“Great Experience”

We thought we would do a quick run through of this museum today - our plan was to be and out and sitting for lunch within an hour. Didn't happen!! We spent over two hours absolutely engrossed with the displays and information. We learned so much that we headed over to Munroe's bookstore to further pursue our education. Something for everyone. And the staff were just wonderful. We were welcomed, informed and encouraged to return again and we will. We actually bought an annual membership (good buy) as we want to spend another wonderful afternoon in this great space.

“Don't miss it!”

We went with friends who live on the water in a floating home and are history buffs and we are interested in all things nautical so we are an easy sale, but our expecatations were exceeded. It is in a lovely old building and the exhibits are well documented and very interesting. In most cases it was done in a playful fun way to hold the interest of most anyone. The minatures were amazing. The courtroom at the top of the building was a special treat!

“Are you a nautical buff?”

If you like the ocean life, this is the museum for you. It is set up in a very traditional style with tons of information. Be prepared to spend half a day with lots of reading. The most interesting part is the historic building's cage elevator, which you can take a ride in.

“See History”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 9, 2013

We were in the Empress hotel, when we saw a replica of an old sailing vessel, and found out that there was a maritime museum just up the street. So we decided to take it in, (this is the very first maritime museum I've ever been to and it was well worth it).
They have the old courthouse elevator there,(the bird cage elevator) including the remains of an old historical courtroom. , You can see an early 1900's canoe/ sailing vessel that sailed around the world, (the Tilikum). As well as many ship models, pic., seaman's kit, diving equipment, cannons, old luggage used in traveling by steamers. The list goes on.
You will be surprised at what you can see around the next corner...

This place is amazing and it is worth the visit and the time. The location is also spectacular. Learn about the building as well and visit the court room. Knowledgeable and passionate staff.
