“Excellent value”
Reviewed October 31, 2012

We stayed here for 4 nights and had a standard room that came with 2 queen beds. The room was very clean and comfortable with all the amenities you could possibly need (and everything was refreshed daily). Wifi was great, cable TV was nice after a long, wet afternoon of whale-watching, and we used the sauna and pool a couple of times too. The bathroom was very tidy and there was good closet and wardrobe space for all our clothes and shoes. The gym was minimal with only a couple of machines but who goes on holiday to exercise anyway?!

We would suggest that the hotel iron the bedskirts on the beds as that would increase the tidiness aspect of the bedrooms. There is also a significant amount of noise from the traffic along Blanshard street so make sure to ask for a room that doesn't face the street if you are a sensitive sleeper.

There is a pub (alternatively called Smith's pub downstairs and the Argyle Attic upstairs) attached to the hotel which serves decent pub fare. The hotel offered us a 50% discount for one meal, which we used on a hot and hearty meal our last night. All wines were 5$ for a glass, which is very reasonable for interesting local BC wines. We invited friends to the pub later and a good time was had by all.

Room Tip: Rooms on Blanshard street may be slightly noisy so if possible get one within the building.

Dear Monilliam,

Thank you for your review of us on Tripadvisor it is always nice to see contributors like your self leave their comments.

We were happy to see you stayed with us for 4 nights and had a chance to utilize all of our amenities though some arte limited like our gym which can be considered small. I also have to agree with you there is nothing like relaxing in front of the TV after a long day especially when it’s 42 inches and has proper High Definition Programming. Our pool and sauna do get a lot of use this time of year when the weather can be less than favourable.

I have also passed on your comments to the manager at Smith’s Pub and he was thankful that you had a great time there.

Once again thank you for your comments and we hope to host you again in the future.

Sincerely
Jamie Lewis

This hotel is very centrally located. The rooms are large, have excellent beds and powerful showers. As we were travelling as part of a group, we were given connecting rooms which was wonderful: we could safely put the kids to sleep and sit in the room next door, were not forced to also go to bed early.
There is a pool onsite, which is quite small but nice for a splash. There is secure underground parking, it will cost you $9.00 per day. The restaurant is independently operated and breakfast is not included in your stay. Our rooms did come with a fridge and a microwave. We decided to have breakfast in the on-site restaurant, we used a 50% off coupon that we received upon checking in. With the kids breakfast (pancake was disappointing with just 1 pancake, waffles were great with 4 pieces as well as whipped cream) at $5.00 each, this meant it cost us $2.50 with the coupon. Fabulous!
The only reason I do not give the full rating is because on both nights we stayed, all the adults in our party were woken up on both nights by drunk/aggressive patrons spilling out of the pub below the hotel. There were arguments and fights beneath our bedroom window, the police was called to break up the disturbances. While I appreciate we stayed in downtown, I think it would be wise of management to inform travelers and price the rooms above the pub lower because of possible disturbances.
Front desk did a great job on recommending restaurants.

Dear sunseeker1062

Thank you for your review it is always good to have Senior Contributor like your self share your opinion and suggestions and we do listen.

There can be noise from the local pubs and as a rule we save those rooms that do sometimes get affected to be last to rent and we do tell people so I do apologize that you were not informed. But your idea of pricing different is one we are considering and thank you for your suggestion.

I do appreciate your very positive comments on our location, large rooms and comfortable beds we do get many similar comments from a lot of our guests but never get tired of hearing it.

All of our rooms have fridges and almost all have microwaves there are just a few that do not but we will be putting microwaves in those rooms also very soon it is convenient to have them.

Once again thank you for your comments and suggestions.

In town for a wedding my husband & I spent a wonderful week at The Quality Inn in downtown Victoria. The location of the hotel is excellent - close to the inner harbor, shops galore & numerous terrific little restaurants! Annie and Sam at the front desk were very helpful with directions and suggestions. Our room was clean & comfortable & we really appreciated the iron & ironing board in the room. All in all a perfect spot to enjoy Victoria and its many attractions!

