“1st time and can't wait to return to Crystal Lodge”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 20, 2013

This was our first time staying on the Whistler side being an Intrawest member for 10+ years and always on the Blackcomb mountain side. What a fantastic experience from when we first step foot into this super hotel/lodge and we continued to be impressed, happy and already planning our next trip. Definitely the best location being within steps to the lifts, shopping and restaurants. Amazing customer service and quality of rooms. Only disappointment was pool/hot tub, as it was often crowded with only one hot tub and awkward entrance walking past restaurant guests and being exposed to the restaurant windows. Otherwise, fantastic first experience.

Room Tip: we stayed in a Junior Deluxe Queen Suite on the back side and it was very quiet and quality upgrades

My wife and I just returned from a trip to Whistler and we were very happy with our stay at the Crystal. The room was very nice, as was the ski valet, and everyone at the front desk was wonderful, but what's best about the Crystal is its prime location in the center of Whistler Village. Many of the shops along the Village Stroll are actually in the ground floor of the hotel, and certain key places like Starbucks can be accessed from the hotel's lobby. We were very happy with the Crystal and look forward to returning.

This hotel is at the centre of the pedestrian village, 2 minutes walk to the gondola. Ski storage is provided free.
Hotel staff are very friendly. Rooms to the front can be noisy with party-goers so light sleepers should ask for rooms at the back.
Hotel has 2 restaurants which are very good: the Spaghetti Factory which is cheap and cheery, ideal for families; and Rics Grill bar which is more up market.
Sports bar is good place to socialise with other skiers or watch sports on the numerous tvs.

Room Tip: Rooms to the back are quieter.

My fiance booked this room for us in July 2012, on a summer getaway to Whistler where he proposed :). He communicated with Crystal Lodge prior to our trip and we were immediately upgraded to a 1 bedroom king suite with a double soaker! At the time I thought we were just lucky but little did I know the real reason! We were both really impressed with the accomodations given the summer pricing. It's a little beat up but of course it would be, it's primarily a ski lodge. They definitely cater to a younger clientele but we appreciated that.

Will absolutely stay here in the future and would recommend to anyone!

We've now stayed at Crystal for three consecutive years - and intend to continue to do so.

When we first started skiing Whistler we based ourselves at Creekside because it was less expensive, quieter and close to the Creekside Gondala. In 2010 we discovered (to our surprise) that we could get good deals in Whistler Village, and we stayed at the Westin for about what it used to cost us at Creekside.

We were immediately 'hooked' on the Village lifestyle, so before we left we drew a circle on a map (defining the maximum distance we wanted to be away from the lifts) and went around researching hotels.

The Crystal came up as having the right type of rooms at the right price, so we booked there for the next year. We've stayed there every year since and have booked again for next year.

Here's why we keep coming back:

Location. Skis are designed for sliding downhill on snow, not being carried on shoulders. We want to be no more than a minute or two from the lifts. Tick.

Room size / facilities. We tend to eat out every third day or so, so it's important to have a proper kitchen. There are three of us travelling (including a teenage girl), so having two full bathrooms is very useful. The 1 bedroom suite with Murphy bed suits us well. Pulling the made-up Murphy Bed down is a lot less bother than setting up a sofa bed each night. There's a good sized workspace in the bedroom to set up the various charging stations, computer, cameras etc.

I've read some complaints about the Wi-Fi, and while it wasn't perfect it actually wasn't too bad. I recorded download speed of over 7Mbps and upload of 4.5Mbps - which is a lot faster than I get at home!

Service. Very friendly, and more personal than the larger hotels. The ski valet service was good, particularly on the occasions where we were able to hand off our skis at the Village stroll level instead of downstairs.

Negatives? Very few. The spa tends to get very crowded on busy weekends, there's no real place for kids to hang out and it would be useful to have some hooks in the rooms for hanging up helmets etc. It can get noisy at night, particularly during Martin Luther King weekend, but that's just Whistler! (we stay on the opposite side of the Hotel to the Village Stroll, but even that side is not immune from the sound of late night revellers.

Bottom line: Love it!

We stayed there for our ski trip in Whistler. The location was excellent, it was just few steps away from the lift, which is very important to me as, I didn't want to walk with my skis for 10 min to get to the gondola... The room was very clean and was serviced regularly. we stayed at a traditional King-bed room. It was not luxury, but for ski trip I am not going for luxury. Their bed was clean and comfortable. The only issue was the bar near the hotel. As a middle-aged couple, we were waking up at 6am and skiing all day, at night we were in our bed fairly early. but around mid-night and after, there were a couple of groups of drunk people, yelling and screaming on the street. That happened every night.

Thank you very much for your feedback from your recent experience at the Crystal Lodge. I am pleased that you liked your overall experience however disappointed that you were woken up on occasion by noisy bar patrons. We work closely with our neighbours and will be sure to share your feedback during our next meeting.

My husband, two kids and I stayed at Crystal Lodge for Chinese New Year for a beautiful week of skiing. The front desk staff and concierge were very helpful and service oriented, making for a very nice stay.

However, the Mardis Gras-like celebrate that happened nightly outside our room was distracting and made it hard to sleep. Drunk folks screaming obscenities made it less family friendly than we would have liked. There was also a very drunk guy who showed up at the front desk when I was waiting for the shuttle in the wee hours of the morning. He placed his head on the counter and fell asleep for a minute before stumbling off.

The staff were lovely...and my issue may only be solved by staying in the more peaceful Blackcomb.

Room Tip: Do not stay anywhere near the bar!

Jen, I am pleased to read that you and your family had a beautiful week of skiing and found our service team to very helpful. During select weekends of the year the ambient noise from the adjacent village stroll can indeed be intrusive however we work closely with the resorts by-law services to mitigate as best as possible for our guests. One recommendation I have is that for light sleepers to request a room on the south facing side of the hotel.
Kind regards,
Ian Lowe
