Lovely experience! Watching the fireworks form the balcony of our room was delightful! Having our meal outdoors at the waterside restaurant, Aura, was a treat. Highly recommended. Being able to walk around the Inner Harbour into the action, but get easily back to our hotel for some down time was a real plus.

Room Tip: Room 415 and 419 are best for fireworks viewing.

*We stayed in the newer/fancier Erickson wing - this might have an impact on the different reviews here. I like that they give the option for a lower price room that can still access the amenities of the hotel, or the option for a bit more luxury if this is a once-every-seven-years vacation.*

We decided to have an official family vacation in our own province, and my son and husband had not been to Victoria before. Based on research through trip advisor and the reception I got when I called in person, we chose this hotel for our 4 night stay. The phone call is key - another couple hotels did not have that right feel when I called them, so off the list they go. Location was beyond excellent. We could walk everywhere: to the museum/bug zoo/petting zoo for daytime, and then we'd walk to Barb's at the Wharf for dinner and ice cream each night. One reviewer mentioned the noise of the float planes taking off and landing in the morning, but with our sliding door closed we didn't find it woke us. We had 'ocean view' rooms.

The staff was great. Aside from the one fellow who checked us out, everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. Max checked us in and gave us some good info for the city. Clay not only parked our car and helped with the bags (travel with a 5 year old for a week - we had the luggage), but he also found solutions for me when I needed a secure connection for my laptop to get some work done. Nikki helped us out with some other questions throughout our stay. Upon staff suggestions, we were very happy with the Royal BC Museum, the Noodle Box for lunch, and Barb's for dinner.

Our room was stuffy upon return one day, and they had a very nice fellow up within minutes to look at the A/C. Something had blown in the unit, so the manager had a new comparable room ready for us immediately and sent a fellow up to help move the above mentioned luggage. The housekeeper was very nice and friendly. Everyone smiled and greeted you in the hallways or elevator. The only person I dealt with who wasn't up to the same standards was the fellow who checked us out, and it may have just been that they seemed really busy at that time. Allow extra time for check out if you are needing to catch a ferry - can be stressful when wanting to get out the door!

Since we ended up staying in two rooms for our stay, I can comment that they were both wonderful. Beds were super comfy, tonnes of pillows, *beautiful* view, bathroom that even made the 5 year old comment "wow, that's pretty nice!", Aveda products, mini fridge/coffee/tea to save on breakfast foods and the odd lunch. Since we were in the luxury wing, we had a large balcony with chairs and a side table. Perfect for sitting out each evening and watching the lights on the water.

The hotel itself seemed in excellent shape. No, it isn't all brand new - but it was very well cared for in all the ways that mattered to us. We used the indoor pool multiple times a day, my husband and I both used the fitness room (tight, but had both cardio and free weights). Beautiful pond and sitting area in the back. They did have a wedding while we were there, and I imagine most weekends they do. But it was kept off to the side and we didn't notice any noise once our sliding door was closed to our room. We ate one night at the restaurant and found it to hit that nice "fine dining" vibe via the cuisine but without the snobbery. They had a kid's menu, but our son opted for calamari and sushi so I cannot comment on the kid-specific food. All three of us thought our meals were excellent. If price is an issue, eat your other nights at Barb's Fish and Chips for under $30 and save up for one dinner at the hotel. Others commented it was cheaper than the "fine dining" in town.

Yes, there is a $17 charge for parking. Space is tight, and all the downtown hotels have the same thing. You can park across the street at another parking lot for $6.50 per day.

All in all, we were so impressed with the hotel and the city that we're considering planning another vacation there again.

Dear Jenn P,

Wow! I am truly humbled by your fantastic review and thank you for your articulate, well balanced thoughts about our Inn.
You know, as an independantly owned Canadian hotel, we recognize that in order to be successful, we must set ourselves apart. How do we accomplish that? We start by offering each and every guest whom we come into contact with a warm hearted, genuine experience-from our reservations agents to our front desk staff to our housekeepers, our philosophy is "treat our guests in the manner with which we would like to be treated". It works.
So glad that you and your family enjoyed your reunion and all the Victoria has to offer. And I am glad that we impressed the 5 year old with our fabulous bathrooms!

I do hope that you will return to our beautiful Inn again one day.

Enjoy the rest of your summer.

