Humboldt House Bed & Breakfast Inn
Ranked #10 of 92 Victoria B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed April 12, 2010

Our second stay here. I came across this place on the web last year when my GF and I first met and took her there for our first night away together...it was perfect. We came back and spent Valentines weekend there this year. Very unique place, and close to Beacon Hill Park, the ocean, Downtown, Parliament, etc. We stayed in the Celebration Room both visits and love it. The room has it's own Jacuzzi for two, old style white wrought iron bed, and real wood burning fireplace. Decor is 'old Victorian' in this particular room...so expect that and not modern chic.
Sometimes tacky chintz just isn't tacky for some reason...know what I mean?
Anyway...the best part about Humboldt House is the breakfast part of B&B! So unique and interesting...it is served in your room through a sort of 'dumbwaiter' in the wall. Basically you write down each day your choice (of 4!) and time you'd like to eat, and it shows up with a polite knock on the wall! you simply open the little 'pet door' in the wall and a lovely wicker basket with everything you need is there waiting, complete with fresh juice, coffee and tea, pastries, jelly, etc. Wonderful! And did I mention the food is VERY good..yum:). I hope this review helps...and gentlemen, take my honest advice on this...your romantic gesture WILL be appreciated by the lady in your life, trust me.

My husband and I spent two nights at the Humboldt House B&B in the Mikado Room. The asian inspired room was very nicely decorated, clean and had a large jacuzzi tub which we loved. There were so many nice small touches that added to our stay. In our room when we arrived there were delicious chocolate truffles, sparkling wine, a wood fireplace (prepared for a fire).

We were greeted by the innkeeper David and he quickly explained a few things to us. Every afternoon they have tea, coffee and cookies in the sitting room and breakfast is served to your room each morning through a two-way compartment. All that we had to do was sign up for the menu that we wanted and the time that we wanted it served. You could essentially go the whole trip and not be disturbed but he was also very clear that he could help with any types of reservations etc if desired.

Our first morning the breakfast was delivered and it was delicious! Pack in a large basket, no detail was forgotten. I had delicious crepes with fruit and my husband had eggs benedict. There were also fresh croissants and a scone with jam and butter, juice, tea. It was all very well done and we enjoyed eating in our room as opposed to in a communal eating area.

The location of the B&B is very good and it is very easy walking distance to everything in downtown Victoria as well as a very nice park. There is parking included just behind the B&B which was very convenient.

We had a romantic and enjoyable stay and would definitely return to the Humboldt House B&B next time we are in Victoria.

This was our first time in a B&B and way did these guys go above and beyond our expectations! From the truffles, to the champagne, to the jacuzzi, to the breakfast delivered to our room so we could eat in bed. We were celebrating our third anniversary and it will a time to remember. Highly recommended!!

We have been coming to Humboldt House B&B for many years now for our wedding anniversaries and everytime we think of maybe trying some other place, we just can't do it. Everything about this Inn is romantic and private and the food is absolutely delicious and I know my cooking. It's cozy and warm and beautifully lit and the beds are so comfy! David is a wonderful host - always so welcoming, but if you never want to see another sould while you're there you don't have to. We will always choose Humboldt for our romantic getaways and we have sent our grown and married children there as well as many of our friends. It's just the best, and the only real way to know that is to go and visit them. No matter which room you choose it's going to be a good choice because each room has its own charm. The only suggestion that we have is that the Gazebo room should have two comfy chairs in front of the fire instead of the wicker couch. Other than that the house is just perfect. As long as David and Vlasta are there we will keep going back as often as we can. It's worth every penny! We're so glad we discovered it all those years ago. Can't wait to go again!!!

We would thoroughly recommend Humbolt House to anyone who wants a wonderful romantic retreat. The room was very nice (Gazebo Room) with a real fireplace and the breakfasts were superb. The pass through guaranteed privacy - neat touch. The view overlooking the park was beautiful. This was everything we had hoped for and more. Dave was a great host and the chocolates were amazing. Two things 1) be quick to sign up for the breakfast time of your choice if you are on a schedule. 2) units are not barrier free accessible

David and Family went way out of their way to make our stay great. From the breakfasts to the help with parking needs for a vintage car. The rooms are terrific and the location is so close to downtown but yet so quiet and I had the Edward room that is in the front of the building. David made several recommendations for site seeing and dinner reservations that were spot on. Plus he made sure the locations knew we were bring a special needs car. Any car people looking for a unique place to stay but with easy walking distance to the main part of town this is it. Great parking in the back off the street for those driving cars that are high end or vintage. Thank You, Marc, Rosemary & Lord Bentley (B264LEC)

Starting with the warm welcome from David at the door, every moment of our stay at the Humboldt House exceeded our expectations and desires. Scrumptious, elegant breakfasts delivered discreetly to our door; charmingly decorated room with an inviting, comfortable bed, pillows and linens; hot tub which was a treat each night after a day of hiking through the city; amazing homemade (by David) truffles and daily treats in the library; and warm, personal attention and care by David and his staff. We highly recommend the Humboldt House and look forward to returning some day!
