Description: Locally inspired cuisine set in a casual bistro atmosphere. Chef Nicholas Cassettari combines his classic training, top tier experience, and world travels with the best of B.C.'S bounty to create the fine flavours at Alta Bistro. Service is casual and prompt in the dining room and bar. The wine list is French focused, with the best of B.C. As well as international selections (many by the glass) with Enomatic machines dispensing fine and eclectic selections to pair with Alta's cuisine. Mixologists behind our bar craft some of Whistler's finest cocktails. The cozy bistro atmosphere is lively and welcoming. Reservations are a must.

On my previous visit to Whistler I heard some very good comments/stories about Alta from the kind of people who should know - food crticics and restaurant owners! As a result I was keen to visit and when i found they were doing a Christmas Dinner it was a must.

For me set special event menus can fall into the trap of not showing off a restaurant to its best but this was not the case with Alta. The dinner was excellent - preparation, service and quality of ingredients. One of my favorite restaurants near home prides itself on locally sourced ingredients and Alta do the same. They can tell you the story of your food. Even the accompanying sauces/relishes/mustard etc are made in house and were exquisite.

With a limited menu I was concerned the youngest in our party (11) would struggle but we were pleased to see him put caution aside and attack his plates with gusto.

I must also mention that having made this booking from the other side of the world several months prior to our arrival I did come across a couple of hurdles that needed to be crossed. They were all handled exceptionally well by email and any restaurant that puts that much effort into long distance client contact gives you the feeling that it will be an excellent meal.

We're lucky enought to be here for a few weeks and we will be returning to explore a full range of their dishes! They also have an great wine list.

Beautiful cooking and flavors. Venison was the best I've had in North America. Wine list a bit weak on mid priced California wines. Asking C$3 per person for unlimited Whistler tap water was a but naff but if you ask about it it disappears. Fully priced but the quality makes it a winner.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review, and you comments on our food.

Our wine list is focused on local British Columbian and French wines that compliment our food. We do not attempt to have a large selection of Californian wines.

We do not charge for still purified water.
We charge $3 per person for unlimited purified sparkling water.
We will not remove this charge if you ask us to do so, and we are unsure how his happened.

Hoping to welcome you again next time you are in Whistler.

Food was fresh and very thoughtful but watch the "up selling" waiter was good at it. We do not mind spending for great meals just thought we were a cash machine for them... Nice people, good food but maybe a little full of themselves....

Service was good, food was good not great. With those prices you should walk away feeling like you had a great meal. There are lots of great restaurants up in Whistler. You can do better than this one and not feel like you have been taken advantage of!

We are part-time Whistler residents and have made many visits to Alta Bistro since shortly after it opened. Until recently, this was a terrific value. Prix-fixe menus with nice choices meant a superb meal at reasonable prices (not cheap once you got bread, wine, choices with "supplement"). We went there this week and found that everything was a la carte with entree prices now at levels that formerly were for 2 or 3 courses. The food remains terrific, but priced out of levels where the value is terrific. I guess I'll have to go in low season.
Tuna parfait as an appetizer was spectacular--definitely go for it if it's on the menu.
