Lucked out with gorgeous sunny day at the end of September. Keep in mind you travel quite far to get out into open water. Spotted a few whales but they surface so briefly it’s not easy to grab a photo. Very interesting how the crew know which pod the whales are with lol. Smooth ride. Passed by the sea lion colony on way back to the harbour. Enjoyable day overall.

Hi there,

So great to hear that the weather was in your favour the day of your trip! Our crew certainly have a wealth of information and are able to identify whales by their dorsal fin and saddle patch (the greyish area behind the dorsal fin) as they are distinctive to each individual whale!

We are so pleased you got to observe the sea lions too! Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review and we can't wait to have you back with us again.

Wanted to take my daughter to experience getting up close to these beautiful creatures but even though our young captain tried and tried, we weren't able to find any.
I knew before hand that because of the time of the year (mid march) the probabilities were small but their advertisement guaranteed seeing whales so we took the chance.
The small boat ride was about 3 1/2 hours long and it was enjoyable, and we did get to see some other wild life (sea lions, bald eagles, and other birds).
At the end, the young captain told us that since Prince of Whales guarantees you to see whales, the offer was that we could come back any other time and take a free trip! So we'll see......

Hi Walter,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We are very sorry that you were not successful in seeing whales that day. Every tour is unpredictable and different in terms of what can be spotted. Just like whale watching anywhere in this region, or the world, sometimes we aren't lucky enough to see whales.

We do stand by our whale sighting guarantee and encourage our guests to join us on another tour in future at no cost, in the instance that no whales have been sighted. The experience of our guests is really important to us so please do contact us to arrange another booking.

Thank you again for your feedback and we hope to see you soon!

Although the whales decided not to grace us with their presence the boat ride was fun!! My father, my husband and I enjoyed the zodiac ride trying to find them. Beautiful scenery! Jasper, our captain, was knowledgeable, and very friendly. The sea lions, seals and eagles were impressive ... especially the sea lions!

We went on an off-season day and still saw a bunch of transient orcas. The guide was informative and kept a respectful distance from the animals and it never felt like a “chase,” just passive observation, as it should be. We also saw harbor seals and pups, stellar sea lions and pups, a river otter, and various birds. The other two adults I was with agreed it was well worth the $86USD or whatever the full price was for an off season morning trip. It was plenty warm with the suits, gloves, and hats provided. Bring your own sunglasses and warm socks/shoes. Heads up- if you sit in the front row (especially with only a few people on the boat) you will need to hang on for dear life at times! Lots of fun!

Thank you for your wonderful review Allyson - how great that you got to see a pod of transient orcas and marine wildlife on your adventure. The zodiac tour is certainly one of our most adrenaline-pumping adventures and a great way to encounter whales in the wild - almost like a Safari in the Sea!

We are so happy you enjoyed our tour and we hope to have you join us again whenever you are back in British Columbia.
