“Excellent value for your money”

This was by far the best hotel among the seven we stayed in during our West Coast trip. What was unbelievable is that the price was under 200 with mounainview (above 6th level). The hotel has great location, looks great, clean, the room is big and cozy.
Be aware that the parking is NOT free. Add 27CAD for an economy underground parking.

We booked this hotel because we got an INCREDIBLE deal for their anniversary sale (about 80USD/night). Though I had never stayed at the Chateau before, I used the spa once and liked it very much, so I was looking forward to our stay.

The room was a bit sorry, but we didn't feel cheated since we paid so little. It was a pokey little affair with a slanted ceiling and bedclothes from the early 80s. The bed was comfortable though the sheets were far from luxe. That said, we had a mountain view and a window seat from which to enjoy it. I haven't seen any other rooms on the property, but it seems as though many guests posting on this form are disappointed.

Despite the noisy kids splashing in the pool, the spa was still enjoyable-- hot-tubbing at the foot of the mountains with Bloody Ceaser cocktail service is my kind of vacation relaxation. I used the eucalyptus steam room on the last day and regretted that I hadn't made time for it every day.

I prefer the Chateau's location in the Upper Village to the Lower Village, which gets ROWDY in the evenings. We had to make frequent 10-minute treks to see our friends, visit the grocery/liquor store etc., but it was nice to be able to escape the throng at the end of the day.

Service was friendly if impersonal. No complaints.

Don't eat here-- the food is overpriced and didn't seem fresh. Ciao Thyme bistro and Quinny's Cafe (the best spiced chicken!!) across the way are both good alternatives for quick meals, and there are upscale restaurants in town.

*Don't park here if you can help it. 27CAN is not a fair price for self-parking.*

If we'd paid much more for this hotel, I would be annoyed. As it stands, we had a perfectly nice experience with some lovely perks, for the price of a motel. So I suggest you look for similar deals or research other places to stay.

We stayed at the Fairmont for a 3night stay mid June when the ski season had just ended hence we got an excellent deal of 3 nights for the price of 2. What a treat awaited us ! The entrance to the Fairmont is very grand but welcoming at the same time and our double bedroom was tastefully furnished, spacious and enjoyed a nice view onto the mountains. The room was spotlessly clean. If staying here, dont miss the outdoor hot tubs. Even in the rain this was a very pleasant experience..you can even enjoy a cocktail while sweating it out in the hottub.
On making the booking we were worried that perhaps this hotel was a bit far from the main town but Whistler village and upper village are contained within quite a small area and its really only a five minute walk to the action. The only bad thing about this hotel is the price of food and drink for room service and in the restaurant -definitely the highest prices I saw anywhere in BC- a pity because I dont mind paying a premium normally for the convenience of dining in the hotel especially after a long days travelling but the prices here were sky high.
I definitely wouldnt let that put me off though as theres a decent choice in the village itself. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We have stayed at this property twice this year. Our first stay was in Feb/March. We booked it on a whim, literally a day in advance in response to an advertised special. We loved Whistler as a romance destination. Upon our return booked with the Chateau for a visit the last week in June for a very well priced golf package.

Arrival and Check In: We were contacted by the hotels well in advance of our arrival date to have our tee times arranged. Contact in advance with Andrea at the President's Club reservations desk were excellent.

When we arrived, we had a tee time set up prior to check-in and I had made some inquires about storing our luggage. We pulled up in a cab, were greeted, upgraded, check-in and whisked to the golf course in an Escalade in moments. A crackerjack team at the door, the desk, the shuttle and the golf course. We did this for an entire week and this team was the best. We felt like a million bucks.

Accommodations: We stayed slope side this time. IMHO both side have nice views. Chateau Whistler has a very traditional décor style. Wouldn't mind seeing future upgrades go more modern, but that's nitpicking. Room were very comfortable, very quiet, with very nice large bathrooms, beds wonderful. No flat screen, but that's not an issue for us at all. Housekeeping staff attentive and helpful.

As an aside, we found the winter budget room" cozy" small but very comfortable. A really good value. We got what we expected for the low price + the benefits of being a lovely property.

Fitness: Very good gym. Loved the outdoor heated pools and hot tubs. Fantastic after a day of golfing in cool weather.

