Dashwood Manor was a wonderful home base in Victoria. The room and bed were very comfortable, the breakfasts delightful and the proximity to everything was very convenient. We opted not to rent a car and walked almost everywhere. I recommend comfortable walking shoes if you are going to go that route, but we easily walked to and from downtown daily. We took a cab to and from the ferry with our bags, and took a cab to the White Heather Tea Room, but the weather and surrounding areas make walking a preferable mode of transportation. Dave and Sharon were warm hosts and made things easy on us with recommendations and helped make reservations. My husband with severe allergies remarked how dust free their lovely Heritage Home was - very clean!

This was our second trip to Victoria in 16 years. Our B&B of 16 years ago was no longer an option, so we were at a loss, until we found Dashwood Manor. Couldn't have picked a better locale - right across from the dog park, right across from the sea, right across from the Olympics, right across from Becon Hill Park, just down the street from Cook Street Village, and a short walk to downtown Victoria. Our hosts couldn't have been nicer. All of their suggestions were well received and appreciated (whale watching tours, time and tickets to Butchart Gardens, restaurant suggestions, etc.) The delicious, varied breakfast was a guarantee for us to return from our morning walks at a brisk pace. We felt as if we were on a honeymoon (37 years after the fact.)

Excellent food, warm comfortable room, the owner is extremely knowledgable on the Island. Breakfast room is gorgeous...The Manor is walking distance to everything, and the tour buses run right by! Very organized and all the owner's hard work is noticed and has paid off..

Perfect spot for our family reunion. Dave and Sharon were the perfect hosts. Their suggestions from what to do, where to eat and how to relax made our trip more enjoyable. Every breakfast was yummy and great beginning to the day! Would definitely return.

Room Tip: Suggest upper floor with water view. Very scenic overlooking the US.

As a global business and leisure traveler, from major chains and boutique hotels to very modest hotels in Europe; Dashwood is always our first choice in Victoria, BC. We know we can count on spectacular views of the water and mountains just across the street, perfect for morning and evening walks or runs, beautiful park across the road and the downtown is definitely walk able.

We’ve stayed in many of the rooms over the years, from a small room overlooking the parking lot to the larger suites with incredible views from every window. The innkeepers are genuine and welcoming, striving to ensure all guests feel like a home away from home, knowledgeable about many of the unknown gems around the island and the wonderful aromas from the kitchen are great to wake up to.

Each room has its own charm. We've always been pleased with the rooms we've selected and their comfort from some the modest to the suites, it’s all about deciding what’s most important to you and your budget before booking. Dashwood is very competitively priced with a range of unique rooms from modest to more luxurious suites. This year we spent two weeks in the Chelsea suite, it was AMAZING, the bright room, spacious, views from the windows all around and incredible bathroom, tub etc., luxury all around, it gets harder to leave everytime we visit. Thank you Dave and Sharon!!

One of the most welcoming things about Dashwood is the people we've met from around the world, from young newlyweds to healthy and active seniors, enjoying their children’s inheritance, travelling the country on their motorcycles, all respecting the comfort of others as much as possible, even when coming in later in the evening. We’ve always managed to stay cool, even this summer by keeping the windows closed and blinds drawn during the day so no AC is a non-issue.

While we always do our homework, we take guests comments on trip advisor with a grain of salt as too many times we’ve seen a number of fantastic hotels and inns such as Dashwood ranked unfavorable because another guest was inconsiderate or they didn’t like the location or lack of a particular amenity, etc. Nowadays, travelers must do their homework when booking a getaway or extended stay if there are key things that are “must” for you. With so many options available, you need to be an informed consumer reviewing online pictures, ask specific questions of your hosts before booking to avoid disappointment in the location, room size, amenities, etc. and not take out those disappointments on the hosts.

Room Tip: Each room has it's own charm and different options, locations, views, bed, bathroom, sitting are...

Dashwood Manor is a 100 year old house, so not sure what I was expecting, but certainly not the guests up above coming home at 11:30pm on motorcycles and then taking a shower only to be woken up by the water running! It was a very hot weekend and w/o fans, unbearable in our very small room overlooking the parking lot and a peek a boo view of the ocean. I would recommend this for a fall or winter getaway-not summer time. It was very uncomfortable. The best part was having a couple's massage by two wonderful massage therapists from Sooke. They were amazing and spent an hour and a half from head to toe. They do 30 mins of reflexology on our feet....awesome! Breakfasts were fine and filling. The innkeeper, David was most helpful with activities and events that were happening. Just too bad that the house isn't comfortable in the heat and that the plumbing has to be very loud!

Room Tip: I would look at the website carefully and look to the southern most rooms with a view of the ocean...

Dave L, Owner at Dashwood Manor Seaside Bed and Breakfast Inn, responded to this review, August 20, 2012
We are sorry to hear of the problems this guest had while staying with us. We can appreciate how annoying it would have been having the guests arrive late and hear the motorcycles running and then have the sound of running water afterwards. We know what it’s like to have sleep disturbed. As much as we sympathize, the guest did not mention this to us the next morning, nor did we hear about this from other guests. As well, this guest stayed in our Fairfield Room which is on the second floor, so we do wonder if the guest is particularly susceptible to sounds that others may not be disturbed by. Besides, this is a relatively quiet neighbourhood, and we do not often have guests return late at night, particularly on motorcycles. Does this isolated incident mean that our accommodations are generally noisy and should not be recommended? No so.

Our in-room massage providers from Spiral Essence do an amazing job, and we get great response from other guests as well. This couple had a couple’s massage done simultaneously by two providers in the Fairfield Room. Although it is one of our smaller rooms, it is spacious enough to accommodate a queen sized bed, two armchairs, tables, a dresser and then have two massage tables and therapists working. This is not a “very small room” as the guest complains.

It was a warm weekend. The ocean breezes generally keep the house very comfortable except when it unusually hot with no breeze at all – a very rare situation. We have portable fans for occasions like this. To correct what this guest says, two fans were given to the massage providers the morning they arrived for the massages plus the room has a large opening window. The fans were still in the room when the guests checked out.

Finally, I take exception to the guest’s description of the view as a “peak a boo view”. The room has a large picture window looking east to the ocean and distant Olympic Mountain Range. Although it is not our best ocean view compared to rooms that face directly out and have a 180 degree view, this room’s view takes in 100 degrees. Since we are across the street from the ocean, the view is wonderful.
