“Spacious condo very near the lift”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 24, 2014

Stayed in a two bedroom, one bathroom condo, the type with a mezzanine, and a gas fireplace. It was spacious. The staff were helpful. Jaccuzzi and pool were really nice after a hard day of skiing. The ski valet on the ground floor is a convenient service that they offer. We tend to cook and stay in at nite, the supermarket across the street is handy. Otherwise at a 15 minute walk there is a full service grocery store-pharmacy-BC liquor outlet-and more (Market Place). To get on the lift a short 5 minute walk. Located in Whistler's Upper Village there are some good restaurants. The main attractions of the Lower Village are quick 10 minutes away on foot. The condo came fully equipped, there some issues: the chopping knifes were broken, the frying pans was the size of a very small plate, the can opener was useless, there were no scrubbies for the pots, and the dishwasher door springs were out, now having said this, when we requested that these be corrected, within an hour all was back in order, now that's service!

Glacier Lodge is a three-floor condo with individually owned and leased units. Although there is "front desk" that is staffed 24 hours, this is not a hotel (i.e., no housekeeping unless separately arranged with owner). We stayed in Unit 215, a two bedroom, two bath unit with kitchen, for five days. The condo was clean, nicely decorated, and had a fully equipped kitchen with up-to-date appliances. Everything worked. Glacier Lodge itself is centrally located across from the Fairmont, and a short walk to the Blackcomb lifts - you really can't ask for easier access to the lifts. Ski storage is available at no extra charge in the ski store located in the Lodge. There is a cozy pub with a half dozen BC microbrews on tap located in the Lodge. Parking is $15/night. Whistler Village is a brisk five minute (I timed it) walk away. Upper Village is a quiet alternative to the main Whistler Village, and if that's what you're looking for Glacier Lodge is an excellent place to stay.

To be honest after the couple of issues with our holiday booking and reading some reviews, we were a bit apprehensive about our choice of lodgings for our holiday. We had originally booked to stay at the Delta Suites in the main village but due to an error by Canadian Affair, they had to find an alternative hotel for us. Ironically our lodging were the only thing that worked out well for us from our package from Canadian Affair, between lost luggage and no transfer reservation we were not hopeful about the hotel when we finally got on the road to Whistler.

We had a room booked in Glacier Lodge from Boxing Day for two weeks and upon arrival were not surprised to find that the reservation could not be found but for some strange reason Canadian Affair decided to book under the second guest name rather than the main name as per the other itinerary items, but the guy on reception was great and found our booking. We we got into our room, we were pleased to find that we had been upgraded to a one bedroom unit (room 251). This unit had a lounge/dining area, open plan kitchen and large bedroom along with private balcony over looking the pool area. The unit was well furnished and had a tv in both the lounge and bedroom with a good range of cable channels along with a fully kitted kitchen, there was nothing else we needed.

The hotel provides ski/board storage within the rental store on the ground floor, you may have to queue to get your gear as the store can be busy with people renting but we found we waited no more than five minutes when busy.

Like with most hotels in US and Canada the board is room only so to have the kitchen was great. For those used to holidaying in Europe it was just like a self catering holiday apartment. I had noted from previous reviews comments around the lack of information provided and also housekeeping details. The unit had plenty of information about Whistler and also the hotel facilities. It is advised that housekeeping is every 4 days for stays over 5 days. We were booked in for two weeks and housekeeping visited every 3 days. The units also had plenty of towels, cleaning products and bed linen and we never ran out before housekeeping returned. There are laundry facilities on each floor which are coined operated but as we did not use them I cannot comment further. There is no restaurant within the premises but there is a linked restaurant. We did not try this as there are plenty of options on offer around the village. There is also a small bar and a spa within the hotel too. The hotel also provides free wi-fi which was very handy. Around the resort it is also easy to pick free wi-fi when required.

What we really enjoyed was the location, you are 2 minutes from the chair lifts on Blackcomb and there are a few bars and other hotels such as the Fairmont and Four Seasons next door, so a variety of dining options on your doorstep. The main village is a 5-10 minute walk and again with loads of options available. After visiting the village and seeing where our original hotel was, we were very pleased that we were in the Upper Village as the majority of the hotels in the main village overlooked the pedestrian areas and noise would have been an issue especially during the busy periods along with the walk to the lifts which were very busy in the morning compared to Blackcomb.

I have also noted some comments around noise too. The location of Glacier Lodge is great as it is in a quite area. The only noise we heard was the occasional early morning skier walking the hall with ski boots but even then the noise was not intrusive. The pool area is very popular regardless of the weather with a lot of people using the hot tubs and pool. Again you are aware that there are guests using the facilities but the noise was minimal.

If we returned to Whistler, I would stay at Glacier Lodge again and would request room 251.

We arrived at Glacier Lodge and then was directed to another hotel to check in. Luckily we had a car with us so we could drive to the other hotel. Then whilst checking in we were told that we were staying on the lower side of the village (location was good but again we were glad we had a car). There was a $20-$30 additional tax we were not aware of but this seems to be the norm in North America.

The apartment was great. It was almost larger than our own! Having a full kitchen meant we could enjoy some home cooked meals by the fireplace.

Main complaint is the confusing information about how and where to check in. Would have been nice to know in advance so that we wasted less time navigating.

Spent a week in Whistler. Despite below average snow conditions for this time of year, we loved the skiing, the village and the mountain amenities. We stayed at Glacier Lodge in the Upper Village. Its proximity to the Blackcomb Wizard chair was excellent. However, we did find ourselves doing a lot of walking for restaurants and shopping over to the main village. Would probably stay on that side next time. The room configuration (deluxe one bedroom with loft) was great but the property management left a little to be desired. One of two elevators didn't work for the majority of the stay, one of two hot tubs was out of order a couple of times and the overall feel of the property didn't match the higher price we were paying. So, average property but above average vacation at Whistler.

My family rented two 1BR units (250 and 252) for our annual Christmas Whistler trip. The hotel is ok. Nothing fancy. The price we got was very good thus making it a very good value. I believe the units are individually owned so they are appointed differently. They were both about 600 sq ft in size. 252 was deemed a deluxe 1br unit and cost a little more and other than an additional pull-out couch it was not better than 250. The units were clean. TV's were pretty small and internet access was very good when it worked but it was very spotty on the last 3 days of our stay. The front desk told us they would call to have it fixed but it didn't get better. Also, there is limited maid service (once every 4 days?) and the front desk, while polite, is pretty useless. There are shared laundry machines (coin operated), a pool, hot tub, exercise room, and good ski rental/storage shop in the hotel. The best thing about this hotel is its location. It is in the Upper Village (Blackcomb lifts) and is a nice, less than 10min walk to Whistler Village. Oh and they charge $15 per day for parking, even for hotel guests. While pretty standard at Whistler, charging that much for parking to hotel guests seems to me like a poor way to do business.
