Description: Welcome to the Irish Times Pub, where excellent design and authenticity are at the heart of downtown Victoria's BEST IRISH PUB! Located at 1200 Government Street, the Irish Times Pub is home to 190 seats over two floors with 80 seats available on our patios, opening onto both Government Street and historic Bastion Square. Our concept goes far beyond mere architecture though. The Irish Times opened with everything it takes to make a pub successfully Irish, including authentic Live Irish music, 7 nights a week. The tradition of Ireland has also been extended to our menu, which has been developed on a philosophy of creating traditional Irish food and drink that is both contemporary and funky, showcasing Irish Pub Food as you would see in Ireland today.

We came here on a short visit from a cruise ship. The local beer selection was very good, and the service at the bar good, even though the bar was very busy. There was a live band playing that night, and they were really excellent. I would definitely recommend if you are looking for a fun place to have a few beers in the heart of the city.

Visited this pub during a short visit to Victoria on a cruise ship. We wanted to have a few beers at a few pubs in the district before having to return to the ship at 11pm. We were kind of scoffed at for asking for a Molson and a Blue, so we tried 4 different microbrews suggested by the bartender. They were good, but not nearly $10 good. We opted not to eat there after seeing the prices of the entrees vs. the sizes of them. We didn't know how much the beers were until the bill came and we nearly fell off the bar stools. Seriously. Had we known they'd be that much, we'd have found a 7-11 and got a case of beer! Overall, the atmosphere is pretty, a little dark, and it got louder the longer we sat, but I would not come here again because of the prices of the drinks.

Was downtown with the family (2 adult kids) and my son suggested we try this place for dinner. It is right in the main tourist district and the building and restaurant look stunning.

Unfortunately, that's about the only good thing I can find to say about it. We were seated in a dark hole in the back of the place, constantly bumped by patrons and staff walking by. They have a huge selection of drinks on tap - most were upwards of $8, although on the Thursday night we were there there were three draft beers on special for $6. Everyone had burgers, but I felt adventurous and tried what was advertised as the best chicken curry in town.

Fries were good, burgers cold and average, curry had none of the subtle flavours one would expect. It was steaming hot, but very heavily spiced. Room was too dark to see what was in it, but I suspect that very little chicken graced the hot sauce on rice.

I get that you pay for atmosphere and location, but somehow I find $100 for burgers and one drink for four to be a bit pricy. Tourists would probably love it, but I'm a local that won't be back.

The Irish Times has to be the most overpriced pub in the city, though it is only one in a chain of them (same ownership I believe for the Bard and Banker and the Penny Farthing). If you're sucked in here by the promise of an authentic Irish pub, prepare to be a little disappointed. My husband and I have been to Ireland twice now, and to many a pub, and the Irish Times is lacking somewhat. It has a gorgeous interior, but the atmosphere is lacking when top 40 music is playing over the speakers. And yes, pints are about $8 bucks a pop. Two pints plus a tip ends up being about $20...ridiculous. On the plus side, their tap selection is good, though not as good as it used to be. Like most Island pubs, they've gone with trends and now sport so many cruddy "craft" beers that the imports that one would go to a pub like this for have been phased out somewhat. The food, like the beer, is also ridiculously overpriced, and honestly nothing special.
The best aspect about this place is that they serve Magners (Bulmers) Irish Cider- but prepare for your wallet to suffer if you're a fan of it, as it's about $10 a pint. It's not a terrible pub by any means, but far too expensive for what it is.
