Days Inn - Victoria on the Harbour
Ranked #33 of 49 Hotels in Victoria
Reviewed January 31, 2013

We had the unfortunate experience of staying at the Days Inn in Victoria BC two weeks ago. The lack of cleaning throughout the entire room was appalling; the grime was long term, and not just one days accumulation due to one maid's oversight. This property should not be recommended to any unsuspecting guests.

My wife and I stayed at the Grand Pacific Hotel next door for 7 days and decided to have breakfast at the Days Inn one morning.

While the food was plentiful and very adequate, the ambiance was crowded, with a lot of people coming and going.
In other words, almost no privacy while eating and the eating area, small.

On a scale of 5, a good 3.5 though.

Room Tip: If you are going to the States by the MV Coho, it departs from in front of the hotel. Also the rate...

Thank you for taking the time to write regarding our onsite restaurant. We're happy to hear you tried it out, although staying at a different hotel, and will pass your comments on. It is a popular place, for both the locals and the guests, and can get busy sometimes - in the summer it has more seating due to the outdoor patio as well. Perhaps we'll see you again and you can try out our accommodations too! Thank you again for your comments.

Let me start by saying this hotel has some great pros, but some unfortunate cons that cost it a better rating. I will start with the booking process, which was handled by a friendly young lady over the telephone. I asked for a queen size harbor view room, which is what we received. We were taking advantage of a promo price listed on the website, stay three nights and receive a 20% discount. This part of the experience went off without an issue.

When we arrived to the hotel we were very impressed with the location. Right next door to the Blackball Ferry, and an equal walking distance from the inner harbor to Fisher mans Wharf. Great so far. Then we went up to the room.

Now let me back up a second and mention that my wife and I went to Victoria in January for a relaxing break from the harsh winter back home and were planning to stay five nights. When we got up to the room my first impression was not good. The room was very small, the bathroom could have fit into one of the sailboats floating in the harbor. The room was easily showing its age and was in desperate need of a renovation. The biggest issue though was the temperature. It was very cold in the room! We turned the thermostat right up and figured it would only be a matter of time before heat started. The front desk told us that it could take up to half hour for the old hot water/radiator system to start delivering heat and they offered us a space heater. We tried sleeping (the bed was nothing to brag about either) but the cold temperature in the room was just to uncomfortable. I actually told my wife it felt like we were out camping in the mountains.

In the morning we decided we would up our price point on hotels and found other accommodations that were more in line with the experience we were expecting. We had ZERO trouble with the front desk again, we paid for the night and were on our way.

So all this to say:
If you are looking for the best price vs location in Victoria, this is a good bet. If you are just spending a night or two on a fishing trip or catching the ferry, I have no problem recommending this hotel.

However...if you are looking for a bright clean and relaxing hotel to spend a week with your loved one, unless you absolutely need the great room rates here, I would suggest this is not the hotel you are looking for.
