My fiance stayed here on a 2 night trip Sept 14 and 15. We drove a few hours from WA state to get to Whistler, I've been there several times before, but have never stayed at the Summit. I was very impressed by the quality of the rooms, the fact that they allow pets (we should have brought our boxer puppy!), and the cleanliness of the pool/ spa area and room itself. This would be a good place to stay if you were up here in the winter skiing too. We were on the 4th floor. Front desk was also great, very helpful. The location is close in to the village action. The java spa they have there is a must do if you have some extra $. The restaurant was nothing special however, and service there was slow. I HIGHLY recommend the French Creperie across the street for breakfast; that place is a real treat.

One complaint about the Summit is the terrible parking garage, the stalls are simply way too small, even for an average sized car. Does everyone in Whistler drive Smart cars or civics??? You're out of luck if you're driving a truck.

Other than the parking situation, I would recommend a stay at the summit.

We won two nights at The Summit in a charity raffle. Kimpton hotels is a pet-friendly chain, but in their city hotels, I doubt that so many pets arrive on a daily basis. Whistler is a resort and there are lots of dogs in evidence. This means that even people who are mildly allergic to dog dander will be affected by the four legged guests of which there are many.

They certainly clean the rooms well enough to the naked eye, vacuuming and changing sheets - but the duvet and the throw pillows, sofa cushions and other fabrics in the room (like the curtains) are going to accumulate enough dander to make allergies flare up. The cushion on our couch (Rm 206) had one corner chewed down to the white under-fabric by someone's furry friend.

The other major problem was with noise. Room doors do not block out any noise from the hallway, so that even opening and closing of neighboring room doors will be quite noticeable.

It's too bad, because the Summit has many things going for it - nice location in a quiet part of the village, well equipped kitchenette, and friendly staff. But this isn't enough to make me want to go back to this particular property.

Thank you Haman44 for taking the time to give us feedback.

We're sorry that you found the service dissatisfactory and can understand completely.

Since your review in September 2007, we have had an overhaul in management and some renovations, and a lot of new and different staff. Since then our team have made a lot of changes to our brand, service and design, and hope that if you return you'll find it quite different to your experience.

For our third trip to Whistler we stayed several days at the Summit Lodge. The accommodations were just as requested (well, we had to convince the desk that we had reserved a room with at least a queen size bed, so the two twins they assigned us to initially didn't meet our expectations. However, we were quickly given a room with a king bed on the main floor, and the facilities were quite nice.

The view from our tiny balcony toward the city park system was lovely. A very small pool and a single hot tub were not quite up to Kimption standards, but with cooler weather around Canada Day it was OK. Seeing a black bear across from the hotel rummaging through flower boxes at 6 am was a special treat. I followed him through the passage way into the Market Place where he went past the IGA and then headed back toward Lost Lake. The reception desk lady was quite excited, since she had seen only one bear in town since starting employment there.

When we checked out we forgot to check all kitchen cupboards. Once we arrived at our next hotel, I realized that some groceries and perhaps part of my espresso equipment was left in the room. A phone call in the afternoon, however, yielded no positive result. The Summit Lodge front desk claimed that nothing was found in that room. Maybe it's standard procedure for the housekeepers to remove all items not on the supply list, but I am sure someone got to enjoy pricey new potatoes, gourmet coffee beans and Costco ciabatta bread. Don't know what they plan to do with part of my espresso machine, though.

Remember: ONE person is designated to check all areas of a room; don't drive away thinking the other guest has done so.

Stayed in February 2007 for one week skying in Whistler. Room was very confortable with small kitchen, frigo. Bathroom was Ok.

There is a free shuttle from the hotel to the Village Gondola that runs in opening hours.

The breakfast is served in the restaurant next to the hotel (it is from the hotel I think). It is good but it doesn't worth for dinner.

The only thing I was disapointed is that it was the first time that the reception of an hotel calls me to tell me that I'm in "late check out". We were supposed to leave the room at 11h and it was 11h10...

