It is a great museum if you have never been there. The temporary exhibitions need help. They are well curated, but the museum is getting old.

This museum is a must if you go to Victoria. It is easy to find and the staff are friendly and very helpful. The fixed exhibits are of high quality, particularly the First Nation section and the Natural History areas. The wildlife displays are well designed and look very like the real thing! The Special exhibition of the Maya was a highlight. But I don't know how long it will be available to view. The entry was good value but I thought the food prices in the cafe were a bit steep!

The Maya exhibit was different than I had expected. This can be a good thing as it opens up a different aspect of perspective. It lead me more towards archaeologists and religious aspects with touches of mathematics and political sides. Afterwards entering the Natural History exhibit I came across other people who were lost in trying to find their way out amongst the various rooms. Even though security were in the corridors there is a labyrinth within the route thoughout the exhibit that can be intriguing. I found the 'realness' of the displays impeccable, but may be intimidating to those who are weary of the immersion into the natural wilderness. The Gift Shop has fantastic quality of items coinciding with the exhibits. Even though we did not partake in the theatre films, as an IMAX I imagine I would appreciate the features of the films.

Excellent museum with multiple displays. Many exhibits feature our First Nations people. Children will love seeing the woolly mammoth and other wild animals and birds placed in realistic looking settings. The exhibit also has a replica of a working sawmill and part of an old sailing ship. There is an excellent exhibit on climate warming. The ancient west coast totems are amazing.
