I was lucky enough to head out at 2:30pm on the 19th of October. It was an overcast and pretty grey looking day so I was a little bit concerned about visibility and the amount of active wildlife. I really shouldn't have been concerned and I still remember the excitement that I felt upon seeing the 'humpback whales spotted today' sign at the front desk.

We arrived at 2pm and hit the water at probably 2:40. The crew were very clear with directions and made sure that we were properly prepared for the freezing cold. We were given pants, gloves, sunglasses and a jacket to use, which was really helpful. There were also blankets available on the boat, which by the end of the trip I had to use.

Once heading out, we narrowed in on a few humpbacks, that showed off their tails to us constantly. Our driver, Jeff, seemed really experienced and was able to predict the path of the whales and get us in close each time they came to the surface. It was also nice to see the tour companies working together to make sure that the maximum amount of wildlife was seen.
After our first few humpbacks, we headed over to another group, before speeding off to the lighthouse to see the seals. All the while, we were given some great information about each animal we saw and brought in close to get some great snaps. After heading over to Secretary Island and seeing some eagles, we headed back to shore.

Initially, both myself and my auntie were a bit concerned about how much time we would actually get out on the water. We not only had heaps of time but actually more than expected, as we arrived back at about 6:20. It was really great for the company to have hot chocolates waiting for us to sip on before leaving.

Overall, I was thrilled with this experience! As this was a gift for my auntie, I was so happy to have everything go so well. Both her and I have promised to do this again if we are ever in Victoria as it was a brilliant experience!

Thank you for booking with Eagle Wing It sounds like both you and your aunt truly enjoyed your extended time with us. That is a perk of travelling with Eagle Wing, we always extend the tour as long as everyone on board is OK with it and there are more things to see and experience. As all our boats are open, we do supply all the necessary clothing and extras to keep you warm but yes it is always cooler on the water and come fall, colder than most people think. So glad we were able to meet your expectation and please do return and lets head out and find those elusive Orcas.

Had the most Orcasmic adventure with Jeff and Val today. Had orcas under the boat and so close we could almost touch them. Saw pods, breaches, spy hopping, tail flapping even chasing big salmon under the boat and literally fins wherever you looked. Lots of info given in plain English and Canadian. We were all well looked after and felt so special to be able to be shown these amazing creatures that normally we only see on the tv. Jeff was a marvel with the boat by keeping us close enough to see but not so close as to disturb them when the engine was on. He would maneuver the boat to be in possition for the wales to come to us and switch off. We saw the most amazing displays as we watched the super pod for several hours. The super pod is when the 3 resident pods all come together and it felt like we must have seen all 82 of them as Jeff and Val kept telling us the different names. Val was extremely knowledgeable and always asking us if we had any questions which she instantly answered in full with a zeal that showed her love for the wales and their surroundings. They certainly took great care of us all and even supplied hot chocolate to warm us up at the end. Thank you to Eagle Wing for making this such a special day and one we will never forget.

It was a magical day indeed and I am sure that the memories will last a lifetime. BUT, lets not wait, lets do it again the next time you come to Victoria. Repeat visitors get a special rate and both Jeff and Val would love to do it all over again. Having the opportunity to show our visitors what we do and love doing every day is special for us and by all accounts we more than met your expectations. Thank you for booking with Eagle Wing and thank you for your fantastic review.

It was our second whale watching tour during our trip on Vancouver Island. It was a beautiful day and there were two boats of the company going out to see wildlife. We saw a couple of humpbacks, seals, birds, etc - but unfortunately no black and whites.

We were picked up at the hotel and brought to the harbour. After a short introduction we were given clothing, gloves, etc. - the red jacket was at the same time the life jacket. During the introduction it was mentioned that the boats have a greater area where they can move to within the same time (this was also shown on the map left to their office).

We noted that this might be a marketing advantage but only as long as the animals swim outside this area. Our trip was still within the reach of all other (competitor) boats.

The guide was very knowledgeable and moved and turned the boat in all positions to allow everyone sight of the various humpbacks.

Yes that day we did not have any reports of Orcas but if we had and they were outside other boats range you can count on Eagle Wing getting to them. We even checked with Vancouver and they had no Orcas and had to content with no whales at all. Your day was a good day and we know its is the Orcas that most people want to see but having the opportunity to spent time with Humpbacks, who are making an amazing recovery in the area is something to behold as well. Thank you for booking with us and for writing your review. Hope you get the opportunity to visit Victoria again at some point and lets try it again.

Great Guides, Jeff and Derek, very knowledgeable and passionate about giving you the best whale watching tour. They give the longest tour for the same price. Jeff has been doing this for 19 years and it shows. He had a gut feeling to head west and found a pod of 22 Orcas. We followed them for a couple of hours, then he coordinated with another boat to find Humpback Whales. 15 minutes later we were speeding across the water at 40mph+ in pursuit of the Humpback Whales. Found them and followed a Mom and calf. Great day, lots of sunshine, smooth seas, lots of whales, could not have been better. Highly recommended. Best Tour out there.

What a great day on the Salish Sea. Orcas and Humpbacks with a calf - wow. Being out with Jeff and Derek is truly special, they both are very passionate about what they do and it shows. I know they read all reviews and thank you from them both. Being an Islander and getting such a great review is special for us and we know you had a choice and look forward having you join us again soon.

This trip really is worth every penny. We were surrounded by big groups of orcas and saw humpback whales diving into the sunset. Getting that close to these beautiful creatures really is an unforgettable experience. The staff was all very friendly and helpful and our guide gave us tons of information about the whales, about their ages, their families, their social life, everything. Our trip was planned to be 3.5 hours but in the end we spent more than four hours on the water to see an awesome sunset and to watch some seals and see lions splashing in the water. The boat we were in was really comfy and fast which was a lot of fun :D when we came back we were all very cold because of the frosty winds on the water and they had a hot chocolate ready for all of us, perfect!
Seriously, this is one of the greatest experiences you'll ever have!!

Whale watching is a great experience and your review is most appreciated. We love what we do and having the time to share our passion is something each and everyone at Eagle Wing does day in and day out. There are other whale watching companies in Vancouver and Victoria but from Victoria passengers have the best chance of experiencing what you experienced. Thank you and hope to have you back on the Island again. Just let us know that you have booked with us before and you will get a repeat guest rate.