But in overall a very good option and not expensive for a journey in Whistler.

The Summit has a great location within easy walking distance to the village. The rooms buffer noise very well as we found our room was extremely quiet. There were many travellers during our weekend there (hotel was sold out) but it was as if we were the only ones staying there (it was that quiet!).

The beds were superb and the duvet was a nice touch. The washroom was upscale, clean, and nice set of supplies. The on-demand movie selection was excellent if not a bit pricey.

One thing that must not be missed is the restaurant. Avoid the chains in the village and come to the Summit to eat. We ate both dinner (tapas style) at the hotel and had breakfast. During peak season, weekend brunch lineups are apparently legendary as word has got out about what a great restaurant the hotel has.

The outdoor pool and hot tub were nice touches to end our long day. All rooms have a balcony; again a nice way to sit outside in the comfort of your room and soak in Whistler's beauty.

Two faults and areas of improvement for the hotel:

(1) 20 dollars for parking per day seemed excessive. For the rate, I would have expected the Summit to include this.

(2) There was an internet terminal in the main lobby. Again, for the rate we paid, I would have expected the Summit would have provided this as a courtesy. The only way to use the internal terminal was to use coins. No credit cards were permitted. And stunningly, the front desk staff refused to provide change. Consequently, we walked over to the 7/11 to make change and return to the hotel to use the internet terminal.

We have stayed at the Summit three times (2 winter & 1 summer) and have had great service each time. It is clean with average size rooms which include a kitchen area. There is a very good grocery about two minutes walk from the front door, so breakfast and packed lunches are a bargain. While it costs $20 to park under the hotel, there is free parking in the ski area day lots less than a five minute walk from the hotel. Just ask at the front desk.

My girlfriend & I just returned from an outstanding ski vacation in Whistler B.C. (2/25 - 3/2). We booked via Alaska Air, and had have no complaints....everything went remarkably smoothe. Our package included 5-nights at the Summit Lodge, and ground transportation with Perimeter Express.

I've highlighted my personal "Pro & Con" of our trip....

Pro:
1) Summit Lodge is a great boutique hotel. The hotel decor is "indonesian-flare" w/ aromatherpy scent throughout the lobby. They even offer yoga kits for your use (i.e. for stretching after skiing all day). The overall decor is simple, not overly done up, but very tasteful. Our room was very clean and spacious for a studio. The studio came with a very practical kitchenette, which made making our own breakfasts easy. The bathrooms was big enough & nice. The bed was comfortable, but that's my preference. The balcony is small, but in the winter, who uses it.

2) The staff was very nice & helpful w/ answering our questions and other small requests. Housekeeping was always cheerful by greeting us each morning in the hallways while making our way to the slopes.

3) Complimentary ski shuttle van......hands down the greatest amenity the Summit offers! The shuttle runs everyday from 8am - noon, and then 1pm - 4pm for only hotel guests. Each morning the van was there waiting for us, and at the Village to pick us up after each day of skiing.

4) The Village walkway, between Summit and Whistler Village was approx. 7-minutes. A very easy stroll through the heart of the Village. I wouldn't carry your skis through it in boots, take the shuttle, but for a carefree walk its very nice.

5) Spa - the Summit has an in-house spa w/ offered a full array of spa services. I had the Javanese Massage after my third day of skiing....and boy was it something. I never felt such pain in working out my sore muscles, but it was worth it the next day skiing.

Con:

1) Parking is expensive, from what we heard.
2) Internet use has a fee, unless you bring your own laptop.

Of all the restaurants, we preferred the following: Spiltz Grill (great hamburgers, good price), Sachi Sushi (next to Summit), Old Spaghetti Factory (inexpensive).

Whistler/Blackcomb had great conditions during our visit. Our preference was for Blackcomb, mainly due to: less crowded, shorter lift lines. FYI - on windy days, ski off of the Crystal Lift.

Again, great trip! We're planning to visit again next year, and stay at the Summit.
