We had a good time going to Butchart Gardens and Victoria. We took the Land Sea tours and our tour guide Ryan was awesome. Lots of good information. Ryan had a good sense of humor. Will definitely recommend this trip.

The Pier is great for a stroll. Check out the various boats and yachts tied up at the pier. You can also stroll a little further and check out the float planes nearby.

We walked the km or so out onto the breakwater to the lighthouse, then had lunch at the Ogden Point Cafe. Terrific views, the sea right beneath us, wouldn`t have done it in high winds or wet conditions. I`m not great with open heights, stayed in the middle.

We enjoyed walking around the pier and downtown area of Victoria. It is obvious that the city and the residents take pride in the parks, street-side gardens and fountains in their city. They are beautifully designed and well-maintained. We always felt completely safe walking around the area, but we did encounter several homeless people who asked for money. I will also warn that the city has an obvious sea gull population problem. There is evidence of this on every sidewalk, surface and awning throughout the city. Beware of walking too close to the edge of a building, because you WILL become a target. We narrowly missed a nasty encounter with a sea gull and were amazed with the range! I am not sure what the city can do to improve the bird situation, but installing the bird deterrents on top edges of all of buildings would definitely help. We were in the city on a holiday weekend (BC Day) and were amazed that the morning after all of the events, they city appeared as clean as it did the day before. The attendees all seemed very polite and obviously have a interest in maintaining this beautiful city. I was slightly disappointed in the variety of activities in the downtown area. Most seemed to be geared toward young children. The one activity we wanted to do, whale watching, required wearing a "rubber suit" of some sort (to protect you from the water since the boats were open zodiaks). Wearing the rubber suits was not appealing to us since it was very warm day and it did not see like it would be very comfortable or hygienic. We did consider a horse drawn carriage ride, but the cost was expensive in comparison to other metropolitan areas. We also considered a sea plane tour, but the timing of the available tours did not work with our schedule.

the weather was wonderful. there are many attractions to see. Def go see the gardens at the empress hotel. there are also many side performers that perform along the pier. everything is within walking distance, and the shops are original.
