Wow, what a morning! Albeit a very windswept one!

I was originally booked onto the sunset whale watching trip but due to the weather forecast had to change to the morning trip instead. Austen was our captain, and a great one at that, speeding across the water to where he;d heard there were some orca. And there they were - a pod of around 7/8 of tthem hunting and feeding, and putting on a greeat display for us!

It was amazing to seethese graceful beautiful creatures doing what they do best, without a care for us and to see the majority of boats respect them and keeping their distance (although some of the private boats were not so well behaved!) This is wherer whales beolng and should be seen, not in aquariums.

As well as the whales (which were obviously the highlight!) Austen was great at talking about other points of interest on the trip too.

The whole PoW team of staff were all great and helplful in every way, so would recommend them for any of their tours. Thanks guys!

We did the half day whale watching tour from Victoria on May 28, 2019 (the 12:15 tour). We had an excellent time! We spent a good 20 minutes watching 2 humpbacks near Saturna Island- Heather and Raptor- and they swam right up to our boat! Such an amazing experience. We also saw seals lying on the rocks, a bald eagle, and another humpback made a quick appearance on our way back to Victoria!
I highly recommend this tour. Our boat was a good size and could accommodate a lot of people, but being a weekday, it wasn't too crowded, which was great for us :)
The crew on our tour were Chris, Bill, Val, Lili, and Maia. They were excellent.
I want to also give a shoutout to Lili- she sent me photos of the whales through email on her own time- which I appreciated so much, and its such a nice touch :)
Thank you for a great experience. This was my first time in Victoria, but I'm coming back for sure, and I'll be sure to book another whale watching tour!

We ended up taking two trips for the price of one, as we didn't manage to find whales on our first outing. We were booked on to another trip the following day for free, as per their guarantee.

We have been on safari before as well as numerous other wildlife excursions, including whale watching, so we fully appreciate how unpredictable nature can be. While it is always disappointing to miss out on a sighting, much of the enjoyment from these experiences comes from going out into another creatures' habitat, learning about their behaviour and characteristics and actively looking for the various species. With this in mind, we still enjoyed every second of being out there on the deck of the comfortable catamaran, learning about the native marine and bird species from the very informative naturalists as we sailed around the beautiful waters North of Victoria.

The second outing was more fruitful. We located a pod of Orcas after about half an hour of cruising, staying with the them for a number of breathe cycles (about 30mins) before backing off and allowing other boats to approach. There were other boats there and the crew were very mindful of not encroaching too closely on the orcas, but we still had a good encounter nonetheless.

On the way back we were lucky enough to also spot a humpback whale, which we loved just as much as seeing the orcas.

During the journey, Lili, Maya and Rory (the on-board naturalists) were positioned on each deck and were sharing all their knowledge about the various species of whale, the larger ecosystem and some of the challenges that they face. They also kindly shared some of their photos afterwards, as their camera equipment was more professional than most passengers.

We would heartily recommend using this company for whale watching tours. They are very professional, friendly and care deeply about the native species. Previous experience has taught us that less reputable operators are not inclined to treat the whales or their habitat with such respect so we felt like we had made the right choice with Prince of Whales.

Our trip was supposed to include a 3 hour whale watching component followed by a two hour trip from Bucchart Cove to Vancouver. In the three hour "whale watching" part we watched 2 humpback whales for about 15 minutes from fairly far away. While I appreciate the sensitivity of giving the animals their distance, we were much further away than the other boats and did not seem to sit in a position where the whales would come closer to us (it was clear several times the directions they were moving). I was shocked that we didn't see a single killer whale pod! I didn't think this was even possible in the Victoria waters.
Our whale watching trip and sailing through the islands was more of just a high speed boat right -- if you're into that, you'll enjoy this. If you want to see whales and nature, and a relaxing cruise through the inlets, you'll be dissappointed.

Hello Jean,

We are very sorry to hear that you are unsatisfied with our service. Every tour is unique in terms of what wildlife we observe and how much of the whales we see. Currently, it is federally mandated that vessels must stay at a distance of 400m from killer whales which has been in effect since June 1st 2019. As we are part of the Pacific Whale Watching Association, we are permitted to watch the Bigg`s (transient) whales at a distance of 200 metres.

We can't comment on the distance that other companies are watching these whales from but at Prince of Whales, we take these distance regulations very seriously as not to influence the behavior of the marine animals in any way. We want to respect the fact that these are wild animals and we will remain impartial observers.

It is unfortunate that you didn't see any killer whales with us. Humpbacks are breathtaking to see in the wild but we appreciate that you were hoping to see another species.
