“Stunning views and great food”
Reviewed October 29, 2013 via mobile

The food was delicious and the night view stunning over the city and water. The only complaint I had was that when my friend tried to substitute quinoa for potatoes he was chastised over it for quite some time saying "the chef expects you to have it with quinoa as its his creation." It made my guest feel very uncomfortable and seemed like the waiter was making him feel bad for choosing something different almost trying to challenge him. Never seen that before in any fancy restaurant. Nonetheless our meals were delicious potatoes and all and we had a great night. I did not find the prices too expensive for the meals or wine bottles except for the desserts.

“Vista 18 has Great View but Mediocre Food.”
Reviewed October 21, 2013

We've eaten at Vista 18 on the 18th floor of the Chateau Victoria Hotel twice in the past month. The view was lovely once but the second time it was foggy so we couldn't see much. Be sure if you're going for the view, that it's a clear day.

About the food: the Halibut was dry (overcooked) and the Bison was a bit tough and dry. The vegetables were all tasty. We also found the prices too high for the quality of the food. In short, I'd recommend this place only for the view, perhaps just go for a drink.

“Excellent Breakfast”
Reviewed October 17, 2013

Love coming here for Breakfast! The staff are warm and welcoming and attentive without hanging over you. Food is good, fresh and wonderfully plated. I certainly recommend this for breakfast - and it's great at night for cocktails and dinner too, though it is pricey for dinner!

“Great Views, Slightly Disappointing Cuisine”
Reviewed September 11, 2013

I hate to be a "Gloomy Gus" but there you go: this is still another restaurant that has great reviews from some of the other visitors, but my experience was pretty ordinary. Here's the story:

My wife and I visited Vista 18 based on a recommendation from the staff at the Marriott across the street. The restaurant is on top of the slightly worn Chateau Victoria Hotel. The lobby is tired, elevator is located awkwardly, and it has seen better days -- perhaps they were using it for freight and such. A re-boot for the Chateau clearly is required.

Once you arrive on the 18th floor, the restaurant looks fine, although "brown" is the color scheme and maybe it looks better after sunset. The restaurant winds around the inner core of the building, providing exciting views in almost every direction. Since we arrived before the evening rush, we got a corner table overlooking the harbor which was good fun. The server was busy, setting tables and tidying the area, so we waited a while for our drinks and then eventually our light meal. My wife ordered a soup, but it arrived cold. My meal was tasty but nothing inspired. (We're not big meat-eaters, so I can't speak the wonderful filet mignon other reviewers enjoyed.) The price, as you might expect, did not reflect this humble performance: food is expensive in Canada, and this one was our single most expensive meal of the trip, and that's without wine. So overall, I'd have to say this is great location that needs better management -- spruce up the dining room; kick it up a notch with the kitchen, and spend some time supervising the servers so they realize it is the patrons who pay the bills.

“Consistently good”
Reviewed September 5, 2013

I've now had breakfast, lunch and dinner at Vista 18 and would go back again - mostly for the view (wow), then the quiet ambiance (ahhh), then the food (which is always good, but pricey), then the service (which can be spotty). Last night though, Michelle was our server and she was wonderful - light hearted, enthusiastic and helpful but not intrusive.
