“Excellent Hotel, Best Location with friendly, helpful Staff. Great food and view”
Reviewed July 26, 2009

Had a 3 day get away with 4 longtime friends. We loved the Chateau. The location was the best around as we were within a couple blocks of everything downtown and the main attractions on the inner harbor. The Chateau is just behind the Empress and Marriott. The staff was always friendly, cheerful and very helpful. They were very knowledgable and told us exactly which buses to take to get to the gardens and castle. They drew maps to everywhere else we wanted to go. The rooms were very nice and comfortable for 5. We had a queen one bedroom suite which easily slept 5 .We had a seperate sitting room with very nice sofa bed ,chair, desk, window, closet and mirror. We had two TVs, two sinks, frig, lots of mirrors(important for 5 women) stand up airconditioner which was quiet and worked well. The temp was in the 80's and the conditioner worked well. We had a small balcony with a nice view of the harbor. The food in Vista 18 was wonderful and everything was fresh and homemade. We especially enjoyed breakfast. The view was the best in town. The lounge downstairs was also nice and friendly with good food. The room was ready when we arrrived at 9:30am and they staff locked up our luggage till we left on the 3rd day at 6:00pm. The van driver was at the dock to pick us up within minutes of arrival and returned us to the Victoria Express when we left. The drivers were very friendly and shared about Victoria when we arrived. I would highly recommend the Chateau for anyone wanting to be downtown in a very nice, friendly and clean hotel. I will definately return to the Chateau with my husband. The cost for a suite that would sleep 5 was $200. Most hotels we would have had to book 2 rooms for a total higher price. I would also recommend high tea at the gardens. What a setting we had at the garden and it was half the price of the Empress. The only thing not a positive would be the morning downtown traffic noise which would apply at any downtown hotels.

Stayed for four nights. Room very clean with air conditioning, iron board and iron , hair dryer. Facilities excellent, pool very good but 5ft at shallow end and 9ft deep. Not too good for young children but very good for adults. Very good location , close to Inner harbour within walking distance of everything. Staff very helpful and friendly. Take local bus to such places as Buchart Gardens as cost less than bus trip. Meals in hotel quite reasonable. Also internet service was free but users only allowed 15 mins at a time which is fine. All in all a memorable stay in such a lovely hotel with very helpful and friendly staff.

Our family of four had a special guest, a first-time visitor to Canada, and this was our first time to encounter the need for two rooms to meet fire codes. After reading reviews on TripAdvisor and shopping around, Chateau Victoria was the first to suggest a suite, and sweet it was! For a rate comparable to two rooms at other accommodations, we had a beautiful, immaculate, two-bedroom two-bath penthouse suite, with a complete kitchen, and a rooftop deck that wrapped around a quarter of the hotel! We felt like rock stars! Our college-aged children asked if we could cancel our plans for the evening and just enjoy the amenities of the room (expansive 180 degree view of downtown and the harbor, big screen, jacuzzi tub). With the convenient location. we had time to walk along the waterfront to dinner at Red Fish/Blue Fish, visit the amazing museum, and return to relax together in our spacious room, too. The friendly and helpful staff thought of everything - robes in the big walk-in closet, kitchen provisions, etc. plus free parking, internet and local calls. The only thing missing was the noise of the rowdy street and early morning float planes I've unfortunately come to associate with visits to Victoria. We feel blessed to have found this gem and we'll be back!

This is the very first time I have every experienced outstanding service from top to bottom in a hotel! From check in to check out! We arrived late on our first night and the front desk staff was so helpful in finding us a place to eat with the children so late at night. The next morning as we where leaving for the day to walk around victoria, our chambermaid made the point of saying goodmorning, is there anything I can get for you, have a great day! and even took the time to talk to the kids! She was funny and pleasant!
We had cocktails in the lounge! Outstanding service and friendly! My husband and I wanted to have a cocktail, but we had the kids, Upstairs in the Vista 18 Dining Room, even thou they where closing for lunch they let us and our kids sit there for cocktails! Again the service and friendly staff where excellent!
Our Room was fantastic! so comfortable and clean!
We used the pool and it was nice to actually be in a pool that was more than 4 feet deep!
If you are looking for a hotel that has a little bit of everything, walking distance to everything and friendly outgoing staff! This is the place!
We will be staying here everytime we go to Victoria!
The food in the Vista dining room was excellent! They even accomadated the children! and yes there is a childrens menu! The View was spectacular day and night !
Thank you to all the staff ! You made our mini vacation a wonderful experience ! See you in the Fall!

The only redeeming qualities abut this hotel is it's location and I would even say that it was clean as well.

1. Room Service: The lady taking the calls sounded like she could care less about you. We preordered breakfast the night before to be delivered at 9:30. At 10:00 I called down to see where it was and got that age old excuse "there's a traffic jam in the kitchen". It was the weekend, so things like that are to be expected, but I would also expect that if you pre-order the night before, somehow our order should be put in line at the appropriate time (especially since checkout time is 11 AM). When our order did finally make it up, our $15 pancakes were not even cooked through (they were white and maybe half a step up from batter in the middle). I fed the kids and myself the pancakes (my fiance's scrambled eggs were also runny) since we were starving and I had no faith that if I called down for another order that we would ever eat. After we were down (we ate the equivalent of about 3 our of the 5 pancakes) I called down to let them now that I was not impressed. I again got the excuse "we're so busy" from the lady who didn't seem to care at all about the guests. I informed her that being busy may be an excuse for things being behind but it was NOT an excuse for bad and undercooked food. Any chef/waitress can see that what they are pulling off the griddle is far from acceptable when it is not done all the way.
One more piece of info. on room service: The menu is pretty small and there are no kids options. So, if you want to feed your kids some eggs and toast in the morning, or pancakes, be ready to spend $15-$17 a plate and pay more if you actually want some milk or orange juice as well.

The room itself: The room (we got a 1 BR suite) was nice and clean, but not what we expected fromt the pictures. There is NO A/C, however, they did put a standup unit in the bedroom which made that room feel good, but the rest of the suite was hot. They have an outdoor balcony, but if you have kids, you don't want to leave that door open. There are no views, you are just looking at the tops and backs of buildings. I think the standup AC was overloading the electrical circuits because the power kept flipping off. I flipped the breaker in the room about 4 times in our one night stay.

The rest of the hotel: The POOL DOES NOT HAVE A SHALLOW END. We went down there with our two kids and found that the shallowest part of the pool is 5 ft. Not good for a 2 and 5-year old.

In short DO NOT STAY HERE WITH KIDS AND FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE FOR $200+ per night.

Having just stayed at the Chateau for the weekend I found the professionalism of the staff and rooms to be highly regarded. There is no doubt that the stay at the Chateau made for a very memorable visit to Victoria. Furthermore Vista 18 and the new lounge made it easy to rest within the Chateau at the end of the day! Throughly enjoyed my vacation at the Chateau!
