Value is the big draw here, plus the uniformly excellent staff and great location on Johnson Street with its cool, nearby boutiques. Most space for the money in Victoria's Downtown area. Functional décor is clean and comfortable. We were content for 4 nights here. Family and budget-friendly. I'd stay there again.

Location: Harbor area is a quick walk; 7-11 is on the corner, bank, drugstore, post office and Victoria’s tiny Chinatown are 1-2 blocks. No view, and not Johnson St.’s prettiest block, but SO convenient to everything.

Bathroom: tiny but immaculate, the tub was literally shining. There was almost no room by sink for toiletries, but the lighting was great. Shampoo, conditioner and body wash come from a wall dispenser. No lotion.

Room size: Our Jr. Suite held 2 comfortable double beds, a pullout Queen sofa bed and a rollaway twin, in addition to the useful little kitchenette. It was a little cozy, but made buying an extra room for my huge teenagers unnecessary. Plenty of comfy pillows.

Staff: At check-in Lina escorted us to our room to make sure it was perfect, gave us excellent restaurant recommendations and directions, and cheerfully answered all questions. Thanks, Lina, you rock! Housekeeping sometimes arrived in late afternoon, but were thorough.

Noise: our room, 408, faced the street and trucks were sometimes heard thundering down the road. However, despite the vending and ice machines a few steps down the hallway, there was virtually no noise from inside the hotel itself. Vending & ice machines also on 6th floor.

Dining we enjoyed:
Pagliacci's – GREAT pasta dinner! On Broad St.
Mo:Le – creative breakfasts & lunch – 1.5 blocks away on Pandora
Serous Coffee – yes, it is!
Willy’s – For breakfast, on Johnson St.
Swan’s – for tasting flights of microbrews & good food

Hello, thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. We're so glad you enjoyed your vacation. Both clean and comfortable, our rooms are convenient and close by to everything downtown has to offer. The suite that the guest mentioned is our Studio Suite with 2 Double Beds and is available for only $20 more than our Traditional room with 2 Double beds or our Traditional room with 1 Queen bed. As we are in the heart of downtown there are many great restaurants and attractions within a very short walking distance from our front doors. Stop by the Front Desk on your way out and our wonderful staff will have you off in the right direction to whatever might interest you around this beautiful city of ours.

We always stay at the Best Western Carlton Plaza and have always had a great experience. But, this time, the beds were uncomfortable and the room seemed cramped and tiny for the two of us. We will stay again, but the three days there were not what we were expecting

We're so sorry that your stay was not a comfortable one! Unfortunately different guests prefer a different firmness in their mattresses, and most of our guests find our beds quite comfortable. As always, if there is anything our staff can do throughout your stay to make it more like home, please let us know. We do our best to accommodate requests, and make each guests stay as enjoyable as possible.

I will start by saying that the staff was very helpful and the location of the hotel is superb. You are a quick walk from the water and there are a lot of great restaurants and shops nearby. The room we had was very small with a view of some serious ugliness out the back of the hotel. After reading all the glowing reviews here I guess we expected a better facility. Again, the service was great, location great... the hotel itself is nothing special.

Hello and thank you for reviewing our hotel. We're glad that staff and location were bright spots in your stay, and sorry that you didn't find the building itself to your liking. While we love our downtown location for its convenience: this does mean that unfortunately our views are completely Urban and not ocean. While we do our best to accommodate view and room room requests, we work with what we've got! We do try and update furnishings and finishings to keep the rooms fresh, but due to the age of the building, certain rooms are smaller than others. We encourage guests to book directly with the hotel so we can place you a room best suited to your needs. Thank you again for the review, we would love to see you again on your next visit to Victoria.

Our first trip to BC. We intended to stay B+B but couldn't find one with easy access to downtown. Spent a little more than budget to get a Clipper package but are very happy we did. Easy walking to everywhere and a very pleasant staff. Top notch hotel.

I can't recall being in a place where people in the street, stores, and restaurants were so NICE.

Also if you enjoy gardens and are intending to see Butchart, it is magnificent but get there early in the day. Public bus from downtown is 2.25 and a bus day pass is 5.00. Certainly also see Azbeckhe(sp) and Hatley Garden.

Room Tip: All rooms are good.

Hello, we're so glad you enjoyed your trip to Victoria and hope you come back to visit again soon. The city transit system is incredibly easy to navigate, and we're more than happy to help point all out guests in the right direction at the front desk, before you set off on your adventure. (Point of clarification, the bus costs $2.50 Canadian per person- with kids under five riding free. The bus only takes exact change, and will not accept American Dollars) Butchart Gardens is a beautiful place to visit; we're lucky to live in such a green paradise! One of my other favourite gardens to visit is a free one: the Government House, which is the official residence of the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia. It's open to the public and is beautiful to wander.

Perfect place for a grandmother plus a family of four. Good location, short walk to harbor. We had two rooms, sleeper sofa, 2 queens, plus a kitchen. The rooms were very comfortable. The staff is very pleasant and helpful. I highly recommend this hotel.
