Wife and I just came back from a double-kayak trip down the ROGD. Water was high and the trip was as peaceful and tranquil as I have always remembered it to be. Highly recommended. Take your time and relax in one of the many eddys along the way. Allow 2 to 3 hours.

It was a really good trip, and if you are able to Canoe it would probably be even better. We spent a considerable amount of time in and out of the bushes on the edge and received no initial guidance on how to control the canoe. But it is worth the trip - next time I think we would just go with single kayaks :D

Yes single kayaks give the individual more control. Glad you had fun.

I love the blooming skunk cabbage (?), the many birds -wotth taking binnoculars to watch)-, the sense of wildness and the occassional view of a black bear. It is peaceful, beautiful,

Thanks for your lovely comments. Yes this spring is a great time of year in Whistler and once again the skunk cabbage is coming out of the ground to feed the bears waking up from a long winter's nap.

Grab your inflatable boats from walmart find somewhere to dock and you're set!
There are companies which do canoe/kayak tours but if you want to get in there like the locals do you need to try the inflatable boat.
There is always one casualty per group so be careful of sticks poking up from the bottom. THe water is freezing as it is mostly glacier fed so you cant plan to be out of the boat long. If the river is low you need to walk a couple of places but mostly should have no troubles

Days on the river are the best of the summer :)

Dont forget sunscreen!

This is a fun alternate but please boating and being drunk does not mix. As well please pack in and pack out as we have been picking up your garbage. Thousands (yes 1000's) of beer cans, punctured inflatables, flip flops etc...
