Description: Stage is a small-plate restaurant and wine bar located across from the Belfry Theatre in Victoria's trendy Fernwood neighbourhood. Stage supports local farmers, food artisans, and serves a variety of tapas-style dinner offerings. Options range from duck confit and crispy chicken to made-in-house sausage, vegetarian dishes and the city's largest cheese selection. The 55 seat restaurant's vibe is upbeat and funky while maintaining a classy and unique feel. Brick walls, reclaimed hardwood floors, hanging candles, and rotating local art, all combine to create a truly local Victoria experience. Stage has also won several awards including Top 10 new restaurant in 2005 by En Route Magazine, Restaurant of the Year by Vancouver Magazine, and a Silver Medal at the 2013 and 2014 Vancouver International Wine Festival."Winning over patrons from Fernwood and beyond"! - N.Y. I have been to Stage twice. Once for a staff party about two years ago....we were treated like royalty!!! Prosecco to start...12 or more different small plate courses...wine...3 desserts...best meal of my life by far!
The second time was more recently in summer of 2013. Went with a group of 8 from work. We had a fabulous time sharing an amazing meal. Everything we ordered was more delicious then the last. Cocktails were to die for. Plates were brought out in a timely matter and our server was great.
Can't wait to go back!

What can I say...I'm obviously one of those few who had just a totally average experience in what I use to know as a fabulous restaurant...granted it's been a couple of years since my last visit but I still went in with those same high expectations that they had met many many times before...needless to say I and the rest of our table were let down...small portions considering the steep price and although most of the dishes we ordered were decent in flavor the one that we were most anticipating was the biggest letdown...the duck confit...ya, BIG letdown...the service was fine and the ambience is wonderful but overall a let down considering the type of dining experience we were expecting and had many times in the past...and on another note...why cheap brown "fast food" type of paper napkins...really...really...sorry but I just feel for the type of dining experience you're expected to enjoy a cloth napkin is somewhat of a standard in my books...the owner did come to explain his reasons as to why they don't use cloth napkins which...fine...I understand environmental concerns and small business costs but at least find a decent paper napkin which suits the type of dining you're offering...anyway, what can I say...we definitely will NOT return as there are so many wonderful restaurants in this fine city which offer both flavor and portion...and cloth napkins ;-)

We loved everything about Stage. The atmosphere, the knowledgeable staff, and the food was outstanding. Everything is made in-house and it shows. Each dish is unique but the one that really stood out was the gnocchi. The wine list is excellent and we enjoyed a lovely B.C. wine that we can't get out of province. Take a walk around the neighbourhood as well. Charming!

First visit but will not be the last. We came with a regular and treated to some excellent service and some exception food. It is a small plates wine bar; three pages of drinks and one of tapas. A drink and two tapas each was enough for us. The House made sausage was terrific; especially the Lamb merguez sausage with almond hummus and pepper fennel relish. Full of flavour! The Langos fried bread is light, and very good. The four of us shared an order of the Langos bites with creme fraiche and rum caramel...two pieces each! Rich but really good. The establishment is small, but very comfortable. Prices are a bit steep but the food is worth it. We will be back to try the other great looking dishes.
