“A truly unique and romantic getaway”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 2, 2009

My husband and I took a trip last year to Victoria from our home in California to celebrate the wedding of some dear friends. We expected romance and love to be the theme of the weekend but didn't expect it to be such an amazing and romantic getaway for us. From our first view of the Humboldt House, we had the feeling that we had stumbled onto a gem.

The small B & B is located within walking distance of everything Victoria has to offer and yet is tucked away in a neighborhood far enough away from the hustle and bustle of downtown. Upon entrance, we were invited to the front library where we were met with homemade cookies and little snuffers for port. It was so nice to sit in the warm room after a long day of travel. When we were led down the hall to our room by the owner, we got to peek in to some of the different rooms, each with a unique style of their own. When we got to our room, my breath was taken away. Our room had a beautiful big bed with a white canopy and beautiful lace sheets and pillows. There was a fireplace in the room as well as a jacuzzi tub. My husband and I were so excited to get to stay in such an exquisite room for a few days.

That night, we were invited to take a look at the menu for the next morning and mark down what we wanted. The owner of the B & B is an amazing cook and baker and makes all of the breakfast items himself. Each room has a little keyed hole in the wall which allows your breakfast to be placed "inside" of your room with out disturbing you until you are ready to eat, at which time you open the little door on the inside of your room and pull out your goody basket. Each morning we were greeted with a little picnic basket with sweet floral place settings, coffee, orange juice, milk, etc. and the most delicious breakfasts. It was like having a personal chef to start each day in the privacy of our little secret getaway.

All in all, staying at the Humboldt House was an experience we won't soon forget.
I cannot wait to go back to the Humboldt House and highly recommend it for anyone looking for a quick getaway, an amazing honeymoon or a chance to just relax in a place that feels both luxurious and completely comfortable.

We couldn't have picked a better place to stay. The breakfast was phenomenal, the tub luxurious and the fireplace made it very cozy and sweet. Thank you... we'll sure look you up again :-)

We were referred to the Humboldt House by the owners of a restaurant in Shelton, Washington. We got online that night, called and made a reservation for the next day....we lucked out.

The Humboldt House was easy to find from the ferry landing, easy walking around Victoria.

I loved the fact that they thought of everything, like eye make up remover pads on the sink, notebooks to write our memories in for others to read, big enough bathrobes for the big man and they arrived for the best hot outstanding breakfast exactly when it was due.

The Humboldt House was quiet and we felt like we were the only ones there.

  • Liked — The cozy, comfortable conveniences
  • Disliked — Water for jaxuzzi wasn't hot enough

We had an absolutely fabulous stay at the Humboldt House and I would highly recommend this B & B for anyone staying in Victoria. We stayed in the Mikado room, and it was beautiful, clean, and even better than the pictures on the website! Chocolates and sparkling wine were waiting. The tub in the room was perfect - in fact, we are now thinking our next house has to have one of these! David was so helpful - we needed directions and sights to see and he had great suggestions. We lit a fire in our room and had an outstanding breakfast the next morning. We honestly wished we could have stayed for weeks! Probably the best B & B I have ever stayed in (and I travel a lot). I will be going back next year! You can't go wrong with this place!

  • Liked — The tub in the room!
  • Disliked — Nothing - it was amazing!

My wife and I spent some time in Victoria this year and decided to treat ourselves to a night at a local B&B. We had walked past Humboldt House on our way into downtown many times and thought it to be a beutiful period building in a great location. We had an all to brief stay that will live in our hearts for ever. the best part was that we were treated as welcome guests from beginig to end. That made Us feel as if We were at home. Thanks again to the Innkeeper David for his great dinner recomendations.(and truffles!) ("

  • Liked — The accomodation was a reflection of true hospitality
  • Disliked — can,t say because it was great!

Victoria B.C. is a wonderful city. The diversity, food, museum's, atmosphere....perfect place to spend our honeymoon and get away w/o really going away, we're from Everett, WA so we caught a ferry out of Anacortes, WA. Of course what added to all this was where we stayed, that being the Humboldt House B-n-B. The room's were nicely decorated and quiet, close to downtown and restaurants, and just full of charm and personality which fit in with Victoria nicely. The host was very helpful and informative and the breakfast...not only was it excellent in it's taste and presentation, but the manner in which it was served in the mornings, through a private cabinet from the hallway into the room, was a very unique and quaint way of service and a wonderful thing to wake up to in the morning. There was no TV in the room, but one could request one, we preferred not to have one, but there is a CD radio and WiFi. We stayed off the grid during our stay, but we did take advantage of the radio....listening to election coverage on NPR...yeah, nice way to spend the honeymoon, but it was an important election..anyhoo......

We took advatage of the packages offered at the Humboldt House, that being the Wine tour which was setup w/o a hitch thanks to the host, and right when he said, there was a limo waiting for us to take us to the several wineries in the region. It was great to see all these places, taste the wine, eat the food and the driver was full of information and was really nice.

Overall, our first visit to Victoria, our stay at the Humboldt house was a very positive and excellent experience. We highly recommend staying there and plan on going back ourselves....and when you read the guest books in the room you will see that through out the years not much has change in the way of service and satisfied patrons.

We went for a night's getaway and it was everything we could have wanted! Private, but with all of our needs taken care of! The private breakfast was delicious. It's the little things that make the difference and they had it all covered! A very romantic place. Thank you!
