This place is like a normal budget hotel... minimal staff and reasonable prices. They have a bit of a cheek taking a 250CD surety against damage when the heavy venetian blind fell down, somebody had tried to iron the carpet, 2 of the 4 bathroom light bulbs were bust and the coffee percolator lid fell off
Let this litany of screwups not put you off your stay as the view from the twin angular bay windows toward Whistler and Blackcomb mountains from the top floor were superb. The hotel seemed to undersell itself from the description on the net... the studio room was a great size with plenty of room for cooking full meals, sitting and relaxing. Unusually for budget travellers in Canada there were 2 chairs and 2 bedside tables with 2 working lamps ! The small kitchen had 2 hot plates, toaster, coffee percolator, kettle, microwave, dishwasher, sink, good size fridge and all the cutlery, pans and dishes you would need.
The room had a very comfortable bed with a flat screen tv and DVD attached to the wall, mirrored door wardrobe and 2 bedside units for storage and free wifi.
Bathroom contained an efficient shower in the 'hottub', vanity sink, hairdryer, clothes washer and drier machines.
Boy, if you had all these facilities in a London Budget Hotel it would cost a fortune and probably fall to pieces.
So beside the faults, which were inconsequential, the only other annoying facts were the 12CD per night parking charge for the underground car park and the ever accruing taxes!
For the 90CD per night ,all in charge, it was an excellent bargain.

We come to Whistler every second weekend in the summer and this by far has been the worst "hotel" experience. The hotel seems to be more time-share focused, and runs the hotel buisness on the side. As such, things that you would normally expect from a hotel don't necessarily apply to the Cascades. First, they have a strict 4pm check-in and strict 10am check-out (10am??!). The gym/pool doesn't open until 10am, which is rediculous considering it is not attended to by any staff. Your room doesn't get cleaned unless you stay longer than 5 days. The hotel isn't well insulated, so you hear lots of people coming back from the bars/traffic from the highway at night. The desk staff are friendly enough, but they are not very competent nor helpful, and as mentioned before, there was a suprise surcharge which was not disclosed until after we had booked the hotel. Also, they are often short-staffed and place their phones on "forward" to another Resort Quest lodge, so when we wanted to call ahead to see where things were at, we couldn't get through. And when things go wrong, don't expect any sympathy nor compensation. I overheard the gentleman checking out in line ahead of me complaining that his room didn't have air conditioner (it was above 30C this weekend) and he had complainted several times and no one had come to assess or even try to fix the situation. The woman asked if he was able to open the windows (!!) and when he said that he did, she smiled and said "I'm glad, that must have made it much better". I'm just glad that didn't happen to us.

It was relatively cheap, but for the same price you can get MUCH better in the village.

Very close to the village, fine for summer. Not a ski-in resort in winter though. Big pool and 2 hot tubs which were most welcome. Small fitness centre. The only downside to this resort was the additional charge for parking - beware.

Cascade Lodge

Paths: Somewhat treacherous walk to gondals for some reason this year ( the company who are responsble for path clearing) did not bothered to clear paths outside main square. Therefore, several morning walking on sheet black ice! which included two nasty falls with skis. Safer to walk on busy roads.

Cascade Lodge itself
Although our room was non-smoking it was obvious on arrival that the previous occupant did not follow this rule. The whole apartment smelt of smoke, which lingered for a couple of days. Also dishwasher covered all dishes in grit. Apartment generally ok although a bit tatty around the edges;

bathroom towel rails hanging off
shower curtain rail broken
incomplete kitchen list e.g. no corkscrew / grater / blunt knives
no safety deposit box

Hot tub and pools both great.

Great value for money and kid friendly. We had a two bedroom apartment. Very spacious, clean and well appointed. Great fireplce, flat screen satellite TV, DVD player, the works. The dishwasher, washing machine and dryer were a real bonus too. The ski rent shop in the foyer was great and affordable. Hot tubs were excellent (if not a bit crowded at times). There is ample parking and it really is a very short walk into Whistler village. The free shuttle bus that comes around every 15 min and stops outside the lodge takes you to both slopes, so its really no hassle. I would have happily rated this place higher, but the shower room at the gym was dirty and on one occassion all our room key cards decided not to work - it happened to many people so the queues at the front desk were horrendous.

Dont book this if you are after ultimate luxury and pampering. Book this if you want to be free to do your own thing. If ever back in Whistler, I will go straight back here!
