Beacon Hill Park provides a variety of landscapes through which to wander - including formal gardens, wilderness areas, and a stunning Juan De Fuca Strait coastal path from which - on a clear day - the Olympic Mountains are visible. It is also home to the world's tallest totem pole, which is certainly a sight to see.

Top-tip: Keep an eye out for the resident peacocks, who wander freely through the park.

The park is filled with flowers, quiet places to read a book. A must! A serene walk from the waterfront.

Spring brings the flowers in bloom, summer has the free concerts in the park, and late summer there are baby peacocks walking around. Winter is very quiet, and thus also a nice time to visit!

Except when the tourists are too heavy, we love to go through the park with a biggish bag of corn/duck food to watch the clamouring of the wild residents. The petting zoo is another BIG favourite of ours, staying outside the fence watching how parents expose their children to animals (the goats always crack me up). Excellent to see how children get enjoyment with the animals. Our dogs are also socialized by watching and learning of other animals, and all in a safe environment outside the wire. Amazing how well they respond too.
