“Over priced bastion”

Nothing to personal about this place.I feel it is only popular because of its location.I would never stay here since there are much more very good hotels to find.

“The Empress Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 21, 2013

We have never actually stayed at this lovely hotel, but we would never visit Victoria without spending some time here. The lobby is its own experience, with or without reserving a table for the elegant tea. I always take an hour or more to wander in the galleries. The artwork and sculpture are museum-worthy. One year I actually purchased an amazing work carved from a moose antler by a Native, depicting his grandmother who was a Shaman. What a treasure! After wandering around inside the hotel, be sure to spend some time walking around the grounds. Beautiful!

“Gracious building, beautiful grounds”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 20, 2013

The Empress is such a lovely older hotel. Nice to wander through, although the lobby is no longer as expansive as it was in the past. Afternoon tea is much more formal now, with a "tea room" built up in the lobby area.

Worth a visit to see what grand hotels used to be like.

“Must see beautiful hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 19, 2013

I really love the decor and history. The Afternoon Tea was delightful with live piano music. Perfect mother daughter beginning to our holiday. The Bengal Lounge was good too. You do pay for this place though. I thought it could be a little less even though it is an iconic must see and do.

“Nostalgia tea at the Empress”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 18, 2013

Christmas saw us having afternoon Tea at the Empress. Grandparents used to take the kids there back in the early '30's and it does not disappoint now. Same standards at play so that generations 4 and 5 could take in the sights, enjoy the sandwiches, pastries, cheeses and tea fireside, on a chilly damp coastal day. Some legends live on across Canada. Afternoon tea at the Empress, alongside VIctoria's Harbour, does not disappoint. It is expensive but reasonable given the location, service and tie to life as it was lived on this island outpost long ago.
