We wanted to have a Chinese dinner and this was one of the restaurant the hotel recommended.
We were a group of 7 and opted to order individual dishes and share instead of ordering the fixed menu. I ordered the hot and sour soup. I have tasted hot and sour soup in a lot of Chinese restaurant, I was not happy with this one. There was no spice to it. What we like most is their roasted duck. The skin was crunchy and duck meat was tender. Their serving portions are large.
I would say I have had better Chinese food than this, but overall, it was okay.

So Chinatown is practically just a block in Victoria and can be somewhat of a let-down...however, Don Mee helps redeem the Chinatown experience with its wonderful selection of Dim Sum. We were seated, served, and filled up with deliciousness immediately. Thank you for a great Chinese experience in British Columbia!

The restaurant could use some updating and a good scrubbing. Got the feeling they preferred their Chinese clients.

We just had 4 dishes between two couples but it was not easy to finish except that the food is always so good it is hard to stop eating.
The Dim Sum at lunch is always a standout and i highly recommend going at lunch.
The dining room is spacious but always relatively full. It has authentic Chinese food and I have never had a bad meal in the 20 or so times i've been there.

We'd heard good things about Don Mee but came away feeling it was really only average. It's a walk-up location that opens into a nearly banquet hall sized space that reminded me, favorably, of restaurants I visited in China years ago. We were having an early dinner, so the service was quite prompt and efficient. We ordered the Duck Lo Hon Style and the 5-Spice Spareribs. It was "different" to have to order, and buy, rice as a separate item. Although that's customary in China, it's uncommon in the US. The duck was quite good, served over a bed of mushrooms, fresh baby bok choy and other vegetables; not greasy and very tender. The "spareribs" were actually sliced pork chops, with a crisp batter, and fried; kind of tough and served without any vegetables. Portions were large, so we had a doggy bag prepared. In just a few blocks, we noticed the bag was dripping, probably the gravy from the duck. We had to toss the leftovers, as we were going in and out of stores. So much for the midnight snack.... To sum up, we'll probably try some other Chinese restaurants (several in the area) the next time we're in Victoria.
