“Love Fairholme Manor!!!”
Reviewed October 11, 2013

My mother and I stayed at Fairholme Manor the first week of October and absolutely loved it! The home is almost 130 years old and is beautifully maintained. Our room was the Rose Garden Suite. It was a gorgeous 1000 sq ft 2 bedroom suite with a full kitchen and sitting area. It had the beautiful high ceiling of an older home and a huge bay window that was so nice to sit in front of with the warm morning sun shining in. We had a wonderful wood-burning fireplace that was all set up for our use if we so desired. We also had a private balcony that overlooked the ocean and the mountains of Olympia and would have been wonderful to sit out on if our weather had cooperated. Next time!
Ross and Sylvia are the owners and made us feel welcome from the first time we stepped in the front door. Ross carried our luggage up the winding staircase and showed us all around our room and the breakfast room. Sylvia's breakfasts absolutely lived up to their reputation! My mother and I both bought her cookbooks and can hardly wait to try to duplicate her delicious recipes.
The location of Fairholme Manor is great. It actually backs onto the property of the Government House so is easy to visit the beautiful public gardens. Rockland Place is a small street that looks more like a driveway than a street when you first make the turn off Rockland Avenue. Don't feel like you've made a wrong turn. You need to drive in a ways before the house comes into view.
While we were there, a photo shoot was happening at Fairholme Manor for one of Victoria's local magazines. It was fun to watch all the excitement surrounding it. We were never made to feel we couldn't be around while it was taking place. We were actually welcomed in to watch.
I would highly recommend Fairholme Manor. Can't wait to go back!

My wife, Sue, and I spent a week here and we both agreed that this was the ultimate climax of our unbelievable holiday in British Columbia.
The accomodation in the Penthouse suite was luxurious, the views from the balcony breathtaking...loved the deer that visited us!
The breakfasts were different every day, everyone of the highest quality and all home cooked by the lovely Sylvia!
Ross and Sylvia treated all of their guests like old friends, Sue and I will be back in a couple of years to renew our friendship.

Room Tip: If you want a view, the top floor rooms are to die for but if you just want real home comfort, any o...

My wife and I traveled to Victoria on our honeymoon and had an amazing stay at the Fairholme Manor. The house is absolutely beautiful and the rooms are very large and well equipped. We stayed in the Rose Garden Suite which had two bedrooms, a huge bathroom and even a small fully equipped kitchen. Although the accommodations were excellent, the most memorable part of our stay definitely was Sylvia’s breakfasts, they are 5 star restaurant quality and the by far the best breakfasts we have had period. Sylvia was also kind enough to provide us with a copy of her cookbook when she heard we were on our honeymoon, thanks Sylvia!!!

Great breakfasts, old home charms, all tucked away for enjoyment. Have been here before five years ago and thankfully nothing has changed. All the best for anyone visiting. Make sure to get some local recommendations from the hosts, never a miss yet

We returned to Fairholme Manor for our 10-year anniversary--our first visit was for our honeymoon and we had been looking forward to returning ever since. We were not disappointed. The rooms and grounds were as beautiful, the breakfasts as delicious, and Sylvia's hospitality as warm as we remembered. As wonderful as the Fairholme Manor experience was 10 years ago, Sylvia does not rest on her laurels. Things are not exactly the same as they were 10 years ago--nor should they be. She has updated and refreshed along the way, maintaining an elegant and serene environment that is warm and inviting.

We stayed in the Olympic Grand and the Penthouse Suite. Both are second-floor rooms with views of the Olympic Mountains in the distance. The Olympic Grand, located in the main building, has gorgeous high ceilings and a private terrace. It gets lots of wonderful natural light and feels so luxurious and romantic. The Penthouse Suite is located in the part of the building that looks like a later addition and it does not have the grand ceiling height but it also gets lots of natural light and feels like such a private oasis. The Penthouse has views of the mountains and both Sylvia's beautiful gardens and those of Government House next door. The Penthouse Suite has a separate living room, bedroom, and kitchen, giving it the feeling of your own private apartment in Victoria. These are our 2 favorite rooms at Fairholme Manor--but all are beautiful, tastefully decorated and adorned with fresh flowers from the garden.

Sylvia's gourmet breakfasts are not only beautiful to look at--they are so delicious! Both ends of the "B" & "B" experience are top-notch at Fairholme Manor. What completes the experience is Sylvia and Ross's warm hospitality. Their local area advice is so helpful. Sylvia didn't simply recommend Brasserie L'Ecole for dinner--she advised us to go straight there from our whale-watching trip to put our names on the list and then return for a shower before heading back out to dinner. This worked out perfectly. If we had come back to our room first to get cleaned up and then returned to the restaurant, we would've had to wait a long time for a table! Sylvia also recommended Sen Zushi for sushi--we enjoyed it so much we dined there twice!

The Fairholme Manor experience is a special one. We met many loyal repeat visitors. We wish we lived closer so we can also visit more often. Hopefully, it won't be another 10 years before we make it back! Fairholme Manor is gracious living--a must-stay when visiting Vancouver Island!

Room Tip: Olympic Grand and Penthouse Suites have distant views of the Olympic Mountains. Olympic Grand has wo...

This was out first visit to Victoria, and we booked the Fairholme based on Karen Brown and Trip Advisor positive endorsements. I don't think I can overstate how delighted we were with this choice. We arrived after a long day of planes, boats and automobiles..... and were greeted at he door by a smiling Sylvia and the incredible aroma of baking scones. Sylvia walked us up to our room and it was every bit as breathtaking as it had appeared on line. A huge suite with an incredible view of the Water and the Snow capped Olympic mountains beyond. The entire place was beautifully decorated, and fresh flowers were growing or floating everywhere. Sylvia gave us a fantastic recommendation for our dinner that evening and even called and got us a table despite the restaurant being fully booked. The next morning we came down to the breakfast area and met Ross and a staff member (Kristen?), both of whom were as friendly and gracious as Sylvia. We enjoyed what had to be the most delicious breakfast we have ever tasted anywhere. Many of the ingredients were grown and picked right from their own gardens. Each day when we returned from our day of exploring, the home was filled with the smells of that day's baking and some friendly chit chat with Ross and/or Sylvia. Each morning the breakfast was as incredible or even better than the prior day. A few times while we were sitting on our deck taking in the view before heading out to dinner, we could see the berries, potatoes, or herbs being picked from the garden for our next morning's treats by Sylvia.

We would (and already have) recommend this place without reservation.

Room Tip: We had the chance to see 2 or 3 of the other rooms and each one was both charming and very tastefull...
