“Wonderful food. Excellent value. Relaxed atmosphere.”
Reviewed November 30, 2013 via mobile

We enjoyed several dishes in this small unpretentious restaurant. The Pho was delicious, as was the seafood and vegetarian dishes. The cold rolls were fabulous.

Dinner for 3 with drinks & tip was under $60.

“Sizzling Hot and Hit the Spot!”
Reviewed October 19, 2013

My daughter and I were in Victoria for one night and she was craving a Vietnamese meal before her return to Nairobi, Kenya, We found "Kim's Vietnamese" recommended on tripadvisor.ca which was near our hotel.

The place did not disappoint. As soon as we were seated, we got menus, and a pot of green tea and two cups. The server was helpful with gluten-free information. We ordered two dishes containing seafood; garlic prawns with red/green peppers, onions, and crispy tofu with squid, mussels, prawns and fish. Both were served with rice. The prawns were skillet-prepared and arrived sizzling hot.

We shared and were delighted with the flavour, freshness and presentation of our meal. It was definitely what we wanted and we were so pleased we chose this eatery.

“Wonderful Take Out!”
Reviewed September 24, 2013

Four of us were visiting Victoria for four days. We were renting a VRBO right next to Kim's so it was unanimous "Vietnamese Take Out", what a great decision. We all ordered different items, and were so pleased with the flavors. YUM YUM!

“Amazing all around!”
Reviewed August 8, 2013

We were on vacation from Calgary and found this little gem walking up Johnson street. I must say in is alittle hidden but everything we had was fresh and delicious.

From precious reviews i can see why the salad rolls are so highly recommended made fresh and the peanut sauce was best I ever had.
We also had the Rock Cod fish and the papaya salad all in all everything was absolutely amazing.

The service there is a Caucasian girl working the front which is unusual for a Vietnamese place but she was family I'm guessing and was a delight and very attentive.
Thank you Kim's for the wonderful food and service!

“Not great”
Reviewed August 4, 2013

We were staying overnight in Victoria and wanted to find a restaurant with good food, so we checked TripAdvisor (and other) sources. We were hoping to find a place near our hotel (Hotel Rialto) and it was Monday so a lot of restaurants were closed. But we found Kim's with the Excellent reviews, and walked there. The neighborhood is a bit sketchy, and the restaurant itself is small and plain with a few Vietnam-esque posters or art on the walls. We were the only diners, although there were some take-out orders and another couple came in just after we finished.

We started with Goi Cuon (spring rolls) with extra peanut sauce ($0.75 more). We shared one and decided to have the other two to go. They were generously-sized, but the lettuce was iceberg and not cut so that it dispersed, but formed a nucleus of lettuce within the spring roll. The shrimp was OK; they were sliced to present an appearance of the spring roll having more shrimp than it actually contained. Maybe one shrimp per roll, in total. I didn't notice anything off, like another reviewer, about the pork, but neither was there sufficient pork present to really taste. Can't understand some reviewers' praise for this.

For entrees we had their squid and a braised short rib beef special. Both entrees were hugely salty; especially the beef. I think it had been marinated in soy sauce. It was cut thin, too, so the salt had fully penetrated. Another reviewer had praised the squid as being tender, which they were, but so salty! Both entrees must have had some other vegetables which we couldn't taste, and a brown sauce which was suspiciously similar (and salty) for each. Rice didn't really help mitigate things. We avoided dessert

I'm reluctant to tell others not to go to a restaurant because I know it's hard to prepare consistently good food for a variable clientele, but based on our experience, can't recommend Kim's unless you're desperate for Vietnam fare. It wasn't particularly inexpensive, either.

As it turned out, we discovered many other restaurants open on Monday in the nearby Chinatown. Seek out those, is my suggestion.
