We recommend the food and service at The Grill Room for a more formal, delicious dinner. It is located on The Blackcomb side, which was convenient for us as well, staying at Le Chamois. The oysters on the half shell were served perfectly, and were the freshest, best tasting that I had all week. I had to get another order. The side of Grown-up Mac n' Cheese is very grown-up, rich and delicious! My husband's steak topped with gorgonzola was better than his steak at Rim Rock (which we always enjoy.) The finishing touch was whimsical and I actually loved it, (ate it ALL myself) but I won't ruin the surprise for you here. The service was so unpretentious (a refreshing break from the likes of Bearfoot) and authentically friendly.

Now called the Grill room. Went here twice as I thought I would give it a second chance after the first one.

The service the first time was terrible - some issues in the kitchen, but it wasn' great the second time.

I had the salad both times and it was pretty good. Certainly at the level it should be. The veal first time was not great, but it was so late arriving that I ate it anyway. The second time I had a pork shop and it was pretty good.

Desserts are something this place can improve on.

Overall - not good enough to compete in Whistler.

There are lots of places in Whistler to have a dinner now days and competition has ben fierce. By now we visited most of them and can make a sound observation. The Grill Room as it is now called has a solid atmosphere of an old restaurant in 5 * hotel and does bring you back at least 20 - 30 years, when having a big space, high ceiling in wood, and warm fireplace was not replaced by modern design. The overall atmosphere could use a bit more personality, but it works overall, and the glass private room in the winter is a gem. The service is impeccable and friendly enough not to feel overstuffed and posh, a great balance of sophistication and family pleasant place. The food is simple but simply great in execution, rack of venison just perfect, tomato soup at the table is superb show and taste, veal chop - perfect execution of medium with nice char on the top, very few places are capable of delivering such great grill dishes, with perfect large size portions, and then you have truffle (mountain of truffle) on a 8 dollar side dish mash potato - absolutely to die for. Vine selection is excellent and deserts were not impressive. Overall if you want to spent money on great family dinner or impress friends coming over or special family occasion - it is a place. By the way the Prime rib sandwich in the bar at the hotel is to die for, never seen anything like it.

The first time we went the food was good we booked for a second evening. Only to find out on the night of our booking that the restuarant had been taken over. it was only when we wanted to make a complaint was the restuarant manager interested in trying to offer a meal in their other lower standard restuarant the wild flower...Appears only interested in money not the clients who go back year after year
