“Beautiful, Great, Aged like a fine wine.”

Its a historic landmark, and the architecture is of a another era. I have stayed here twice. All the rooms are different, well appointed, comfortable clean accomodations. Even though the B&B is older, the plumbing works fine, windows open and it looks well taken care of. The rooms are spacious and all have a view.
The room I stayed in was on the top floor, the 3rd floor (no elevator), walk up to the room was fine, but the reward was the view. The bathroom was huge, almost as large as the bedroom, plus the bedroom had a balcony over looking the ocean.
Steve, the owner, was gracious as ever, even though he was catering to a full house breakfasts. Each day a different and delicious breakfast served suprisingly fast considering the number of people being served.
The Dashwood Manor has feel history and a long life . . . I loved it. (Pictures attached)

House smelled bad, uncomfortable beds, no shower and tub/shower fixture that did not work.
Breakfast beautifully presented but only bread no protein.
One plus, owner knew his area well to guide you to the sights worth seeing!

We appreciate hearing about concerns our guests have. It’s especially helpful if we can discuss the concern directly during the stay. We are puzzled by the comment about breakfast. In our ten years of operating bed and breakfasts, we have built an excellent reputation for the variety and quality of our meals. We have never served only bread without protein. Each breakfast consists of three or four courses, and it always includes fruit and an item with protein. The menu changes daily, alternating between savoury and sweet dishes. Perhaps this guest had our Cranberry Bread Souffle, which has two eggs in each serving.

All guest rooms have a tub and shower. Two of the 12 rooms have hand showers in the tubs. All are in good working order. When we find or hear from a guest that there’s a problem with a fixture or appliance in the house we do our best to rectify the situation immediately. We do not recall hearing a complaint about a shower or tub over the time this reviewer stayed with us.

Almost all the guest beds are new since 2004. Most are either premium quality, pocket coil beds or comparable quality. We get many positive comments from our guests on the comfort they experience.

My husband and I stayed at Dashwood Manor in Victoria, Canada on June 12 & 13, 2005. We chose it because of it's location overlooking the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the Olympic Mountains in the distance. Dashwood Manor is beautiful! We chose a third floor room for the view and it was everything we hoped for. The new owners just bought it a year ago and are doing a lot of work. They are remodeling the rooms and replacing old mattresses with high quality ones. Our bed was VERY comfortable and the bedding was luxurious. Everything was very clean, which is something I always notice. The breakfasts were delicious both mornings. The dining room is very nice and has a couple of nice big windows overlooking the park and water across the street. Lots of people walk out there, some with dogs (it's a dog park) and many without. Don't let the idea of loose dogs bother you. I was amazed at how well the dogs behaved. They are obviously used to staying with their owners. They don't bother you but if you love dogs (like I do) you can ask to pet some of them.

We didn't have a car so I was worried that we had chosen a spot too far from the things we would want to see and do. Well, I worried needlessly. There were lots of different ways to walk to the Inner Harbor (and none took very long.) There was a walking path along the water that took us to a cafe on the water for dinner the first night (beautiful view the whole way) and that path continued on to the Inner Harbor. Beacon Hill Park was across Cook Street (a small street) from Dashwood Manor. It was a nice place to walk. Beautiful ponds, benches, ducks, etc. One morning we walked up Cook Street to some shops. Pretty houses and gardens lined the streets. We passed a lawn bowling club and stopped to watch some men having a competition. Several of them spoke to us and invited us to come into the fenced area and have a seat to watch. They explained how to play. The Cook Street Village Shops were interesting and the Pub had good food. One afternoon we sat on a log on the beach down below Dashwood Manor and watched 10 or 12 wind surfers for quite a while.

We were so glad we stayed at Dashwood Manor. If we had stayed at a place close to the Inner Harbor, I doubt that we would have gotten out to the beautiful areas around Dashwood Manor. I'm sure we would have enjoyed ourselves but we would have missed a lot!

I hope we get back out to Victoria again and, if we do, we will definitely stay at Dashwood Manor!

