This hotel was upgraded in May 2009, and exceeded all of what we expected. Manager and staff were extremely friendly and willing to assist. We had our older daughter with us, and had booked a room with 2 beds, only to discover our room actually was divided into 2 smaller rooms complete with bathrooms in both! Price was great, stayed 4 nights. Super downtown location, walking distance to just about every downtown attraction. Access by car from the airport is easy, car park was in a compound across the street and around the corner, no problem. Reminded us of a typical downtown European hotel.

A major remodel of an older hotel is totally successful. Totally modern decor, attractive lobby and beautiful common areas. The rooms are very large and feel very modern. Excellent design qualities and decor. The restaurant has original, eclectic cuisine. The quality of the food and wine list is better than is typical in Victoria. I have stayed in most of the high-end hotels in Vic and I'm now a fan of the Rialto. Only downside is no views, but the ambiance and spaciousness in the rooms is adequate compensation. Recommended and I will definitely return.

Stayed in a suite with a view of brick walls and garbage. TV in the bedroom didn't work, Hotel clerk's answer was does the one in the living room work? well!
Cleaning staff was freindly.
Old Hotel that they are trying to renovate, no A/C on some floors.
If you have a vehicle you may be able to cram it into the parking a block away.

beware!
1) the hotel is still under renovations - not all the rooms or all the floors have been renovated - ie the air conditioning is not installed on all the floors yet. Also I woke up at 7am to the sound of construction and drills one room over.
2) the staff don't know what they are doing! booking the room, checking in and service while I was here was horrible.
3) I came back to my room at 5:30pm and it had not been cleaned, towels replenished, etc. So I called the front desk to have them clean it. When I came back at 9pm it was still not done. This time when I phoned they said the cleaners would have left at 4pm, so it could not be that night. They didn't make any attempt to compensate or correct this (sending up towels, etc).

We stayed two nights at Hotel Rialto with a group of friends (6 of us total). We booked a 3-bedroom suite on level 2. We were dissapointed to find that the suite did not have a kitchenette (but it did have a small frige), no 2nd bath, the "master bedroom" was not priviate, no breakfast, no room service, main resturant is not always open. The master bedroom is the main room as you walk in, the bath and other two bedrooms are off the master bedroom. Works better for a large family. Other than that our stay was great, the hotel is in a perfect location.. resturants, shopping, the wharf all within walking distance.
Parking is kiddy corner to the hotel & costs $10 a day.
We highly recommend renting mopeds - great way to see most of victoria and dallas street (along the coast) is an amazing scenic drive.
Our favorite place for breakfeast was John's just down the street on douglas and for dinner we were really impressed by Fiamo Italian Kitchen (yates street), make reservations in advance for both. they are very popular.
The staff was great, Bryan was very helpful and kind, and we were permitted to check out 1hr late.
