John Lewis House B&B

My boyfriend and I had planned a trip to Victoria, BC back in August. We had originally booked a stay at Oceans Island Inn Garden Suites although when we arrived and attempted to check in, we were told that the hotel overbooked us and had called all over town to try to find us accommodation on what is considerably the busiest weekend of the entire year -- Victoria Symphony Splash takes place this weekend. Luckily, the John Lewis House had a cancellation and we were put up in this lovely B&B for a night. Bob and Becky were such welcoming hosts, we immediately felt very at home. Their house is immaculate and beautiful. We had a lovely room, private bathroom and woke up the next day to a delicious breakfast spread, complete with homemade banana muffins (which they packaged up for us to go!). Bob was extremely knowledgeable about Victoria and happily answered our many questions about where to eat and what to see. All in all, we were ecstatic with the service we received at the John Lewis House. So much so that we did not want to leave to stay our 2nd night in the Oceans Island Garden Suites, as our original itinerary called for. The location was superb -- walking distance to downtown Victoria and situated on a beautiful quaint street close to the water. I recommend this B&B to any couple (young or old -- we are 25) or family looking for genuine service with a smile. We could not have asked for a better stay or better hosts. Bob and Becky most certainly made our stay in Victoria that much more memorable.

We (my parents) recently stayed at John Lewis House B&B in Victoria, BC for five days.

This is a lovely Heritage House, convenient to downtown and the ocean.

We had a very clean and comfortable bedroom and private bath. Also there is a nice sitting room for guests to read or watch television.

Excellent breakfast was provided with homemade granola, yogurts & fresh fruit, juices, homemade jams, toast and muffins. Every day, we were treated to a delicious hot dish prepared by Becky.

Bob & Becky are excellent hosts. They gave us good advice on interesting places to visit, along with directions and maps.

We highly recommend John Lewis House B&B as your home away from home.

After all the enthusiastic comments on Trip Advisor we arrived with very high expectations indeed at the John Lewis House. – But Becky and Bob managed to surpass even that! Looking back, the 2 nights in Victoria were the best of our 3 weeks with 11 accommodations in Canada. We stayed in a lot of lovely places, but I guess it was Becky and Bob who made all the difference.

I really don’t know where to start with all my praise… I will try to structure it.

Location:
The B&B is located in a quiet neighbourhood where people show that they are real Victorians – every front garden is ablaze with flowers. The only thing which disturbs the tranquillity are flocks of sea gulls which are unfortunately a protected species. (Sometimes at night I wished you could use more than Bob’s water pistol to get rid of them… just kidding.)
There was ample of street parking available but we were allowed to use the driveway which was very convenient.
Beacon Hill Park and the sea are close by (~2 min walk). It is 10-15 min walk to Inner Harbour, the touristic centre of Victoria.

The B&B itself:
The house is quite old with small, atmospheric rooms but in perfect condition, well cared for and lovingly decorated.
The 2 bedrooms are located on the upper floor. They are quite small but perfectly adequate and above all spotless. The plate with some fruits and chocolate bars to nibble from was a very nice touch.
The bathrooms are private, but not en suite (the bathroom door is off the hallway just adjacent to the bedroom doors).

Breakfast:
Full breakfast was a joy with home-made granola, home-made muffins, home-made jam, home-made this and that, yummy fruits with different types of yogurt, a hearty dish (like amazing French Toast or stuffed pancakes), juices etc. Every day we got a care package with the best freshly baked muffins of all Canada.

The hosts:
Becky and Bob went out of their way to assist us in any possible way and did much, much more than an average host would have (and if you never been to Canada, mark that Canadians are probably the friendliest and politest people on earth and take hospitality VERY seriously). I guess the small anecdote that Becky and Bob let the guests choose their own key codes for the main door and have to remember new key codes every day themselves instead of giving key codes to the guest as it is done in other B&Bs tells a lot about their attitude.
They really had wonderful advice what to do and see in Victoria and I cannot mention often enough how outstanding their support was.
We had so many nice and animated chats and discussions that we nearly forgot that it was the city that we wanted to explore and not its inhabitants… We will never forget this brilliant stay. Thanks for everything!

Really, really nothing to complain about? Okay, the bed was too soft for my liking. And the shower was situated beneath the pitched roof area (which was no hardship for me but could be uncomfortable for taller men). But these are really trifles and would never ever prevent me from staying there a second time!

We stayed at the John Lewis House B&B for one night in August 2012. We arrived too early from the ferry to check-in, but the owners, Becky and Bob, let us leave our car in their driveway and our luggage inside the house so that we could explore the city without worrying about parking.
John Lewis House is conveniently located just a few blocks from the city centre, but in order to get there we took a longer walk along the seashore suggested by Bob. Bob also provided useful information about places worth checking out as well as some nice pubs and restaurants for dinner, most of which brew their own beer.
The B&B itself is an old, historic house with charming atmosphere. The bedroom is fairly small but clean and cozy, with a comfy bed and a wardrobe. 100% cotton bathrobes were definitely a nice surprise, in addition to fresh fruit and some chocolate bars to snack on. There was also wireless internet included in the price. If you are planning to stay a little longer, you can use a mini fridge and a microwave downstairs in the dining room. You can also relax after a day of sightseeing in the living room, in which you can find many maps, leaflets, and books describing Victoria and Vancouver Island.
In the morning we had a hearty breakfast. Everything – from home-made granola to fruit salads to home-made jams and marmalades – was fresh and mouth-watering. The bacon served was probably the best we have ever had.
Last but not least, our stay was also enjoyable thanks to the hosts, whose sense of humour and friendly advice made us feel at home. We recommend this B&B to anyone visiting Victoria!

The John Lewis House truly lived up to all the positive reviews. We stayed for two nights and wished we'd had more time. The rooms were spotless and very cosy, while the bathrooms are just outside the rooms, they are completely private. The breakfasts were amazing and Becky and Bob were the perfect hosts, very informative and extremely friendly. Victoria is a charming town and the John Lewis House is very well located for either a quick 10 minute walk to town or a more scenic walk around the shoreline to Fisherman's Wharf, a quick ferry ride over the bay on the cutest ferries, then a short stroll across the bridge to downtown. We thoroughly recommend this gorgeous B&B.....thanks Becky and Bob.

Stayed for 2 nights in this excellent accommodation. Becky and Bob are lovely hosts, so helpful and informative. Bedrooms are quite small but perfectly adequate, as is the private bathroom to each room. The breakfasts are awesome! Location is good, only a 15 min walk to the inner harbour. Would recommend to anyone on a short stay in Victotia.
