I was on the April 17, 2013 Wildlife tour. Wasn't expecting to see whales, but Jeff the captain heard of three closer to Vancouver. Off we went, and it was so exciting! We were the only boat from Victoria; most were from the US or Vancouver as this was pretty far from home port. On the way back we stopped to see harbour seals.

We were gone for almost four hours, and only returned when we did as several passengers needed to catch a plane. Jeff and Val were very knowledgable and professional, and the boat was fast.

I definitely recommend Eagle Wing and will do the same with them next time I'm in Victoria.

Your review was more than we expect and we thank you for your very kind comments. We think that Eagle Wing is the best in Victoria and having our valued passangers make those comments just reinforces our desire to do more, try harder and go farther. Yes, Jeff and Val are some of the best in the industry and we are fortunate to have them at Eagle Wing doing what they do best - meeting and even exceeding expectations. Your trip was one fo those special days at this time of the year when we can find orcas rewgardless of how far they are from Victoria and we know that your memories of that day will stay with you for a long long time. Thanks for allowing Eagle Wing to be of service and we thank you for helping us spread the word.

The staff/crew were all fabulous - when we booked, picking us up from our hotel, getting us ready and rugged up (including all the gear in kids sizes), and especially during the tour. We had prepared ourselves for not seeing killer whales since it wasn't the best time of year, and we weren't tooooo disappointed when we were told there hadn't been any sightings since the previous afternoon. We knew we'd still get to see lots of other interesting wildlife (and had already been thrilled to see the seals at the wharf, on the way to the toilets).

The boat was fun - it was the first time we'd taken the kids on a small, fast, open boat, and they chose to sit up the front because it's bumpier there (usually). On this day, though, the sea was completely calm and it was a perfect afternoon. Just as we started out, Captain Jeff got The Call - there were killer whales 45 miles away, and off we sped. Eagle Wing Tours emphasise their greater range, and on this day it made all the difference.

We had a long ride at top speed to the whales, and we were the only boat from Victoria out there. Soon we were the only boat there at all, and it was just us and the whales for a good long while. Captain Jeff and Val explained the behaviour of the killer whales - when they were just travelling, and when they were hunting. They told us about the way they hunt different types of prey, identified the pod and gave us its history, told us about the differences between transient and resident killer whales, and much more. We stayed with the whales for as long as possible, speeding back so some of our tour mates wouldn't be late for their next engagement - but still finding a few minutes to stop and look at a bald eagle up close and a colony of seals.

In the end, our 3 hour wildlife tour turned out to be a 4 hour whale watching tour - with a good portion of that time actually spent with the whales. I'm sure the wildlife tour would have been just as fabulous and the crew would have been just as informative. Eagle Wing Tours do everything possible to make sure you have the best experience.

Thank you VERY much for your fantastic review. Jeff is one of our top captains and Val and extraordinary crew member and also our onboard photographer so you could not have picked a better day to head out. Orca sightings at this time of the year are very special because they are very difficult to find but not impossible as your trip points out. Its all about the right people and the right equipment and when selecting Eagle Wing you get both. We are thrilled that we were able to not only meet but hopefully exceed your expectations and look forward to seeing you and your family again one day in the future.

Last week my best friend and I took a wildlife excursion tour through the San Juan Islands, it was a 72 mile round-trip and we saw so much wildlife including Dall's porpoise, sea lions, harbor seals, otters, bald eagles, rams and an array of coastal birds (all wildlife was very close)! It was well worth the rate we paid...our tour guide was very knowledgable and we felt very comfortable on his FAST boat...it was a trip of a lifetime and we will definitely choose this tour again when we return to Victoria!

You will not be disappointed, reserve your space now, you will be glad you did....a trip you'll never forget, EVER!!!!!

Very satisfied.

