“Charming, but once is enough per stay.”
Reviewed September 8, 2012

With all the fantastic restaurants within 10 minutes walk of the Empress the charming but stodgy Empress Room is worth the experience as a destination, but the breakfast buffet is pricey and limited and the decor and 'fit' more like your ancient Auntie's sitting room if you like that kind of thing on a regular/daily basis.

“Tea or Champagne? Why not both!”
Reviewed September 4, 2012

Dress well and request a window seat. Expensive at $60 each, but our request for more sandwiches and less sweets made it a meal, as they brought an extra plate of sandwiches, and they did a good job of accommodating my friend's no gluten diet. (Submit special requests the night before.) Starts with a bowl of ripe local strawberries and freshly whipped cream, which called for champagne, of course. The three tiers of sandwiches and sweets were delicious and all we needed to head off to the Buchart Gardens and the ferry to Vancouver-don't miss the gardens!

Walking through the hotel was fantastic. We were able to find perfect seating by the fireplace to enjoy a cocktail. Very impressive woodwork and decor.

“The Great and the not so Great”
Reviewed September 2, 2012

I love the grandness of the Empress Room. The service was stately, but he forgot part of our order, and I asked to have my eggs well done, but they came almost raw. By the time our waiter came to ask how every thing was my husband was done eating, and we did not have time to wait for an exchange order. Most likely this was just an unfortunate experience, but I hate paying top price for food I could not enjoy.

Fantastic food and great service.... This was one of the best meals that we had on our recent trip to Canada.. Fine dining, a very enjoyable experience... also the waiter was attentive without being intrusive and is credit to the hotel....also my wife was blown away by the signature chocolate dessert which she states is a must to try if you like chocolate...
