Quality Inn Downtown Inner Harbour
Ranked #34 of 47 Hotels in Victoria
Reviewed June 7, 2014

We stayed at Quality Inn, Victoria in June. The location was OK. The hotel is clean. The rooms were large, nice, and clean. The Internet connection was fast. We had to pay for parking. No breakfast was provided. The elevator was out of service on the day we left. However, the Thai lady officer helped us take the bags from the the third floor to the lobby. Thank you very much.

Super clean rooms, always saw staff cleaning, location can't be beat. Short walk to harbour, fisherman's wharf, lots of great whale watching tours nearby. Great in room, organic coffee/machine. helpful, attentive staff!

We booked all rooms through the Choice Hotels' website (the very first time) for our 10 day vacation. This hotel was by far the worst. We were assigned a room, a corner closet room, literally. When we first stepped out of the elevator, the hall way appeared to be under some kind of renovation. We found our room hidden at the far end corner. I had to try the key card several times to get the door opened. The room is incredibly small. The closet door would not open at first; once opened, it blocked the entry to the bathroom. Inside the closet, we found one luggage rack, one small fridge (yes a fridge) and on top of the fridge, a fan (yes, a fan). We had to find a spot between the TV chest and the small desk to set the luggage rack. We could not sit at the desk because there is no room to pull the chair out. We had to set the other suitcase on top of the fridge to pack and unpack. The fan had to go on the small desk top because there is where the electric outlet is (after we unplugged the desk light). The desk is also where the coffee maker is. The entire room has two more electric outlets which are in the bathroom. We had to charge our laptop and phones by taking turns (you can forget about charging the IPADs). The floor light does not work. We found two more pillows in the closet and they had some sort of medicine smell to it. Since it is a Quality Inn, I did not have very high expectation and thought it was the norm for Victoria Island hotels until the day we checked out. We were told by the manager for a small fee, they could have moved us to a bigger room (bait and switch?). The manager was not helpful and informed us pretty much this is the type of room we could expect to get since we booked through the Choice Hotel’s website. During our 10 day stays at various hotels that we booked through Choice Hotels, we had always a decent room. All stays were incident free except one (front desk called us at 2:30 AM by mistakes) but the hotel manager made good on it. Fellow travelers beware of this hotel.

The hotel was located in the heart of Victoria, you could walk to the Harbour, China Town, Empress Hotel, bus stops, Greyhound bus terminal and Parliament Buildings.
The hotel room was spacious with separate bedroom and living area with sofa and kitchen.
The only problem was there are stairs to the first floor, so you have to carry your suitcases up about 7 steps. The lady booking us in helped us with the suitcases, she was very nice and helpful. I would recommend the hotel especially for the great location. We only had to walk a block to see the Victoria Day parade on Douglas St.

Room Tip: Ask for a bedroom suite for extra room, if there are more than 2 of you, the sofa is a bed.

Dear dance1942,

Thank you for reviewing your recent stay and for pointing out our great location! It sounds like you stayed in on of our One Bedroom Suites which are located on the 1st floor.

As you mentioned, there are some stairs to negotiate in our lobby to get to the mezzanine level where the elevator and 1st floor rooms are located. Our front desk team are on hand 24 hours/day to help guests with their luggage if needed, of course.

Thank you again for your kind words. We hope to see you again!

Sincerely,

Laura Caceres

Two day stay May 28/29, 2014. Yes, it is old. Yes, it is limited with amenities. Yes, the pool & fitness room is small. Kids love pools...period...any size. The room was suitable for the needs of the three of us, including a 10 year old. We wanted central locations and this is about as central as you can get and the bang for the buck was great. With a small child, safe location is key and I can say that our central need of a safe location was met. If you want a bigger pool and fancier hotel, this won't give it to you. There is no secret as to the limitations of this hotel...manage expectations and you'll be fine.

Room Tip: Room away from the street as with no a/c an open window might be needed in warmer temps.

Dear tykofamily,

Thank you for reviewing your recent stay with us. I do remember speaking to you at check out. As we discussed, we do our best to ensure that they way we advertise our hotel is accurate - and this includes advertising our limitations. I remember that you said you had done a bit of research prior to arriving and once here, you found the hotel to be exactly as you'd expected.

I was very happy to hear that the hotel suited your family's needs and that you found your stay to be great value for money spent.

I hope we can look forward to welcoming you back on your next trip to Victoria!

Anybody who has looked around for a downtown hotel in Victoria has undoubtedly thought twice about it once seeing the rates most downtown hotels charge, especially approaching high season. We were about to seek accommodations elsewhere as well, but fortunately discovered the Quality Inn situated right downtown at a very reasonable price. We liked the location, and the price couldn't be beat, so we booked our stay.

When we arrived at the hotel the front desk staff were very personable and friendly, and got our parking and room keys sorted out without any problems. The lobby was in good shape, as was the exterior of the hotel, and everything appeared to be clean and well maintained.

As we headed to our room, there was some minor repair work going on in the hallway (the walls appeared to be getting a fresh coat of paint, and the room numbers were being re-done), but the renovations were not disruptive in any way and although the hallways had a faint paint smell, it never entered the room.

When we arrived at our room, it was surprisingly nice! Seeing as this was our first time staying at a Quality Inn, I wasn't too sure what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The room wasn't lavish, but certainly was not seedy by any stretch of the imagination. The carpeting was clean as was the wallpaper, the beds were comfortable, and there was a large flat screen television which modernized the room. The bathroom was clean and of adequate size, and all in all everything was quite comfortable. Our room was one of the few that had a balcony which overlooked a small courtyard area, which was also quite nice. I thought the value was excellent for what we received, and although the hotel was a more budget-style property, there was absolutely nothing wrong with it and it certainly lived up to its solid three star rating.

There was also a small parking garage located within the hotel which was convenient for parking our rental car each night. The garage was admittedly a little awkward to navigate due to its small size (and also our large rental car!) but we were always able to find a spot and squeeze ourselves in and out without any problems.

In conclusion, the Quality Inn is a perfect choice for anybody looking for a great location in downtown Victoria, as well as great value with excellent quality. I would certainly recommend this property to anyone looking for a comfortable stay, and wouldn't hesitate to return again in the future. Thanks for a great stay!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the third (highest) floor overlooking the courtyard. There was little to no traff...

We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite, the sofa bed was comfortable enough, the room overall clean. It was walking distance to everywhere we needed to go including shopping, bus to Butchart gardens, the Ghost tour, restaurants, even to Craigdarrock castle. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful.
