We had the High Tea today and it was amazing, beautifully prepared. The decoration of the room really suits the high tea theme. We felt like we were in the early 1900's. Our waitress couldn't gave been more friendly and helpful, she even gave us a doggie bag with what we couldn't eat to take back to the hotel. $60 per head was well worth it. The hotel itself is so impressive, it is the main feature on the waterfront.

This tour is not advertised, so I got the info from a friend. There is a tour desk in the east end of the hotel near the tearoom, but you may have to ask for directions at the front desk.

We had a very nice lady who was dressed in period costume for our behind-the-scenes and historical tour of this grand old railway hotel. The tour lasts 1 1/2 hours, or a little longer if the group is large (20-25 people). She took us through the halls, into a suite, through the dining room, into a conference room, up elevators, down stairs, and back in time while relating the history of the hotel and famous guests of the past.

What a delightful tour. If you love architecture and history, you will love this tour. The cost is $12 CAD for adults, not suitable for young children (boring).

First time visitors to this hotel and we booked a one-night stay through Clipper Vacations. We stayed with our children and grandparents in two rooms. It seemed like the hotel was pretty empty, but we were given rooms very far away from each other which was a little annoying. Our view also left something to be desired. I know we can't get a great view every time, but again, it seemed like the hotel wasn't very full.

Overall, it was ok. I may have gotten a discount through Clipper Vacations because it was a package, but I don't think I would pay full price to stay here especially due to the extra parking/wifi charges.

Pros:
Friendly staff
Great central location to downtown and across from pier
Great opportunity for nice photographs outside (nice grounds)
Non-smoking hotel
Comfortable beds
Quiet rooms
Good workout room as reported by Grandpa
Baggage lockable after checking out
Kids enjoyed the pool

Cons:
Pay-only Wi-Fi $15!!
Pay-only parking $30/day
Small rooms
Very little counter space in the bathroom
No AC (not a problem for us during the visit, but maybe for others)
Old furniture/carpets, our sofa chair had a gash in it

A beautiful old hotel brought to modern times but gracious and warm. High Tea is a must and reservations required. Go to a later sitting and you won't need dinner.
