referred to, and we did see one bear - only one. Our guide was excellent and shared his extensive local knowledge with us. He took us to see the nearby falls (which we were able to visit again easily on our own), stopped at a couple of amazing viewpoints on the the Sea to Sky Road (which we had noticed on our way north and stopped at again on our way south) and then took us to the Rainforest. This was a very informative and enjoyable experience, largely due to the excellent commentary from our guide. Where he took us and what he showed us during this walk would have been impossible on our own.
However, in conversation with other people that day, we discovered that for excellent (FREE) bear watching, all we had to do was wait till evening, then drive along that same road and there would be as much chance of seeing them for ourselves as we would on a very expensive organised tour. We did this over two evenings and saw several bears and got lots of great photographs. We even came across two bears on Blackcomb while walking uphill. The guides seem to be extemely knowledgeable but the cost is very inflated for providing what is, for the most part, freely available (Rainforest excluded). If you want to see bears and falls and viewpoints and you have a car - go look for yourself!
