We visited in February and were promptly escorted from the park. It's open to snowshoeing and cross country skiing (for a fee) from November to April. Not clearly marked. Rainbow lake instead is really beautiful for walking.

After a fairly serious fall, I was ready to get off the slopes, but not off my skis. Fortunately for me, the folks at Lost Lake have everything you need to introduce yourself to the loveliness that is cross-country skiing. With its well-maintained double track, the path to Lost Lake is easy to navigate for any beginner and certainly an expert. Skis and snowshoes are available for rental and the staff at the Lost Lake Passivhaus are exceedingly helpful and friendly. If you're a novice like me, you may benefit from a 75-minute lesson (my guide Milos was wonderful), which also affords you all day ski rental and trail access. Note that finding Lost Lake takes a little effort (you have to walk there via the path behind the Whistler Village Daily Parking lots) but it's well worth it. This activity is recommended for just about anyone capable of walking for a mile or so.

It was a nice crisp afternoon and we went off in search of the lost lake. It was well worth-it too! When we got there it was frozen over and we watched as families walked out across to the floating pontoon someway in! Carefully we checked the frozen water and, sure enough, it was solid enough to walk out too. DO NOT TRY THIS UNLESS YOU ARE COMPLETELY SURE!!

Even though it was a cold day, the whole area had a nice cozy feel to it and I am sure it is just as nice .... if not better even, in the summer.

A walk around a lake stocked with trout. Wide hard paths, with many trails going off through the woods. Great for kids and familes. Pine and fir trees that smell of their names. Bears all asleep. Great story tellling area. Covered BBQ spots. Benches to sit on. Wear good foot wear. Easy walk. Dog walkers, couples.
Lovely fir trees, bridges to cross, warm up stations, closed when cross country skiing is on. Fresh clean air steps away from the Chateau Fairmont Whistler. MT Bike trails, golf nearby if you have lots of guests. Kids under 8 were sledding nearby by and building snowmen. Check with tourism if you want to walk in winter and where to go.

This just a short walk from your hotel, and it is so quiet and peaceful. Put a sandwich and a beverage in your back pack and have lunch at the lake.