Thank you so much for your fantastic review of your trip with us. At Eagle Wing we feel that our wildlife tours in the off season are the best they can be and your day on the water proves that out. It would have been a bonus to experience a whale but it sure seems that you got to see eveything else that was around that day. We do hope that you will come back and visit us again and we will do our best to find our beloved orcas or maybe even a humback whale both that can be found in our waters between April and November. Thanks again

My son and I were in Victoria for part of our March Break. We had hoped that a vessel would be available for a nature tour. I am so glad we called Eagle Wing Tours! From speaking with a gentleman in the morning on the phone to find out about the possibility of going out on the water that day, to having him call me back right on time, to the pick-up at our hotel, to the tour itself, Eagle Wing was top-notch!

Luckily, the waters were calm and there were enough people to go out for a trip. We were picked up and driven to the wharf, suited up with warm jackets, pants, hats, gloves, sunglasses, and blankets; everything was supplied. We went out in a very powerful speedboat (a scarab?), which was very comfortable and very 'open-air', so that we felt very close to the ocean in the best possible way. The sights and the smells of the harbour were wonderful. And then the boat started to really move! It was exhilarating.

The captain of the boat had been made aware of a killer whale sighting much earlier in the day. Captain Jeff was determined to find the pod of whales for our tour. On our way out to sea, we saw a huge Steller sea lion. It was amazing. I know we were all hoping we would see some killer whales but we knew that during this time of year it was very rare to see them. But Jeff was determined and he never gave up, finally we spotted them off the left side of the boat! A pod of transient killer whales and Jeff could identify them by looking at their markings on the dorsal fins. Again I couldn't believe how lucky we were to see these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat and to see them at this time of year. We switched off the boat for a while and just watched the magnificence of the animals; it was quiet, it was beautiful and it was one of the best experiences I've ever had.

Jeff and the other biologist on board seemed just as excited as we were even though they have seen the whales many many times before. Their enthusiasm was still evident and Jeff gave us a large amount of information about the biology of whales and told us so much about them, which was fantastic. He could answer any question. There were seven whales in the pod we watched. Wonderful!

It was also nice, on the way back to stop at an island to see the Steller sea lions and the harbor seals and bald eagles. As an added bonus on our way back into harbour, Jeff spotted a sea otter which he said was extremely rare to see in the wild. We kept getting very lucky that day!

I would highly recommend this tour through Eagle Wing to anyone. The staff was incredible, the boat ride was great, it was comfortable and they were all prepared. We were well over three hours in the ocean and on the ocean and it was definitely a highlight of our trip!

Thanks to the staff at Eagle Wing and to Mother Nature for making our trip such a blast!

WOW - You did have a frantastic day considering the time of the year. Getting a chance to see whales, sea lions and an otter are an amazing day on the water. Jeff is one of the best and at Eagle Wing going that extra mile to give our valued guests the experience they were seeking is the most important part of our job both on the water and on land. I am sure that the educational part of your day will last a life time and that is what we are looking for. Making everyones expectations the best they can be. Thank you for letting Eagle Wing Tours be your guide and we hope to see you both again in the near future.

We took our trip on March 27 at 2 PM. My wife and I had been looking forward to our whale watching trip since we booked it weeks ago. We knew also that this was not prime season for viewing whales but we were hopeful. Although we didn't see any whales our guide Chris made the trip fun with the high speed and his knowledge.

To top the whole trip off, when we returned to port my wife and I were pretty much frozen from the wind during the trip. We were dreading having to take a water taxi or walking back to our hotel. Chris notice this and was kind enough to offer us a ride back to our hotel!

Great service top to bottom and the experience is made fun whether you see whales or not!

We are so pleased that you enjoyed your time with us and yes, Chris is an excellent captain and he as will all our employees do what they can to make everyones visit to Victoria memorable. As you stated, the off season is a bit tricky when it comes to finding Orcas but by the sounds of things it was a fun tour even thouigh it was cold. At Eagle Wing we do supply warm jackets, pants, gloves and a toque (knit hat to our American friends) but still the air is chilly and with our fast open boats we get around quickly and make it a refreshing tour to say the least. Thank you again for choosing Eagle Wing and we hope to have you back again one day (when it's warmer) and we will find the whales.
