I rented the two bedroom boutique penthouse for a stay with some extended family. We knew it would be a squeeze, but decided to go with 5 in the room (use the sofa bed) as we all wanted to enjoy the city / ocean views and large rooftop patio. The weather was fantastic and we spent a lot of time relaxing and admiring the views.
The kitchen is well stocked with knives & utensils. It could a benefit to have oven mitts. When we checked in, there was a dirty frying pan and baking sheet in the oven. We wanted to use the baking sheet so proceeded to wash it. The hotel had not supplied a pot scrubber and the dish detergent was watered down and very runny. They also only provided one dishwasher detergent cube so there was no doing dinner and then breakfast separately, so we hand washed the dishes we needed for breakfast after we ate dinner. The kitchen floor was also dirty.
We had specified on the on-line reservation that there would be five people. However, the bathrooms only had four bath towels, four hand towels and two face cloths. We called for another set of towels but they had not arrived after 90 minutes. We called again and got one bath towel and one hand towel even though we'd asked for two sets. We didn't realize until around 10 pm that we only had two face cloths, so called again. This time, the face cloths arrived after only 10 to 15 minutes. I'm not sure whether the hotel has a towel shortage or whether they offer fewer towels to try to cut operating costs.
The hotel is in a fantastic location and having a kitchen is a great bonus. There is a full size grocery store and government liquor store within a 10 minute walk. Buy paper towels while you're at the grocery store as unlike ski condo rentals, the hotel does not supply any napkins.
The desk staff were friendly. One strange point, we were called (at home) the night before our arrival and informed that the hotel had a strict no noise policy ... I guess rather than being pleased that we were arriving to celebrate three family members' birthdays (my elderly Mom's, my sister's and brother-in-law's) the hotel was concerned about us arriving to ???

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The rooms are very modern with a kitchenette. The staff is VERY friendly and helpful. We enjoyed a light, tasty breakfast at the Bistro. I would HIGHLY recommend this hotel. Gym could be upgraded with nicer cardio equipment. The Harbour Towers next door has a nicer fitness center (however, pales in comparison in every other way!).

My wife and I were only going to be in Victoria for about 24 hours, primarily to go on a whale-watching trip and do a little shopping. I'd read a bunch of the reviews on this site and was aware of the lack of A/C...but I was planning on seasonal averages (high of 62F/17C) and instead it was above average (74F/23C). The fans were a nice touch and it did cool off overnight, but it's tough to get a breeze going when all the windows are on one side of the unit. Also, the laughing gull that starts crying outside your window at 7AM is VERY loud with the windows open. ;) The room(s) were very well-appointed and clean. It looked very much as if the hotel is a renovated apartment building, because our room looked more like a one-bdrm apartment than a hotel room with a full-size refrigerator and stove.

We were too late to get any food at checkin but did have a relaxing drink. The common areas of the hotel do appear to be air-conditioned. We ate breakfast the next morning and it was fine. The menu was very limited and our waitress was having to cover not only the eating area but room service too. It seems as if they may need to revisit staffing issues as service was pretty slow with only one other table occupied.

The hotel did store our bags after checkout and was very pleasant. I'm likely to consider the Oswego again, but more likely if it is cool/cold weather.

We stayed here for one night and thought it was fabulous. We were upgraded to a premier suite and had a nice view of the moutains and partial view of the harbour. The only issue I had is the lack of air conditioning in the room. Our room was a little stuffy when we arrived and we needed to leave our balcony door open all night to get it cooled off . Otherwise, I thought the place was great.

We chose to stay at the Oswego for our honeymoon, also our very first trip to the west coast. Everything looked beautiful on the website, modern design, close to downtown and all the activities we planned. The hotel itself is nicely designed and well appointed, what is lacking here is the level of cleanliness and attention. The room had stains and marks on the wall and the upholstery. The bed lacked proper bedding, just flat sheets and a duvet without a cover, the pillowcases showed areas that were threadbare. The grout in the shower was stained. The lighting in the bathroom is completely inadquate, too dark to apply makeup, even when I brought in the lamps from the living room it was too dark. We even ran out of toilet paper because they failed to replenish the suite supplies. After 3 days we had a meeting with the manager, and the staff is very friendly and accommodating, but they need to spend less time worrying about the fruit infused water in the lobby and pay more attention to the basics, specfically cleaning the suites properly, and ensuring all the supplies are replenished. We were out all day one day, came back around 3pm and our suite had not yet been made, we had to call and wait 1 1/2 hours before we could shower because we were all out of clean towels. Hopefully they will get their act toghether, but until then, the service does not match the style and atmosphere of the hotel.

Our apologies for the various points you mentioned and errors that ocurred during your stay with us in our busy summer season.

During the time that you stayed with us we were a little short staffed in our housekeeping department - this has since been recitified and as stated in previous reviews our clealiness standards continue to be of a high standard.

My apologies that the problem resolution given was insufficient and that this did not assist in changing your view of the hotel. My wife and I stayed at the Oswego hotel for one night during our honeymoon. We arrived early and were happy that we were able to check in much earlier than expected. The underground secure parking and elevator area was very clean, the lobby was stylish and service was good. Initial reactions of the room were good. Rooms are very spacious and well decorated. The room was very clean except for multiple visible stains on the carpet. We had some issues with our door lock not engaging from the outside when the door was closed. Maintenance came up immediately and quickly "adjusted" the door. Multiple times during our stay our room entry cards stopped working.

Our shower stall did not drain properly and we ended up standing in 3" of water while showering. Calling guest services resulted in more than 10 minutes on hold before hanging up and going down to the front desk in person. After waiting approximately another 5-10 minutes, I spoke to the manager on duty. Manager on duty offered that someone come fix the shower or move us to a new room and comp our parking fees and breakfast. We were told that a voucher for breakfast would be dropped off at our room but it wasn't, had to go down to the front desk to get it the next day.

Restaurant (breakfast) was average, nothing special. No AC in rooms, but there is decent airflow if the windows and balcony door are open.

Overall, the Oswego is an average hotel but it has a lot of potential and is located in a great central area of Victoria within walking distance to many great attractions and restaurants.

Hotel is nice and modern except for the fact that it has no air conditioning and only has small crank windows that open about three inches. They claim it gets cold at night but the room was hot when we checked in and was still hot the next day when we checked out. Thank goodness we only walked 2 blocks from the Clipper. Everything else was nice about the hotel. Did not eat at the hotel. Beer prices at the liquor store across the street was outrageous. Has nothing to do with the hotel but thought I would throw it out there as a warning. Overall, the hotel would be top notch all the way around if it had a/c. I suggest you stay here in the middle of winter.
