My friend and I went Whale watching with the prince of Wales company. We went on the Zodiac which was fun but if you suffer from back or neck problems I would recommend using one off their other boats. Our trip was on the 14th July which we were on the 11 o clock trip. The trip takes around 3 hours. The company provide life suits and hats and gloves which I recommend you wear the gloves and hats due to being out in the middle off the ocean and it gets very cold. Our guide explained all about the boat and that every trip was different, he said that the front off the boat gets very bumpy whilst the back doesn’t suffer the force so much. Once out in the ocean we managed to spot an hump back whales and a raft off sea lions nesting on some rocks. An enjoyable experience was had.

Hello Melmo,

Thank you so much for choosing us to take your whale watching tour with. How fantastic that you got to see Humpbacks as well as Sea Lions nesting on rocks.

It certainly does get cold out on the open water, whatever the weather but we do provide all weather exposure Mustang suits as well as hats, gloves and goggles.

We would love to have you join us on another tour in future the next time you are in Victoria!

Did the Ultimate Day Trip to Victoria, very well organised and the staff were professional, friendly and passionate about the wildlife. We saw humpbacks on the way to Vancouver Island and spent a lovely afternoon at Butchart Gardens. The bus stops right outside of the Fairmont Empress so we had lunch there, however there are plenty of lunch options in the area. The 2.00pm bus gave us sufficient time at the gardens before our 4.15pm pick up. On the way home, our crew was in contact with other boats - there had been no orcas spotted south, so our crew decided to take a different route home to try the northern waters. Sure enough, we spotted a small pod of orcas just before reaching Vancouver. Very impressed with the crew Anthony, Sandy, James and Amy, what a great day out!

28th June
Practically had to step over a Harbour Seal to get into the tour boat, the vessel is obviously an animal magnet. We set off on a calm day with no promises of whale sightings. All the boats in the area are in communication with each other giving the tour every opportunity to view an aquatic creature. Two shy Harbour Porpoise teased us with the briefest of appearances. Then the skipper gives us the nod some boats ahead were already in position. We joined them and the engine was shutdown so as not to disturb the Orcas. Wow, two transit pods (T65a T65b) a total of 16 Orcas what a spectacle. Wow, tail slapping and full breaches they know how to put on a show. The boats are very respectful and maintain a regulated distance as we tracked them, still close enough to see and appreciate these magnificent animals. Our boat was equipped with a hydrophone and the sound of their chatter was played to us over the boats speakers, Wow what a treat. We where very lucky and observe the Orcas for about an hour before we had to move off and head for home. Still buzzing on our way home everyone was on a high. The skipper gives out a cryptic clue and our guide picks up on it straight away. The exhale not obvious at first is spotted and tracked for a short time. The second Grey Whale of the season, another wow! We took nothing for granted we knew we have seen something special on our tour but when the trip guides are moved too and celebrate with each other you know you have had a good experience. Thank you to skipper Aaron and crew we felt safe and comfortable onboard. Impressive trip made even more special by Wilma. Her love for what she does comes over in her commentary, very knowledgeable and passionate. Thank you to the team at Prince of Whales.

First off, I was impressed with the company’s follow through on safety. My husband booked us for the zodiac, but when they learned of his recent operation they insisted we do the bigger boat instead. He still thinks he would have been fine, but I am glad that we didn’t take the chance at their insistence.

We had a great tour, we saw both orcas and humpbacks, which they told us doesn’t happen often. The guides were amazing and very informative. And a big thank you to Lili for sharing her wonderful photos with those of us that are amateurs with the camera - I know I appreciate them!

We had a lovely afternoon with you all out on the water - thank you!

We did the combination whale watching/Buchert Garden tour. The boat was very clean and comfortable. It was a cool, rainy misty day so it had great accommodations for conditions. Staff was knowledgeable and more than happy to meet any need. We saw humpback whales although no orcas. The ride would have been much more enjoyable as far as scenery had the weather cooperated. Easy transfer to the Gatdens with tickets in hand. The gardens were amazing and it was easy to transfer to bus for ride back to Inner Harbor. They offer the Zodiac boat option and we didn’t know which one to do but given the temp and rain, glad we chose the catamaran.