Restaurants and Lounges: We found the menus at the Wildflower, Mallard Lounge, and Golf Club very similar and surprisingly for a Fairmont, lacked variety. It was OK. We weren't inspired enough to try the Wine Room, based on these experiences. We found on both trips that the Wildflower was slow to acknowledge us, slow to get us seated and would only do so after, looking us up on the computer at length. Isn't this something they could do after we were seated? It became annoying and just went to the Mallard instead. We almost felt like they were in a different hotel. Keeps us from giving an "excellent" rating to the hotel overall. The Portabello, however, was great, accommodating and friendly for sandwich, salads, coffee etc. Well done. Lots of outstanding dining options in Whistler.

Location: We loved the quieter location on the Blackcomb slope. Easy access in minutes by free shuttle or foot to town, proper. A few shops anther hotels nearby to keep it from being isolated. The door staff lent us an umbrella when it rained.

Golf Course: Excellent golf course and we played it 6 times. The front four holes are the toughest. What it lacked in length it made up in breadth. It you're the kind of golfer who hates elevation changes, it's not for you. The long holes play uphill, the par 3s downhill. Some of the greens are blind off the tee, most of them have a very narrow approach. It's one of those courses that is actually carved out of the terrain rather than created by a bulldozer. Many sloping fairways require the most precise shots that you can manage. There are also some swirling winds over some of the creeks (or that's my story) that will surprise you.

It's target golf. If it's wet (and it often was) the par 4s and 5s play longer without any roll. DH played off the tips and I played off the ladies. The forward tees were still challenging in terms of shot making, it wasn't just shorter playing from them. They only complaint we had were that some of the greens were fuzzy and slow. Apparently, early season melt and refreeze was not kind to them.

It was quite cold in the morning. Bring a rain jacket, lots of balls and a camera. Two bear sightings. We were set up with 11 am times with our package. Best weather of the day. Wonderful attentive service. Ranked highly as a golf resort and justifiably.

All in all, a wonderful stay. We received very good value for the money and our President's Club membership did indeed offer benefits. We're hooked.

The Fairmont is a great place to stay if you want to be right where all the action is. Right outside the doors is a child's paradise. Whistler Kids includes everything from a mini luge ride, to bungy swings to mini golf. My husband and I don't have kids, and even we enjoyed this area. You are just steps from the gondolas and several restaurants. The hotel itself is beautiful; rooms are cozy, but not too small. The outside pools are great (heated pools are a big plus), but I have to say that I was very disappointed in the spa area. We visited the spa to take showers right before closing (11pm), and I was hesitant about even going into the shower, given how unclean it looked. It has nowhere near the serenity or amenities that the Four Seasons does, and this is the only spa I have been to where they don't provide robes. We had to use the robes from our room if we wanted to use the spa area.

We ate at both the Wildflower Restaurant and the Mallard Lounge. We had not-so-great service at the lounge, because we had to find someone to take our order. We sat in the back because there was a singer performing that night and we didn't want to sit too close. However, once the server arrived, it was an okay experience. A much better experience was to be found at the Wildflower Restaurant. The service was wonderful and both the dinner and the breakfast bufftet that we had was very good.

The main downside to this hotel is that it tends to attract a lot of kids and rowdy adults. We could hear yelling coming from downstairs as late as 1am. There is a firepit next to the pool and after these rowdy adults were told to get out of the pool after closing time, they moved to the fire pit and continued their rowdiness there.

We would probably stay here again, but we felt that the Four Seasons was nicer; even without all the proximities to the area attractions.

A tip; if you haven't already done so, join the Fairmont President's Club. We are members and you get credits for each time you stay, which leads to rewards, like free nights. Takes a while, but in the meantime, there are other perks. When we arrived at the hotel, we didn't even have to check in. It was already done for us! And we got free daily papers and free internet. Plus, the President's Club is free to join as well.

This was one of the best vacations we've ever had. The Chateau Whistler is a beautiful resort in one of the most beautiful settings imaginable.
The staff is first rate as was the room and amenities. Everything is within walking distance: Shopping, hiking trails, ski lifts, adventure tour booking stations.
We can't wait to go back to Whistler, and will definately stay here when we do.