Room Tip: Our room opened onto the inner courtyard which we really enjoyed.

Thank you for your great review here on Trip Advisor we are all very happy you had a great week here with us and our location is ideal to get here and park and get around on foot, we counted it out and we have about 50 restaurants with in 4 blocks of our location and as you mentioned no shortage of shops.

I have passed on your complements to Annie and Sam both of which were raised here in Victoria and their knowledge runs deep when it comes to Victoria.

Our room was large and immaculate, although a little dated. However, the real treat was the bed. What a great night's sleep!

The restaurant even with it's limited menu was comfortable, friendly and the food was good.

Outside is a little courtyard, reminiscent of the little European courtyards so common with many hotels I've stayed at, where we could relax and take in some sun and have a drink.

Overall, we would gladly stay again just for the location. Everything was within easy walking distance of the hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the courtyard are quieter, although by 10 pm traffic is pretty quiet.

Dear Mike L,

Thank you for taking the time to post your review on Trip Advisor and sharing your experience with the rest of the world.

We get so many complements on our new beds I am going to have to buy one myself. I am happy you mentioned the size of the room we are a small hotel with big rooms and it does reflect in the many comments we get.

I have passed your comments onto the Argyll Attic our onsite restaurant and just to let you know they change up the menu a few times a year to take advantage of the seasons and they do put a good twist on some very traditional food.

I never thought about our courtyard reminiscent of European courtyards but your right, I will often sit there and relax and we have some great plans for it for next year including possibility of a BBQ.

Once again thank you for your comments.

We stayed in the hotel for three nights and it was very convenient. Its a short walk to the harbor or Victoria old town and China Town. The room was large, the kitchenette was really useful and the beds were comfortable. It doesn't offer breakfast included and the parking spaces in the garage were a tight fit for a Honda CR-V small SUV, but otherwise it was a great place to stay while sightseeing in Victoria. The staff were very helpful and let us park in the garage the first morning even though it was too early to check-in. I will stay there again if I go back to Victoria and recommend it.

Dear David B,

Thank you for your review on Trip Advisor it is always great to get the insight of a Senior Contributor like yourself.

Our location is certainly one of the main reasons guests stay with us you can virtually park and everything is within a short walk from the hotel. We always offer the opportunity to our guests if they arrive early to park and then they are not lumbered with trying to park downtown.

We have received many compliments on our new pillow top beds I could start a side line selling them they are that popular.

Our underground parking can be a little tight at times but we also have a large overflow parking just across the street at the City Library that works well for us.

We will be more than happy to have you stay with us the next time you come to Victoria, once again thank you for your great review.

Had a great stay at the QI. There were 4 of us in a two queen room. There was plenty of space for us. We were out sightseeing the few days so not much time spent in the hotel but rooms and bed were great. Although there were metal bars sticking out the side of the bed by the window and i did cut myself on it but only a scratch.

The front desk staff were friendly and great. There's a free computer in the lobby and were able to print out documents for our trip to Seattle after this.

Didn't know it but there's a small pool in the basement and a sauna too. Ended up going for a swim both days as the gym was very small, only one bike and a treadmill.

Would stay there again in a heartbeat. Very close to everything, pubs restaurants the bc museum which is incredible is a 2 minute walk away.

Room was spotless. The only real problem was hot wet the floor gets in the bathroom and never seems to dry so have to use a few towels to soak it up.

If you want a great hotel at a cheap rate with very friendly staff then this is the place.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts of our hotel here on Trip Advisor with the rest of the world.

We are delighted that you had a great stay with us and found the room large enough and clean it is very important to all of us here that our guests are comfortable and are getting excellent value.

I always share comments from guests like you with the front desk as they do deserve a big pat on the back for all their hard work they are a wonderful bunch and I am very lucky to have them represent the hotel so well.

The pool and sauna are great ways to relax after a day out on the town and the lobby computer is very handy for printing out all the documents needed when traveling we find they do get used a lot.

Once again thank you and we hope to see you again in the future when ever you make it back to Victoria.
