While new restaurants and lounges appear in Victoria regularly, The Bengal Lounge is a favorite of residents and visitors alike. Overlooking our stately gardens, the richly appointed Bengal Lounge offers not only a delicious curry lunch and dinner buffet but also an impressive international a la carte menu. Cocktail and martini aficionados will appreciate our vast selection of signature drinks. The Bengal Lounge is a licensed lounge and all guest must be 19 or older.

“A Taste of Colonial India”
Reviewed July 5, 2013

As someone who can nitpick every minor detail of every restaurant he has ever visited, I cannot think of one feature of The Bengal Lounge I did not enjoy. The Indian food was very good (and this is coming from an Indian), the seating and the ambience was very comfortable and inviting (it did not feel like a restaurant), and the service was very attentive and thoughtful (had a wonderful conversation with Wade, our waiter, regarding the best places for wine tasting). I would like to point out that in keeping with the climate of the Bengal Lounge, I would recommend it for adults only, and not families with small children. This was absolutely a great dining experience in Victoria and will definitely return.

“Great cocktail lounge”
Reviewed July 4, 2013

Stopped by the Bengal Lounge for a late night cocktail, and so glad we did! Really appreciated the fantastic seating - Plenty of tables and sofas and plush chairs that made this lounge feel more like a comfortable large living room. A great band was playing in the corner adding a very special vibe to the room. Plus the "old world" art and woodwork added the feeling we indeed had stepped into someplace magical. We ordered one of their speciality coffee drinks (not cheap but expected price point from an historic hotel) and it was truely delicious. Plus, our server was so very nice and informative. A perfect ending to our evening.

“Good Food,Old World Charm”
Reviewed July 3, 2013

I have been to the Bengal Lounge a few times over the years, and have ever been disappointed.

The food is good - perhaps not 5 star worthy for everything, but still very good, and properly made. When I say "properly", I mean that they actually make the dishes as opposed to a great many lounges and pubs where a good portion of what is served has a pre-fabricated appearance and taste. My preference here is for one of the curries. Ask about the dishes; if there is anything made with locally grown produce, give it a try.

The real reason one goes to the Bengal Lounge is the ambience. I have been to Raffles Long Bar in Singapore, The Counting House in London and other old bars that strive to get the feel of a bygone era just right. The Bengal Lounge succeeds in this wonderfully (and Victoria's climate is much more moderate than Signapore's which helps).

The service has always been impeccable. Oh, and for gin drinkers, the bartender knew what a pink gin was...I did not have to explain....just too bad Plymouth Gin is not available in British Columbia anymore.

We stopped here for a mid afternoon drink at the bar. 25$ for beer/drink, which was expected, beautiful interior! wasnt impressed w the bartender who was overly impressed w/ himself. you do not answer a question w/ the question. the food looked ok, pricey, so many more better places to eat. ok to do it once, though. We walked around, very old, beautiful hotel..but very$$$!!

“excellent food”
Reviewed July 1, 2013

I always try to visit the Bengal room to have lunch whenever I am in Victoria and the buffet continues to be very tasty and worth the visit. My only disappointment this time was the service was very slow. We felt that they were understaffed. This has never been an issue in the past so I am hoping it was a one time only mishap. I still recommend this place the ambiance is very attractive.
