“Brilliant, loved the Hotel and location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 30, 2008

My wife and I stayed here in August for 3 nights.

If you are thinking of staying here go for a room in the Erikson wing, this is really the business. Wonderful specification with a spacious balcony overlooking the japanese garden and spectacular views over the harbour.

We upgraded into this room for a couple of nights. The service from the reception staff was first class they really could not have done more we were most grateful to them in resolving a slight hitch when we arrived regarding our booking.

The hotel has a really nice restaurant and bar and the staff here again are so well trained and nothing is too much trouble.

We transferred from Vancouver with Pacific lines on the ferry. We would have loved to have flown over by float plane into the harbour. This is clearly the way to do it, might be expensive but would be so convenient.

One of the nicest hotels and rooms we have stayed in

We stayed for a couple of nights at this hotel. We reserved a "Harbour View" room through Expedia, but when we arrived we were given a room at the first floor with a tiny view of the harbor. When we asked to switch the room, the front desk immediately told us there were no other rooms available unless we upgrade with $30 more per night. We ended up doing that and were given a bigger room at 4th floor with a nice view (but still at the same North Wing). The room itself was pretty nice and the location of this hotel is great, but I cannot forgive them for giving us the worst room at first place and calling it a "Harbour View", it should have been called "Standard" with lower rate.

We had breakfast at the restaurant. The buffet was fine, but very limited options and in my opinion not worth the price. You'd be better off walking to downtown unless it's raining.

Tip: They charge $10 per night for parking. You can buy that upfront and will be charged automatically to your room. But if you arrive in the evening and plan to go out in the morning, you can just buy time using your credit card and pay less depending on when you plan to take the car out next morning and do that the next day and so forth.

We arrived for a 5 night stay. Room large with great views of harbour. However there were only 2 small bedside drawers for clothing, so we asked for more drawers. The staff did provide them, thankgoodness. However the old north wing is very tired and dirty. The furniture marked, but worse still the bedroom carpets are badly stained. Checking with other guests, their rooms were same. As the hotel invites guests to bring their dogs, couldn't work out whether the staines on bedroom carpets were beverage or Doggie Do Doos! The main lobby as you go to the lift was thick with dust on arrival & didn't change throughout our 5 night stay. The huge glass function area on the photo, is only used for weddings and private functions, so not used by touring guests. Such a shame. Staff not chatty, though we met wonderful people at eating places in Victoria, and all the staff at these places were great. If we should ever go back to Victoria, we deffinately would not stay here. Request new wing only, and that's a must. Be warned

After reading muriad reviews about this hotel, some good and some horrible the conclusion I came to was this. . .it depends on what wing you are staying in. We stayed two days in the South or Erickson wing in a king bedroom studio suite. This is the wing that has been refurbished and it met every expectation we had. I had sent an email to the hotel saying that we were staying for our first wedding anniversary and they upgraded us to a higher floor on the Erickson wing as well as left us a very nice note of congratulations in the room along with some candy. The room was clean, the bathroom clean and no mildew to note, the toilet was extra, extra quiet which was nice(now my husband wants one in our house!). The deck was large with a chair, table, and chaise lounge and a beautiful view of the harbor. I could tell by looking over at the other, non-refurbished wing why some people were not very happy with this hotel. The decks over there are indeed very small with only room for one small chair. I couldn't see much of the inside from our room, so I can't note that here.
The only thing that I want to note here, particularly for the ladies, is bring your own hairdryer. The one in the bathroom is pretty useless, small, and overheats in two seconds.
The swimming pool area was ok, the jets in the hottub were not working at the time of our stay and it looks like it needs an update.
We didn't eat in either of the restaurants during our stay simply because we were too busy walking around the town, but I did overhear some people saying that Aura was rather good.
The staff was extremely helpful and nice!! They answered all of our questions, made suggestions, and were all-around pleasant.
It may have been because we stayed mid-week, but we hardly saw any other travelers during our stay and it was very quiet. There are two different sets of elevators depending on what wing you are in. Most of the people we did see were by the elevators going to the other wing and not the south(erickson) wing. If you want to stay here, I highly suggest the Erickson Wing if at all possible.

Just back from a quick overnight in Victoria. Booked a last minute Saturday night stay at the Laurel Point. Chose Laurel Point because of its location and a good rate. We (two adults, two kids) were in the older part of the hotel. We braced ourselves for a very basic room and were pleasantly surprised by a simple, very clean, Danish modern type of room with yes, a petite balcony, but a killer view of the harbor.

Our kids would say that the pool was very small and very loud and I found the smell of the Sunday buffet in the lobby not terribly appealing but I'd stay here again in either of the wings. We've stayed at both the Grand Pacific and the Delta Ocean Point and while the pool at the Grand Pacific is great in the winter, we were all pleased with our experience at the Laurel Point.

We booked a Clipper vacation package from Seattle to Victoria, BC, after doing a little price comparing versus ala carte bookings. Puget Sound was like glass the morning we traveled. The boat was full as they had combined two sailings, but our seat mates enjoyably added to the 2-1/2 hr. trip.

Once we arrived in Victoria, it was a three minute walk on a parklike trail to Laurel Point Inn. We checked in our bags as this was mid-morning, and set out for the Provincial Museum, which is DEFINITELY not to be missed.

Our package was to include a studio suite in the new Erickson wing of the Inn. When we returned in the afternoon to check in, we were told by the most personable desk clerk...we'd been upgraded to the Honeymoon Suite....WOW!!

The top-floor (6th) suite was around 1,000 sq. feet with almost as much stone terrace accessed from both the living room and bedroom and overlooking the very busy and interesting to watch inner harbor. The evening sunset was lovely from here too.

As per reviews I read from TA, the bathroom was a marble wonder.....(we loved the huge glassed shower especially). With large windows overlooking the harbor, the large jetted spa tub was most enjoyed too.

In conclusion, we highly recommend the Inn at Laurel Point for its staff friendliness and especially for the new Erickson Wing's contemporary ambience and views. And don't miss sitting out on the hotel's lounge terrace with a glass of wine in the afternoon...very nice. This hotel will be our choice for all future Victoria adventures.

We had a decent stay at this hotel but found that it wasn't worth the price we paid. We had friends that stayed downtown at the same time and they had a nicer suite for less money. The location is nice as far as the view goes, but we were always walking to downtown which is a few blocks away so it was a bit inconvenient for us. The room was average but the air conditioner was noisy and the patio is all but useless. It's a small triangle with a single chair that takes up almost all of the patio is all there is. It's hard to believe anyone would design patios like these. The restaurant is very expensive, we didn't eat there because it was sixteen dollars just for a bacon and eggs breakfast
