Description: Locally inspired cuisine set in a casual bistro atmosphere. Chef Nicholas Cassettari combines his classic training, top tier experience, and world travels with the best of B.C.'S bounty to create the fine flavours at Alta Bistro. Service is casual and prompt in the dining room and bar. The wine list is French focused, with the best of B.C. As well as international selections (many by the glass) with Enomatic machines dispensing fine and eclectic selections to pair with Alta's cuisine. Mixologists behind our bar craft some of Whistler's finest cocktails. The cozy bistro atmosphere is lively and welcoming. Reservations are a must.

We recently were fortunate enough to be able to book the entire restaurant's first seating for our wedding rehearsal dinner. We were thirty or so adults and children which was perfect for the size of this intimate bistro. Prior to the event we had exchanged a number of e-mails with Edward Dangerfield, one of the co-owners, and he couldn't have been more helpful with menu recommendations and wine suggestions.
We can't say enough about the event itself! Our appetizers were a choice of either a fabulous Roasted Butternut Squash soup, or a fresh and flavourful fall salad with roasted onions arugula, golden raisins, etc. For entrees we had a choice of slow braised Angus beef shank with its accompanying fresh vegetables in the braising juices (highly recommended by us) or a pan fried steelhead fillet or a scrumptious roasted chicken breast. Ten out of ten for all three entrees!
Had to have the "Textures of Dark Chocolate" as one of the dessert items - heavenly.
The local British Columbia wines recommended by the owners were delightful and suited the entrees perfectly. The service hit just the right tone of friendliness and professionalism for the purpose of the event. All in all - definitely five stars!

Small but amazing. The food was sublime, we started with the duck liver and elk parfait which was unique and superb. The lobster salad was excellent and then the duck for a main was fantastic. The waiter matched wines very well and the service was excellent. We are so impressed we are going back In a few days again.

Wow, how have we missed THIS place over the years??! Our first time there and what a treat! Amazing menu options and REALLY great value! Great beer and cocktail list organic beer and pop available, as well, the bartender a true mixologist - I just told him what I felt like and he made me up a great martini! I have some great pics of the food. Small restaurant but great vibe. Highly recommended!

We eat at Alta often. Service is always warm and welcoming. The owners truly care about the ingridients and sourcing from excellent local suppliers. They are willing to talk to you about the preparation and sourcing. The food is carefully prepared by a 'chef' and not a 'cook' dishing out assembly line dishes like in so many of Whistler's higher end restaurants. I bring all of my out of town friends here and they always leave impressed.

Came back to Alta Bistro after having visited about two years ago, when I had a great experience and kept going back. This time I was with family, wife and teenaged son. We had a reservation and they seated us right away. Service is attentive and warm, it feels more like a family place than an upscale restaurant. We all had the 3-course menu. Food quality was mixed. Some high notes and some things so-so. A few of the dishes seems a bit pretentious and gimmicky, which only works if backed by outstanding preparation, which in this case missed the (high) mark.
Anyway, still a place I recommend. Food in general is expensive at Whistler, and this is one of the best choices as far as value. Nice atmosphere and inventive drinks are a plus!