Sincerely,

~Judy~

We stayed here 6 yrs ago and loved it, however this time we stayed we found the place run down in bad need of repairs and an upgrade!!! For the price we paid we expected a nice room with updated everything but what we got was a bed to hard to sleep on, a bathroom in serious need of some paint and update, poor Internet service! I really don't have anything good to say other than it is in a nice location. Parking is very expensive as well!

Dear acuragairn,

Firstly, I am a little taken aback by your description of our rooms and would like a moment to repond to your concerns.
You see, since you were here 6 years ago, we have spent close to 5 million dollars in rennovating and refrurbishing both our rooms and our waterfront restaurant, AURA (formerly Cook's Landing). We have 2 wings in our hotel - the super high end contemporary Erickson Wing and our more modest accomodations, the Laurel Wing. Both wings have had some extraordinary work done to them, especially the Erickson Wing, which has, in my opinion, to be the finest contemporary rooms in this city. Our Laurel wing, on the other hand, is more modest in it's appointment, but we think we offer all of the accoutrements neccesary for a wonderful stay and at a reasonable price point.
Also, pay parking is now a fact of life in all big cities and comparitively speaking, our prices in Victoria are by far not as pricey as say, Vancouver. Our daily rate at this Inn, for our secured underground parking, is amongst the least expensive. We do have a city parking lot at the top of our driveway that could be an alternative if you wish, and there's is always the chance of parking on the city streets (but one must be careful to follow those parking rules).
Now, as for the free internet we provide; as you know, if there are too many users, the service becomes unavailabe - as does any free WIFI. People now have Ipads etc and want to watch movies and more so I am sure you can understand that we are not in control of how people use this complimentary service. We do offer ethernet cables in each room however, should you wish to purchase a more reliable access to the internet services.
It is too bad that our guests do not use the free internet for brief periods of information but now try and use this service for movie watching and gaming. It is definitely a problem for us.

I do hope that this note sheds some light on our position and that you will reconsider returning to our beautiful Inn. We do have something for almost everyone's taste and pocketbook.
Please know that we are continuing with our upgrades and are always doing something to improve our offering - it is just the nature of the hotel business!

All the best,

~Judy~

We stayed for 2 nights here on our 2 week tour of the Rockies. The hotel was very clean and modern the staff very courteous . Our room was lovely & overlooked the harbour. The location was great, a 10 minute walk into Victoria or a 10 minute walk to Fishermans Walk where we had fish & chips at Barbs , definitely worth a visit.

Dear Elaine C,

So glad you enjoyed your two days here on the West Coast and that you found your way down to Barb's Fish & Chips. Isn't it great? A 10 minute walk along the waterfront and you are right down on Fisherman's Wharf eating fish and chips on the dock - with a possible seal or two watching you eat.
I hope you have taken back fond memories of your trip to Canada and especially of your time here at Victoria's most beautiful Inn.

Sincerely,

~Judy~

My daughter and I stayed here early June. We were here to meet up with some friends, shop and
do some activities and a bit of work. The parking charge totally redeemed itself by including valet service. It was great to just call down and your vehicle magically appeared. They are not the only hotel out in that area to charge for parking. Very polite service from all. The
Aveda amenities in the room were a nice touch, and how did they know that I am a Mighty Leaf
tea drinker. Two beds, comfy and clean. No gripes from us.

Dear Butler52,

Thank you so much for posting your comments. I am so glad that you mentioned the parking charges and that you found the daily rate to be fair considering that valet service is included. We have done our homework and we have compared our rates to other major hotels in Victoria's downtown area and yes, our rates are indeed quite modest.

Thanks again for your lovely comments and I do hope you have a chance to return to our lovely Inn again one day!

You can't pick a better hotel for a great location on the Victoria harbor. The rooms are very clean and up to date. Beds and linens are first class as are the furnishings. We didn't pay the extra cost for a water view because we were only there one night, but that would probably be a mistake if you plan to spend any time in the room.

The cost of self and valet parking are the same so why not use the service. Only problem we had was that there was no soap or shampoo in the room when we checked-in. It took three phone calls, but the desk clerk personally delivered it when the service from the valet broke down.

Really suggest a stroll around the harbor. It is a very short walk to a number of fine places to eat and drink.

Just wish we had stayed longer.
