Owner description: Extremely Canadian - based in Whistler, BC - offers Steep Skiing Clinics, Avalanche Skills Training Courses, Backcountry Adventures, Private Guiding and Instruction. We also offer guided all-inclusive ski adventures to exotic locations around the globe. Spawned from a local freeskier's passion for steep skiing and an obvious need to change the face of ski instruction, Extremely Canadian is like no other ski school in the world. Come find out why.

I’m a confirmed mid week skier, but all that fresh snow beckoned this past weekend. How to enjoy it without fighting the crowds? Sign up for an Extremely Canadian Steeps Clinic.
I registered & signed the waiver in advance at one of several WB ski school location. Some participants obviously decided to sign up after hearing the snow report & arrived at the designated meeting point just prior to the start time. The group loaded the Whistler gondola and headed off for a mass warm up run with the instructors. This was followed by a “separator” run that placed participants of similar ability with an instructor. The clinic is geared for advanced intermediate to expert skiers and our coach, Crystal Lee, said that if a client’s skiing ability isn’t appropriate X-Can’s timing is such that the client can be seamlessly transferred to a ski school super group.
The groups are small – we were 3 and with lift line priority we racked up a lot of vertical over the 2 days. Crystal is a personable young woman with an infectious enthusiasm – she loves powder......and skiing it!! She blends humour, encouragement; knowledge; and advice with instruction and kept us moving around the slopes. Typically the first day is spent on Whistler and the second day on Blackcomb, but high winds had closed the alpine so we rode the P2P after lunch in quest of powder. Crystal was an expert at ferreting out appropriate terrain to ski given the weather and took me to new areas I hope I can find again! Unfortunately I had to cut the après short due to a prior commitment, but had time to decompress over a quick beer and some nachos at Merlin’s. I left with a new ski buddy to phone; an Extremely Canadian t- shirt; and tired legs.

I finally got up the courage to take the Extremely Canadian Steep Clinic on Feb 14th and Feb 15th, 2011. The skiers are paired with like abilities, so don't get discouraged after the first run as I almost did. Once you are split up then you will still be pushed, but you won't fear losing your group either. My instructor, Ryan, was fabulous. He was an amazing skier and he gave each of us a few tips to work on that were tailored to each one of us. He built up our confidence and I felt really proud to be skiing with my class mates, Elizabeth from Bermuda and Jonathan from the UK. We had great conditions and let me tell you that Ryan knew how to find the powder. He has powder radar. If you can ski a black diamond and want to improve then this is the class for you. I can hardly wait to take my new skills from Extremely Canadian up to my home mountain, Crystal. Julie from Kirkland, Washington

Dear Extremely Canadian Owners and Staff

I wanted to let you know what an amazing time I had on your 2 Day Steeps Clinic on January 13 and January 14, 2011.

I had very excitedly signed up for the 2 day lesson a few days previous and on the first morning I found myself worried that I was perhaps not a good enough skier (as well as being one of only 2 women). There were about 12 or 13 people total and my fears quickly abated as the instructors expertly accessed our skiing abilities and separated us into appropriate groups. I was place in a group with 2 others who were on a very similar level to me. Our instructor was Steve Mayer.

I have to say he is the best ski instructor I have ever had. He judged the group perfectly, gave us really excellent tips and pointers as well as ensured we understood and could perform each new skill. He made sure we had fun, felt comfortable, had the ability necessary and gave us a little extra encouragement and push when he knew we could do it. Some would say that the 2 days we skied had some difficult snow conditions but I have to say I was glad that was the case. Steve taught me a number of skills to help in difficult snow and the lessons were all that much better for it. I not only had FUN I learned some really great new skills and have gained more confidence in my skiing.

The experience and the instructors were fantastic. Thank you!

ps - cheers to my fellow skiers Pablo from Argentina and Oliver from Australia!
