“A very welcoming hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2014

We were very impressed when we visited this hotel in June. The staff were welcoming and very helpful making us feel that nothing was too much trouble.

Our suite was modern, beautifully furnished with a well equipped kitchen as well as dining furniture and comfortable seating area. It was one of the few without a balcony but this did not spoil our enjoyment.

I had previously read criticism about the lack of air conditioning but our room had it installed. Maybe in response to this. Unfortunately the outlet pipe went through a corner of the window which stopped the blind fully closing at that end. Hopefully that was just a temporary fix.

Do not let this comment put you off visiting the Oswego. You would be missing a little gem. The location is very close to the harbour but without the hustle and bustle and traffic. The in house food is excellent and there are good restaurants very near by.

We travelled by car and found that the underground car park was very welcome.

Thank you for staying with us and we appreciate the positive feedback and comments.

Yes we do have air-conditioning in a small group of our studio suites. Only the suites without balconies have this. All of our other suites have doors and windows that they can be opened. We provide also ceiling fans and extra portable fans as required.

We very much look forward to welcoming you back to stay with us again soon.

Thank you!

This hotel is a beautifully located place within Victoria BC....within walking distance of most destinations. The staff go out of their way to be helpful and if you book your attractions through the front desk, you get a discount. We got great recommendations to restaurants, and additional information on certain downtown interests that we hadn't thought of. The beds are so comfortable that we wished the sea gulls didn't wake up so early - when one is near the ocean it is something to get use too. The fruit and chocolates were a wonderful touch. This hotel is located a 'bit' off the touristy area which makes it quieter as far as traffic is concerned. One can use the kitchenette, if savings on breakfast/lunch/dinner are an issue, this is a plus...appliances are available. Would definitely go back.

Let's start with the good: location to the clipper ferry terminal (short 3/4 block walk), nice location to major attractions, incredibly helpful staff, turn down service & discount on bistro, nice design eco friendly hotel (no a/c- not needed, gets cool at night); however without the a/c we slept with slider open which let all the city noise in. So unfortunately if it wasn't the blast of a cruise ship or a loud car, it was the seagulls squawking in the morning. I'd suggest to management to supply ear plugs for guests. :)

Glad that you enjoyed the many aspects of the hotel including our service and standards.

Yes unfortunately the Seagulls can be a little loud during the summer months. We live in harmony with them but recognize that they can be noisy. My apologies that this is out of our control to ensure quietness.

We hope to welcome you back soon.

Thank you!

We truly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Oswego! It was a quick and easy walk to everywhere you'd want to go in downtown Victoria. We had arrived via the Clipper Ferry from Seattle and the hotel is less than 5 minutes walking (with luggage) from the pier.

The name Oswego Hotel is misleading -- it should be Oswego Suites! The room we stayed in was well appointed with a large bathroom (steam shower & separate soaking tub), a full kitchen complete with stovetop and dishwasher (we didn't use it, but it was very convenient!), a large bed and great big windows.

Note: They give you a 20% off card for food in their restaurant upon checkin. We did take advantage of this for breakfast in the morning, but even with the 20% off, we felt that $40 for breakfast was way too overpriced, and although the food was decent, it certainly wasn't worth the price.

Next time we are in Victoria we will be staying at the Oswego Hotel!

We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. I will pass on your positive comments to the team.

My apologies that you found the breakfast a little to costly. We do analyze other city restaurants etc and feel that our pricing is competitive along with the guest 20% discount. I will pass on your comments to the food and beverage team so can continue to listen to our guests and adjust accordingly.

We look forward to welcoming you back to stay again soon.

Chose the location to avoid the touristy area, for a bit more room and for calmer crowd.
We truly enjoyed our stay at studio 906. The kitchen (to our surprise) was better equipt that we thought. We didn't expect a blender (we love smoothies), a dishwasher (yeap hassle free washing up) and a huge fridge (for multiple meals) ! The grocery store nearby, Thrifty has everything under the sun and we had amazing meal in our home (away from home)

Plenty of small detail added into it such as;
1. A call from receptionist after we checked in, to see if room was to our liking

2. The stereo which already starts to create the atmosphere the minute we stepped in the room

3. A bowl of local green apples

4. The mint water supply by the bed side is glass pitcher just at turned down service

5. The ongoing smile through out the stay

6. The functional little gym - enough for us!

Highly recommended

We are a married couple on our 3 yr Anniversary Trip from Toronto. Usually stay in 4 to 5 star hotels. This did not disappoint.

Overall
(Pros)
- great staff, amazing service, underground parking for $15 or valet for $20
- water with mint by nightstand
- all rooms are suites (full kitchen) large windows, small bedrooms
- separate showers and baths, his and her robes
- chocolate treats upon arrival for Anniversary (nice touch!)
- Great Location, walking distance to restaurants and harbour
- highly rated bar and restaurant but we did not try
- located a few minutes away (5-10) from main strip downtown.

(Cons)
- no waterfront or harbour views, looking into office buildings or over apartments
- warning: no AC open windows only
- pricey: paid $288 (discounted via Expedia) for Standard 1 Bedroom in August

Room Tip: Ask for higher floors for better views

Thank you for choosing us - we appreciate it and know there are many choices of places to stay in Victoria. What sets us apart is the wonderful service and the each detail that the team work hard on delivering on so that we ensure all of our guests have an amazing stay with us.

When you visited it was during our very busy summer. Our rates are the highest all year during these months. We do offer room specials throughout the year and I encourage you to check out our website for specials or when we run last minute specials also on Expedia or other online websites.

Happy belated Anniversary and we hope that you come back and visit us again soon.

I highly recommend this hotel. While checking in, the staff was friendly and professional. When I asked for a dinner recommendation, she not only offered a couple of suggestions but then made a reservation for us. She also provided a map with directions to the restaurant and told us of other attractions we could see on the way. We got a 1 bedroom premium (7th floor or higher). It was set up like a small apartment, with a living room / full kitchen area separate of the bedroom, and the bathroom was in the entrance hall. It was a beautifully decorated space with a full wall of windows in the living room, with a long narrow balcony that could be accessed either through the living room or bedroom. The bedroom also had a large window for the view. Since the hotel sits a few blocks from the harbor, the view of the harbor is somewhat distant and partially obstructed by various buildings. If you really want a room with an unobstructed view of the harbor, then you'll need to book with a hotel that sits directly on the waterfront. But this hotel was perfect for our one night stay in Victoria. it was clean, comfortable, and conveniently located - we walked to the Parliament Builidng, the Inner Harbor, Visitors Center, and the Empress Hotel. Shops and Restaurants were also nearby. It would be well suited for anyone staying multiple nights and wanted to cook in the room. The kitchen had everything, even a dishwasher, and dishes, glasses, and pots. Parking is a separate charge (as is with most hotels in Victoria and Vancouver) but it is underground with a security gate that is accessed witht the hotel keycard. Overall, we enjoyed our visit and would stay at the Oswego Hotel again.

Thank you for your review

We have 80 suites and a portion of them are on higher floors and have views. Yes we are slightly set back from the inner harbour but we also have ocean views too.

Enjoying your stay in Victoria but also at the Oswego is important and the team will always recommend and assist as needed.

We hope that you come back and stay with us again in the near future.