If you looking for a unique bed and breakfast this is the spot. The Manor is very clean, centrally located and is close to the beach for walking. The rooms were a fair size considering the Manor was built in the early 1900's and were decorated as you would expect from the early 1900's. New owners recently purchased the manor so they have upgraded the beds and linens and re-painted the rooms in the Manor. The breakfast was outstanding. The manor is definetly different than staying at a hotel; it is a unique experience if you are looking for one.

We've never stayed anywhere quite like Dashwood Manor. It's an old, huge house in a great location -- across the street from a dog-lovers park on the water -- and the place has a lot of character. We stayed on the third floor with our own little balcony, and it was incredibly quiet. There were a few disappointments, however. First, our bed was terribly uncomfortable, and the separate, huge bathroom had a hand-held shower in a tub without a shower curtain. In addition, we thought the B&B had a wine & cheese evening social hour but were mistaken. But the breakfasts were delicious and innovative, the dining room is great with a big picture window, and the new owners, who are slowly renovating the place, as we understand it, are nothing but gracious and more than happy to give you advice on things to do in Victoria and the surrounding areas. The location is the best -- only a few miles from downtown Victoria in a quiet residential neighborhood. So all in all, we would probably stay there again, depending on the price, only IF we could request a different room that had been renovated and had a more comfortable bed.

My family stayed at Dashwood Manor in August 2004 for three nights. To begin with, the building is a classic heritage house overlooking the straights with the Cascades in the background. It is a beautiful solid elegant building - in short, a place you'd like to stay. The rooms are huge and comfortable. The new owners are fantastic - kind, friendly, long-timers on Vancouver Island with lots of good advice to match the patience and availability that allows them to authentically assist their guests. Kudos! I found some of the furnishings to be on the funky side but these are being replaced, room-by-room, as the new owners (assisted by a designer) are removing tacky and replacing with nice. There is no air conditioning and the house, though set back, lies at a major intersection along the beach road. We did have some street noise but otherwise, had an excellent stay.

I stayed in the Windsor Oak suite in Dashwood Manor from November 13-15. I was traveling with my boyfriend and dog (Dashwood Manor accepts pets in two of their rooms for a $25 per stay fee) for a weekend getaway. We had made arrangements to arrive after the reception desk closed on a Thursday night and arrived to a room that had been decorated with balloons and a welcoming card. (I had mentioned to the staff that the intent of the weekend was to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday.)The manor is unique in that the breakfast is self-catered. The suites have kitchens and the staff stocks them with eggs, ham, cheese, fruit, juice, milk, cereal, coffee, tea, cider, butter and jams. This was perfect for us, since part of the weekend plan was to sleep late and relax. We were able to eat our breakfast at the hour of our choosing. There is a wine and cheese hour in the evenings. We participated on Saturday night and were the only guests in the lounge. The Manor has off-street parking, something that not all B&B's are able to provide. Our suite was large (approx 25' x 45' not including kitchen or bath) and wood paneled. I thought it was lovely. The suite had great water pressure and after filling the Jacuzzi tub, there was still plenty of hot water left. At first I thought it was a little strange that the Jacuzzi was in the corner of the main room instead of being located in the bathroom (where a standard tub/shower combo was located), but after enjoying a soak in front of the fire I decided that I liked the tub location. We had a large fireplace and the wood that was supplied was so dry, that I had no trouble starting a blazing fire. The draperies were hotel quality and blocked out all light. We heard very little noise from other guests. We were very happy with the location of the Manor. It is separated from the beach by a street and a park (where dogs were allowed off-leash - perfect for us) and in a neighborhood where we found it interesting to walk around and look at the other houses. It was about a 25 minute walk to the Empress, which might be a little far for some people. We took a number of different routes to walk downtown and always found the walks to be enjoyable.Overall, I was very happy with the choice and would recommend the Manor, especially to those who would like to travel with their dogs. The only disappointments were that the bedspread was a little faded (and reminded me of a floral dress I had in the late 80s) and that the time of the wine and cheese hour was not advertised so no one showed up. It would have been nice to meet some other guests or to have had the innkeepers join us for some conversation. A 3 nights for the price of 2 special was running and with the Canadian to US exchange rate, our room turned out to be about $75 US a night. This was a low season rate and a good deal.
