“Good value for what you get”

The Strathcona is a renovated heritage hotel in central Vancouver. There was nothing luxurious about my room, but I slept surprisingly well, even though Douglas Street outside was thronged by fans of the Strathcona's bars and hockey fans celebrating a big match. The bed was comfortable and the shower was strong and hot. Power sockets were hard to find. Breakfast downstairs in the Clubhouse, included in the room rate, was good -- cereal, bagels, bread, fruit, juice and coffee. The location was excellent for my early morning bus departure for Vancouver as well. Reception staff were friendly.

Room Tip: Definitely -- if you want to sleep ask for a room on the side away from the bars and volleyball cour...

I would never ever stay here again or recommend that anyone stay here. I am suprised it has not been inspected and closed down. When you register the receptionist asks you to pre authorise the total amount of your stay on a credit card, plus an additional $100.00 deposit in case you "Trash the room". This in itself should have been enough of a warning. However, nothing could prepare you for the room. The decoration is in itself depressing awful - Mustard painted unevenly plastered walls, with no decoration, and the furnishings including the bed, bedding, curtains and carpet were badly stained. Everything in the room appears to have been purchased from a victorian charity shop and desperately in need of a good cleaning. Seriously only the brave could sleep comfortably in this place so be warned. The area around the hotel is also frequented by substance abusers and homeless people at night .

I stayed at 'the Strath' with my 3 daughters and their 2 girlfriends for a fun filled trip to Victoria in June. We absolutely loved it. They have 4 bars and a rooftop restaurant with a volleyball court! It's very close to the waterfront and they provide free parking a half block away. And to finish off your trip a very good continental breakfast in the morning. One of the best places to stay in Victoria for sure.

Sadly we only stayed 1 night but found this hotel to be right in the heart of things - especially as we had to carry luggage to the seaplane terminal the next morning. The room was fine for the price & the pub attached was great for dinner and a few drinks. I asked for an upstairs rooms with any possible to views. Cant comment on noise from rooftop bar as it was closed when we were there.

You can't have it all. Stayed two nights at the Strathcona and had a fantastic time, but warned in advance about the noise and asked for room AWAY from Surf Club (Rooftop meatmarket/bar/volleyball) which is adjacent to hotel. Rooms are clean and Strathcona is amazing property with nine bars (all different themes) and historically old. Breakfast very good and friendly staff. Very close to wharf, attractions and good restaurants.

Room Tip: Ask for roof

A great location right on Douglas st, close to the port and all things walkable in Victoria.
Hotel staff were friendly and accommodating.
Adjoining hotels were the opposite, indifferent and generally unhelpful.
Parking was a great feature, close and relatively cheap
Excellent safe bike storage lockers, although not on site, yet close

Room Tip: One side is noisy roof top pub, front is loud. Rear of hotel opposite roof top pub is best
