“Don't Steak your dinner on it”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2013

We were visiting Vernon in early March. I had done a little research on restaurants. I then made dinner reservations, for us, at the Phoenix Steakhouse. Good central location off the 97 Hwy. Long climb up the stairs to the second floor dining area. A smaller dining area is on the main floor in the lounge. The dining area was fairly small, comfortable, with a choice of tables or a booth. We chose the booth. Very comfortable. Very nice for a more intimate dinner. The staff were very friendly. The lighting was very poor. We literally had to use a flashlight to read our menus. A small candle would have significantly added to the atmosphere and our ability to read our menus. A good selection of appetizers. I ordered a New York steak { we both wanted Ribeye but by 7:30 on Saturday night they had only one left} Two sides were included with the entree. I ordered a Caesar salad and soup. My companion ordered the Ribeye with Crab and mashed potatoes. Additionally she ordered an Escargot appetizer at an additional cost. The Escargot were good. My Asparagus soup came. The container was the size of a small coffee cup. The soup was barely warm. The taste was principally salt. The Caesar salad too was served in the same type small coffee cup. It was mainly stalks. My New York steak came served as a piece of meat served in the centre of a white plate. No garnish. Nothing else at all on the plate. A very poor presentation. My companion was presented with her Ribeye steak with Crab placed on the top, and a lump of mashed potatoes. Again no garnish. Both our steaks were fine, but nothing memorable. My friend believed the Crab had been previously frozen. We're spoiled with so much fresh Crab in Vancouver! A few times during the meal we tried to get the attention of our server. We both felt the service was poor. We each had a glass of pop with our meal No other drinks. We did not have dessert. The cost for our dinner was just over $100.00. We did not feel that neither the surroundings, the food, or the service were worth the extraordinarily high price charged. We would not recommend this restaurant.

“Great food!”

Food was fresh, hot, tasty! Atmosphere was great. To bad they pick their servers by young skinny and pretty instead of actual good serving!

Done just the way you like your steak.....a good variety of cuts and sizes makes your dinner one which leaves you quite full when finished.

“Just Your Average Quality Place”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 7, 2013

Everything here is what you'd find in a great place: a funky old building opened up for tables and lounges, a neon-lit bar decorated with beautiful people, high quality steaks, a better-than-average wine list, a varied menu of attractively presented dishes, doting staff ... and yet it doesn't sparkle. The building is just a bit bare, the upstairs bar is just a bit in the way of the door, the steaks are tender but not more than average in flavour, the mussels didn't come with a second bowl, the bread is what you'd expect at Earls, the staff are helpful and knowledgeable but not quite as sophisticated as they try to be, the staff dress code is stretching for it and ... rice pilaf? Hunh? Why, it's 1977. The wine is good, and fresh, which is rare for a by-the-glass arrangement, and generously poured. Do give it a try, but it's not a place for an intimate dinner. Go with a crowd.
