“One waiter...”
Reviewed July 13, 2013

Staying at the guesthouse we decided on the short walk to the pub. We were seated inside beside a window at a table for two. There were flies on the window beside us, and we quickly realized that there was one person serving the whole restaurant. The service was good despite the fact that he seemed to be running in three directions at once. The food was 'okay' but portions were far from generous. Like the guesthouse we failed to see the value for our dollar.

“New menu”
Reviewed July 7, 2013 via mobile

We love going to Spinnakers for dinner. My boyfriend absolutely loves the pot pie and I usually ordered my favourite dish the salt spring island shiitake pasta dish. I was craving it one night so we decided to go only to find out that they changed the menu and took all the pasta dishes off the menu. A real let down for me. They now only feature one pasta dish but for people who cannot eat seafood when it features a seafood pasta just doesn't cut it for the pasta lover. I understand it is a brewpub and thats not their specialty but they had a wonderful pasta dish! Please bring it back!

“Great Atomosphere, good food and a view that's superb”
Reviewed July 4, 2013

Spinnakers is a great place to come for classic pub food and beer (or wine) but what really makes it stand out is the atmosphere in the restaurant and the views from the patio. I recommend you make reservations and leave a minimum of 2 hours for your meal. The idea is to relax and visit during the meal so I wouldn't call the service fast. If you are staying around the inner harbour, a really neat idea is to take the water taxi over to the restaurant. Just tell them you want to go to Spinnakers. It is about $5 per person each way. (note: there is a 3 minute walk on a paved path with a slight incline to get up to the restaurant so maybe leave 30 minutes before your reservation to get the water taxi and then walk) Also take a jacket as the wind blows off the water and some people on the patio were heading indoors because they were getting chilled.

The pulled pork nacho appetizer (individual size) worked for the 3 of us to share as a starter. It was really good. Everyone had the fish and chips and thought the fish portion was a good size but it was the fries that won us over. Leave room for the white chocolate cheesecake; it is well-worth it. Another cool thing about this restaurant is that their menu is designed around locally sourced and ethically produced products.

“Just an ok experience”
Reviewed July 4, 2013

Spinnakers does some things well - Excellent window views of the water, Parking lot (an advantage downtown), Interesting beers, Good appetizers. And other things are average at best - Very warm when the sunset is beaming in, Poor acoustics so always loud, Inconsistentency in menu items (some quite tasty and others bland). Of course, the night we arrived started off badly when they did not have our reservation even after calling in advance to reconfirm (Thank goodness had printed and carried the confirmation email). Did not hate our experience here, but with so many wonderful dining options in Victoria, it is hard to recommend either.

“What you expect from a microbrew pub...”
Reviewed July 3, 2013

...but with better "pub food" selections and interesting beers. Some were downright delicious, such as the Titanic Stout, but their beer cocktails were weird (ok, fair enough, some people think beer cocktails are just plain weird, but the right ones are divine... like the Black & Tini at Irish Times Pub *wow*). The food is sea and meat focused, but there is the odd veg option (must like mushrooms?). The veggie burg (which is one of my indicators of a 'good' restaurant) was okay; a bit bland and mushy and mostly uninspired. Sweet potatoe fries were very well done and shouldn't have been served, but I wasn't that hungry anyway. Others reported their meals were "okay" and "pretty good" and one "alright, but I'm still hungry". Will go back for the views and atmosphere, but know what to expect. Oh, and we had to wait over an hour on a Friday in June, which is also to be expected.
